Only 4 scenario!

By Mindstorm, in Mansions of Madness

I really love the game!! The only critic I have about the game is why there is only 4 scenarios with the base game? Why only one short scenario? Are we expecting an update of the app to add new scenarios? A map editor would be very awesome!!! Any info about new scenarios comming soon?

What we know:
Two different figure-and-tile-collections are coming to stores soon. They make up for the expansions that came for the 1st edition.
Each of these tilesets comes with a new scenario, and they also add content to the current scenarios.

Note that if you have the first edition components you will not need those two expansions. The additional 2 scenarios will be available with an update.

@Neosmagus: I'm faaaaairly certain that one of the new expansions covers all of the 1st ed base game components, and the other covers the 1st ed expansions.

Yup, by first edition components I meant including the first edition expansions. As you said, the two new expansions are one for the 1st ed core game and one for the two expansion of the 1st edition.

Since I missed out on 1st edition, I'm really eager for them to be released so I can see the alternative maps and the two new scenarios :D

Agreed!

I'm going to be highly optimistic about the direction of this game and future content. With the news that FFG will no longer have the license for GW's IP next year, that gives me great hope that FFG will really focus on the rest of their properties. We know Star Wars is their cash cow, but those games are already supported heavily. I'm very hopeful that going forward, the Arkham IP will get a lot of new quality content.

Just an FYI, the Recurring Nightmares pack that was just released would give you all the figures and tiles from 1E base set for $50. It's also worth noting that the investigators and tiles have been given minor updates so that they fully match 2E stylistically (no "line of sight" dots, investigators have grey base, indoor/outdoor room label borders are updated), if that kind of thing matters to you.

I just noticed that after updating my App, the APP incorporates the 1st Edition Expansions is one area and the 2nd Edition Expansions in another area - How does this effect Gameplay? Should I enable Both?

FBarich,

this was done because now we have two options: the tiles and monsters collection packs from 2nd edition (that you can enable from the 2nd edition menu, I believe - sorry, I've still the version of the app we used during testing the two collections, so, it could be slightly different from the version you have) and 1st edition products that have been replaced by the 2 collections.

Not so sure how this affects gameplay, but at this moment you should have 6 scenarios available if you have the tiles and monster collections OR you have 1st edition products. Try toggling on and off the different products and see how the story selection changes. I think that if you have at least 1st edition OR 2nd edition tiles & monsters collections, then all 6 scenarios should be reachable and playable

I thought it was a little weird, but you can enable the first edition stuff as well as the two new expansions containing the first edition stuff. I can't imagine it would make a difference, but it seems a bit redundant.

I think they did it that way to avoid confusion for new people who don't have the first edition. They can go in and check off that they have the 2 new expansions, without having to make the logical leap "Oh, these expansions contain the components from the three 1st edition boxes... so I'll check those off instead".

Just played one of the new scenarios tonight - was a lot of fun. The expansions basically doubled the tiles that the base (2e) has - really worth it in my opinion. Plus you get access to all 24 investigators - tried a few 'new' ones tonight and it was really cool using their new abilities. Hoping this momentum keeps rolling with additional scenarios every couple months. At this point there are so many monsters, tiles and person tokens you really don't need to buy more to have them build more. Of course more physical items would be welcome down the line, but for now I think they should focus on the development shop to release more scenarios every month or two.

Hmm... Good to know. The price of 1st ed on clearance (usually 75% off, so $20-ish) might make it worth overlooking the changes, if I can snag it at that price, but if not, I won't feel too bad about it. Especially since I keep seeing the expansions for $42-43ish.

Check out the ebay sales for 1st edition stuff, the rarity has raised them a lot , you might want to snap up 1st ed stuff while you can if you arent solely looking at 2nd ed
