Anyone else find it weird that ARC-170s have no system slot in X-Wing minis? I mean they are "Aggressive Reconnaisance " and they supposedly have a lot of powerfull scanning equipment in the nose. I would have expected that to earn it a system slot.
No System slot for the ARC-170?
can't have any Norra that doesn't need PTL to use her ability reliably
FCS would've been nice
oh well, they're alright as is
might've also been what they scrapped during the "overhaul." Need more room for better gun bits!
Yeah I figured they would have a system slot too
Or a cannon to represent the massive front guns. But nope to either. Though the title is pretty cool and original., and really fun to play with.
System was initially meant to represent advanced, experimental tech. The B-wing had it because it was high tech and the Lambda had it because there was space for it.
- The next two ships to get System (in Wave 4) were the E-wing and the TIE phantom: a prototype stealth ship and a next gen New Republic starfighter. System returned in Wave 6 on the Aggressor, a droid bounty hunter's lightning fast starship, and on the Virago StarViper, the best starfighter money alone can buy. Again it's high tech here.
- The TIE advanced got the systems slot to represent its advanced targeting systems.
- Wave 7 the systems slot appears on the TIE punisher, the huge hulking TIE bomber variant. Here it's likely targeting systems again.
- Wave 8 has system on the G1-A, another custom bounty hunter ship. The G1-A is an alien design so the systems add to its quirky tricksiness.
-
Wave 9 has it on the TIE/sf in combination with the tech slot.
System slots aren't simple scanning equipment, they're usually prototype, advanced, unusual or otherwise fancy tech. It's not rare exactly but it's not common either.
The ARC is an old Clone Wars ship long out of production that's been pulled out of a scrapyard and fixed up so I find it understandable that it doesn't have that slot.
System slots should be rare. It's actually a bit confusing why certain ships have them and some don't. This upgrade debuted on the B-wing and Lambda but would have been appropriate for the Bomber as well. The real shame is that the Defender was robbed one wave later. E-wing and Phantom rightfully had the upgrade, but not the most advanced fighter during the GCW? Anyway...
The Ghost getting it was silly, I think, but the Arvanced TIEs sure qualify. If anything the X-wing should have had a torp upgrade that granted the system slot, as well as a title for the Y-wing for the Longprobe variant.
I'm perfectly fine with the ARC not getting the system. If you want to simulate advanced type sensor packages that can be some kind of ARC only modification.

Great reply @BlueFive !!!
If you follow the reasoning that a recon vessel should have it then you'll also be putting it on JM5K.
You powergaming madman.
Toros, crew and astro not enough for you?
Edited by stripeydaveThe Ghost having it does not seem thematic.
The ARC expansion does come with Recon Specialists though.

And the A Wing
Remember it's System, not Sensor. System lets you add otherwise unusual mechanics to a ship that make it feel a bit tricksier or cutting edge: even the fairly simple Fire Control System makes a ship feel different to one that locks normally. It doesn't tend appear on straightforward mass produced combat ships.

Why don't you try list-building instead of complaining? Here's another easy way to do it:
Norra + Ezra + R3A2 + Refit + VI
Now you've got a stress-control ship that gets to convert one EYE --> Crit in the front arc and 2x EYEs --> Crits in the rear arc quite reliably. Also, at PS9, she's well situated to acquire TLs and/or to stress Whisper before she recloaks and gets that Focus, depending on your bid.
PtL is cheaper, but lacks the awesomeness of a Dual-Arc Stressbot and will struggle to get meaningful locks at only PS7.
No need to project your insecurities onto me, man. I'm not complaining I'm making a tongue in cheek statement
Also that build isn't very effective at all. Without r2d2 you will lose trades to everything above a z95 or tie fighter. Without Tail gunner, you're going to be hard pressed to make anyone care about your tie fighter (sometimes Xwing) aux arc
I have more than enough games with the lovely critters to have that figured out by now
R3a2 is sweet on arcs but you're looking at the far more efficient braylen (with tactician or gunner for double stress v nonptl) if you want to use it (or Thane with r3-a2 tactician; still get his ability v everything higher PS which is a lot of things)
Presumably they did not want to manage shenanigans involving a three way intersection between Astromech, Crew, and systems on one ship.
Crew and astro creates many possibilities as is. Crew and systems on one ship is known to create strong interactions.
System seems more like a modern equipment slot for B-wings and TIE Punishers which didn't enter service until ABY. Much like the tech slot for TFA era ships.
For prequel ships I don't think a system slot would fit. Now instead of a system slot I think the prequel era ships should have some sort of Relic or Artifact slot for Jedi Artifacts and Sith Relics. Put in the slot and add some sort of force powers like where using a focus can select the opponents dial turn over a pilot crit card or something. I think that would be better than giving prequel ships tech or system slots.
Really, what surprises me is how weak its attacks are. It should definitely have a cannon and/or a primary weapon attack of 3. I guess that's kind of what the alliance overhaul does... still, a ship with that much visible weaponry should definitely have a cannon slot or two.

It only has two cannons, (which is why I don't understand why it has s-foils) Oh and a tail gunner but it already has a rear aux arc. So yeah the 2 firepower seems right.

The S-foils on the ARC-170 are heat radiators just like on the T-65 Xwing, and most other ships with Sfoils. We have had a lot of discussion about this on a thread just about Sfoils.
