Rebel "Aces" List? Please critique...(Just Started X-Wing)

By The22ndBattalion, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi, I've just started X-Wing!!! I've got a couple matches under my belt, and I'm trying a new list:

-Keyan Farlander

•B-Wing

•Push the Limit

•B-Wing/E2

•Kyle Katarn

-Jake Farrell

•A-Wing

•Push The Limit

•Chardaan Refit

•A-Wing Test Pilot

•Wired

-Wedge Antillies

•BB-8

•Push the Limit

•Integrated Astromech

•Proton Torps

Total:100

Any thoughts on how I can improve my list?

I've bought the TFA and Original Core Set, Rebel and Imperial Aces, E-Wing, X-Wing and Inqusitor's TIE

Thanks:)

Edited by The22ndBattalion

oh lol, while being approved my post has fallen down the forum... XD

I'm also trying to come up with a Imperial list... Any suggestions? Thanks a lot:)

I was thinking of either a TIE Fighter/FO/Interceptor swarm? Or maybe another Triple Aces list?

Varied TIEs Swarm:

•Academy Pilot(12)

•Academy Pilot(12)

•Epilison Squadron Pilot(15)

•Epilison Squadron Pilot(15)

-Weapon Guidance(2)

•Saber Squadron Pilot(21)

-Targeting Computer(2)

-Expert Handling(2)

•Sienar Test Pilot(16)

-XX-23 S-Thread Tracers(1)

-TIE/v1(1)

-Twin Ion Engine MK.II(1)

Triple Aces(Imperial)

•The Inqusitor

-Push the Limit

-Proton Torps

-TIE/v1

-Autothrusters

•Carnor Jax

-Expert Handling(2)

-Royal Guard TIE(0)

-Targeting Computer(2)

-Experimental Interface(3)

•Tetran Cowell

-Push the Limit(3)

-Royal Guard TIE(0)

-Targeting Computer(2)

-Shield Upgrade(4)

Any help/suggestions are greatly appriciated:) Thanks

I suck with rebels so I am afraid I can't help you with them but your imp aces list would do better with something like this.

Inquisitor: probably fine like it is except you can't take torpedos on that ship. You may have meant Proton Rockets though which would be good.

Carnor: Push the Limit, title, autothrusters and stealth device

Tetran: same as Carnor

This list will require lots of practice to fly correctly due to the nature of arc dodging requirements of the interceptors but it can also be a hard hitting list when flown right. The arc dodging is the reason you don't put targeting computer on the interceptors, they need to be able to boost and barrel roll to get out of arc and don't have enough actions to also target lock. Only having 3 hull and no shields means they can't be hit and live long. But try them out and see what you think. Welcome to the game!!!

Welcome to x-wing! Alright, I probably can't help you on the rebel front (I only play Imperial), but I should be able to give some tips on the empire lists.

On the varied swarm:

I'll definitely give you points for originality. I will say though, it seems like alot of effort for what will end up not being a huge pay off. Swarms typically stick to 1 to 2 types of ships. While all 4 ship types you've included are huge fun to fly, it will definitely be more tiring than it should to manuever that group. Tie fo's and tie fighters move much the same, and can swarm well together. Tie interceptors and tie advanced prototypes also move much the same, but the point cost to pay out of the generic interceptor is a bit prohibitive. If you would like to swarm with the models you have, my suggestion would be to miniswarm and add an ace:

Carnor Jax (35)

-push the limit

-shield upgrade

-targeting computer

-royal guard tie

Academy pilot (15)

-hull upgrade

Epsilon pilot (15)

Epsilon pilot (15)

Sienar test pilot (20)

-proton rockets

-guidance chips

-tie/v1

This is only because you don't have access to some key swarm pilots ("Howlrunner" from the tie fighter expansion is massive, and I would drop the prototype for her in this squad) some key upgrades to consider would be exchanging the hull upgraded academy and epsilon pilots for black squadron pilots with crack shot, as well as dropping shield upgrade and targeting computer for hull upgrade and autothrusters on jax. Crack shot is a 1 point elite upgrade found in the khiraxz, hounds tooth, and imperial veterans expansion packs and it makes the ties much more effective.

For aces what you have listed ia probably the best you can do untill you get more expansions, so here are some suggestions. Soontir Fel is the go to choice for a tie interceptor ace, he comes in the tie interceptor expansion. Basically any ship with boost also takes the upgrade autothrusters, which is a major boon in dealing with turreted opponents, that upgrade comes in the star viper expansion. Did you mean proton rockets on the inquisitor? He can't equip torpedoes, torpedoes and missiles are seperate upgrades. Anyhow, good luck, I hope this is helpful.

Thanks for the input, really appriciated:)

So you've got some good ideas with your list but there are certainly a couple of tweaks I would make to get it up there to competitive status.

One is that you don't need to have Kyle on Keyan because he really doesn't benefit much from the second focus. Keyan will dump stress as he fires and have basically a focus for his offense, and with only 1 agility he really does not need another one for defense. The idea of PTL and Kyle does work well with other ships though, like Dash.

Second is that although Wired does help Jake since he will most likely be stressing every turn, he will probably benefit more from Veteran Instincts. This will put his pilot skill at 9 so he can more easily dodge the arcs of alllll those PS 8 ships out there now and sometimes the ps 9 when you are able to give your opponent the initiative. He works very well as an arc dodger as he can boost and barrel roll with a focus each round.

Wedge is lookin good, just make sure to use him correctly and never be stressed before he moves. It's the error I see new players make with him a lot. Always reveal green maneuver, barrel roll with bb8, push the limit off the barrel roll action and gain stress, complete your green maneuver and be stress free, then take your normal action. This gives Wedge the barrel roll, 2 other actions and he's stress free for the next round to do it again. Otherwise you cannot barrel roll with bb8 if you are stressed because it happens BEFORE you actually do your maneuver and clear stress. Good luck and welcome to the game.

Thanks for the feedback, will put it into use:) Just wondering however, I'm mostly playing with friends, so proxing cards isn't that much of a problem. If I run the Rebel Aces list with your suggestions, I'll have 4 points left.(Pulled out the proton torp and added FCS on Keyan and Autothrusters on Jake). Should I spend it on a proton torp or a Mangler Cannon? Or should I put a different crew on Keyan or upgrade my other ships? Thanks:)

Edited by The22ndBattalion

If different crew, was thinking of Ezra(does he work with Keyan's skill?), Kanan(Remove stress from Jake), C-3PO(For the 1 agility), Lando(idk why just like his action) or Weapons Engineer(does he work with FCS?) Please help thanks:)

Try this one out.

X-Wing: •Wedge Antilles (34)

Integrated Astromech (0)

Push The Limit (3)

•BB-8 (2)

A-Wing: •Jake Farrell (28)

Autothrusters (2)

A-Wing Test Pilot (0)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Push The Limit (3)

Chardaan Refit (-2)

B-Wing: •Keyan Farlander (37)

B-Wing/E2 (1)

Push The Limit (3)

Fire Control System (2)

•Jan Ors (2)

Total: 99/100

With Jan and FCS, Keyan can focus/evade to prolong his life, while still getting to barrel roll and maintain a target lock after attacking. In rounds you don't want to barrel roll you can still evade and reaquire a target lock to get the stress. I also thought of using Juke with Jake instead of VI, but that will limit his actions too much.

Hi, thanks for all of your input:) I was wondering whether to put a Tractor Beam on Keyan? (Fly ships off the board and/or asteroids) or try and make a bid for initiative? Thanks again:)

I don't think tractor beam is worth it on any rebel ships, and unfortunately you can't send them off the board with it. The main issue, especially with putting it on a ship in a list of only 3 aces,is you get only 3 attacks per round (with one being from an A-wing), you don't want to limit your damage output, and Keyan might be your last ship to fire, so you don't gain the benefits of reduced agility.

I am also looking to build my first Rebel list, but with a Ghost, and have many of the same models you have. Which would go best with Ghost, X-w, A-w or B-w? Thanks!

ohhh... ok thanks :)

I agree with this, TB is really best on a Defender with the Tie D title that lets you fire first with the cannon and then again with your primary.

Hmm was tinkering around with maybe a post-HotR AXXX build. Would this work? Or is my first list more effective? Thanks :)

AXXX Squad:

Poe Dameron:

Push the Limit(3)

R5-P9(3)

Primed Thrusters(1)

Black One(1)

Intergrated Astromech(1)

Rookie Pilot:

M9-G8(3)

Intergrated Astromech(1)

Blue Squadron Pilot

Collision Detector(0)

Prototype Pilot:

Chardaan Refit(-2)

Total:100

The idea is to use the Rookie Pilot to provide extra survivability for all ships, the A-Wing for blocking, Poe focusing(for his passive and the astromech) while Rookie Pilot ensures a reroll on his other green die) and either target locking or boosting(Boosting to shake off TLs from friends with Black One) using PtL. Primed Thrusters are to make sure Poe can boost his way to safety even if he's stressed. The B-Wing is for jousting. I was wondering if I should not take PtL on Poe, put Adaptability on him, and go for Jyn Erso on the B-Wing to help Poe.

Another list is a variation on a Biggs List:P

Biggs and Friends/RGB Squadron

Biggs Darklighter:

R5-P9(3)

Intergrated Astromech(0)

Blue Squadron Pliot

Collision Detector(0)

B-Wing/E2(1)

Jyn Erso(2)

Red Squadron Veteran:

PtL(3)

BB-8(2)

Primed Thrusters(1)

Intergrated Astromech(0)

Prototype Pilot:

Chardaan Refit(-2)

Total:100

Any help/suggestions are greatly appriciated:)

Snap Wexley also caught my eye.. Did my best for a list including him but it doesn't seem to fit...

Blue and Snappish

"Snap" Wexley:

Predator(3)

R5-P9(3)

Primed Thrusters(1)

Intergrated Astro(0)

Blue Squadron Novice:

R2 Astro(1)

Intergrated Astro(0)

Blue Squadron Pilot:

Collision Detector(0)

B-Wing/E2(1)

Jyn Erso(2)

Prototype Pilot:

Chardaan Refit (-2)

Help/Opinions are greatly appriciated:)

I think I'' the least qualified to say this, but I've been reading that there's a Biggs in X-Wing, Kanan in Ghost and an Attack Shuttle list floating around...
