Rogue One Ships - What They Mean For Wave 11

By FTS Gecko, in X-Wing

With Upsilon on the horizon, I am vaguely surprised that Leia's Resistance shuttle has not been announced yet. I am interested to see what combos can be made with the assorted Rebel crew and the Tech slot.

To be fair the U-Wing fills a similar niche and looks to be priced at a good level so I can be patient. ;)

I would expect the Resistance Shuttle to be the Rebel's offering in Wave 11. Not sure if the First Order landing craft will also make an appearance (it might given the U-Wing's rules). But yeah, barring any ships sneaking their way into Rogue One and Rebels, Leia's shuttle is probably the odds on favourite.

Which is so sad, because it's one of the ugliest ships in a long time. :(

This pile of garbage?

Gosh, I hope not. It looks profoundly stupid and makes no design sense--like I get Star Wars ships have weird or silly designs that put Form > Function, but this one is just utterly nonsensical. Why would you armor the cockpit? Now you can't see out of it. Oh, you use sensors and holo-projectors to see just as well? Fine, just amor the whole **** cockpit then don't leave big chunks of the glass exposed on the sides...wait, why do any ships in Star Wars have cockpits if you can use that sort of stuff instead? And why is this goofy boomerang turned sideways? Other than making it profoundly more difficult to fly and navigate (there's a reason buses and trains aren't ****ing sideways) it also greatly increases your target profile for anything that is chasing you or that you are flying towards to attack with that heavy cannon of yours.

Also, I don't get why people think Shuttles would have lots of crew slots. Crew slots represent members of the crew that can actually help fly and operate the vehicle during combat. A big Boeing Airbus has space for hundreds of passengers, but only the Pilot and the Co-Pilot have any effect on the flight of that plane. Number of seats do not reflect the number of operable crew stations.

This thing would just be a crappy B-Wing with less maneuverability and guns. Pass.

For one, it's based on a B-wing chassis, so it rotates to a standing position when it flies.

For two, it would be a ship with an auxiliary arc, because its cannons can rotate to fire behind it. Also it would almost certainly have a cannon slot.

For three, it would be a way of getting a bunch more new rebel crew from TFA into the game, like Leia and Ackbar. Because this thing is a combat shuttle.

I think the reason we haven't seen it so far is that they're waiting to see how the other small base aux arc ships turn out.

Not good enough reasons for me to want it in the game, but I appreciate you defending the ship. FFG might be able to do enough with the model to appease me.

Also, as much as would like to fly Ackbar in 100 point, I think it would be a shame if he wasn't Epic only just for the thematic-ness of it. We also already have a Leia crew. Would be interesting though if we started seeing multiple crew of existing characters as well.

(All my knowledge comes from wookiepedia entry on this abomination)

Cockpit is locked in place, it doesn't rotate.

Didn't find anything about rotating canon, but considering how stupid it is I belive it might be the case.

This thing is just wrong. It looks like a brick (reccuring theme in TFA) with B-wing cockpit.

BUT.

The lore behind it is even worse. It's basically an Ugly, parts from unrelated ships of various types welded together... wait, did they even mass produce those? How and why? Or was it just a one-off?

Ugh. It will eventually appear in this game, considering we have the Quadjumper, but let's pray R1, Episode VII or Rebels provide some interesting stuff to drag out this horrific moment as far into the future as possible.

I think I view additions to the game VERY differently than you!

I'm beyond quibbling with Star Wars' (lack of) internal logic and welcome new ships for the variations they bring. Sure, this thing is ugly and makes no sense but if it brings new possibilities to the game, have at it.

I would even welcome Slave 2 and boy, that's a true PoS.

First thought is "where are scum aces?"

Rather get better vipers than new ships

BLACK SUN VIGOS... Where are they... and why did none appear in the first pack?

And don't call on that lame-ass single un-named vigo card...

Resistence shuttle flies exactly how it lands, or didn't you watch the movie? Of course having it shaped more like an airplane fusalage would make more sense to reduce its profile. But then I guess the big guns couldn't be on the opposite end of the cockpit. Hey perhaps they could have been on the front of the ship forward of the cockpit!

Yuuzhan Vong faction please.

(1) Well, false. The write-ups on the ship explicitly state the cockpit is fixed (ie, does not rotate), even though it is a B-Wing cockpit.

(2) Also, I see no evidence to suggest it's cannon rotates, and it does not look like that is the case in the cross-section drawings and write-ups. Having a cannon slot isn't novel, the B-Wing has a canon slot and a crew slot (if so desired).

(3) We already have Ackbar! He's in Armada where he belongs. I have a hard time imagining what a Fleet Admiral would contribute to a dogfight between six starfighters.

Got anything else?

Uh wait a minute are we talking about the Brick or the Millennium Falcon/Outrider?

While we're at it... why do we even have human pilots? Why are not all battles decided by volleys of hyperspace-capable missiles? Why do laser bolts move so slowly? Why do TIE Fighters have such a limited field of view? What is it with these laser swords? Why is galaxy so far far away full of human beings with Kardashev Level II technology but 70-year lifespans? Why waste all that energy to blow up a planet instead of the mucher cheaper method of nuking it?

1. Same reason we still have Air-forces even though we have ICBMs

2. Because they're very clearly not laser bolts. Look at the way they behave. Not lasers.

3. Because that's the way the window's designed (serious answer, they probably don't need to rely on visuals as much because of sensor tech)

4. Again, clearly not lasers

5. Medical tech has progressed as much.

6. We don't know much about the economics of the Deathstar, it could very possibly be cheaper in the long run.

I'm not a fan of trying to explain everything, but all of those are ridiculous complaints.

I wouldn't mind that thing at all if it meant we got usable Leia cards that aren't just a cute trick in epic. Would prefer her pilot card to be in an N1, though.

Planetary shields.

"The Sphere o'fear...the Deathticle"

Bonus point if anyone can tell me where that is from.

Scum is fine except for K fighters, and the star vipers could use a little love.

I'm sure if they release an epic scum ship they can throw in a star viper with it, much like they did with the transport/xwing and the raider/tie advanced.

cough Scyks,

Don't get me wrong mindlink TPV Sereessue swarm might be a solid list but it is not top tier. For Wave 11 who knows maybe 1 more ship from Rouge one or the rest from episode 7. But Wave 12 is going to have Episode 8 ships announced in September.
