If you were going to use Ion Torps, who would you put them on?

By BCooper85, in X-Wing

Title says it all really, I've decided I want to use Ion Torps but not sure on the best delivery system.

Is it Nera?

Is it Miranda?

Is it someone else entirely?!

I know a lot of people will say they're not worth it but that's not the point of this thread :D

edit: Talking Rebel ships here

Ten Nunb with guidance chips. Turn a die into a crit, one crit cant be avoided. Guaranteed Ion.

My Gonzanti thats out to ram fools.

Putting Ion Torps on one of your Scouts in the 3 U-Boat list can be a good play.

Genuine question: Why?

I can imagine it working to some degree, but why would you tech against swarmy lists where you can already put them at an extreme numbers disadvantage early on?

Wait, its because of Biggs, isn't it? Thats pretty smart if there is a lot of him! Not too relevant right now unless you live in an extreme meta, but should Rebels get a ship that can challenge both U-Boats and Aces they will fly it with Biggs. Which means an Ion Torpedoe here or there might bring your boat to the top tables!

It's a shame Ion Torps don't deliver two ion tokens. Great anti-Biggs and anti-Howlrunner tech, though.

I agree with the B-wing suggestion; head to head the B-wing can slow-roll well enough to take advantage of an ioned enemy the next round (1-forward + barrel roll back).

You need them to hit so I'd go with Blount (I sense terrorist are ur thing ;) or an ept pilot with access to Crackshot

Blount can only take missiles, so no Ion Torps for him. He could get the Ion missiles though, but that has no splash ion like the torps.

Title doesn't say it all at all

It is a question, which implies an answer waiting to be had

If it is an incomplete dialog, how could it have said it all? Why do people ever claim that?

...

Anyway yeah ten nub gchips

Don't take dice for an answer

mind fart with Blount, crackshot part still valid.

Drew backed up by Dace with appropriate upgrades all around?

But if you'll reach out your feelings; then:

For Epic I use both B-wings but due to points end up putting on Gold Y-Wing.

I suppose Nera gives you the option to keep them moving away from her but you don't get the damage like a Proton Torp.

Depends on your plan and what you might be getting... So assume you hit and they go one forward. What is your advantage? Already bBehind them? Getting behind them with other ships? Make them go off the board? What is the purpose?

I do prefer having two since usually one hit doesn't finish the job but two hits in a row usually gives an advantage.

Ion torpedoes don't cancel any dice if they hit; you still get all the damage in addition to the ion tokens...

Which is why I have three shortlists for ion torpedo carriers:

Nera for the 360 arc (extra munitions mandatory)

Miranda for the ability to get an extra attack dice, plus the ability to dodge arc on the following turn and still shoot easily.

Or... Any ship that is also mounting r3-a2; just so you can really mess someone else up.

Nera Dantels seems like an obvious choice. I've never flown her though.

For those that have .. is she a good choice?

I would say no. Her ability is handy, but it doesn't really shine because the B-Wing just doesn't have the speed or manoeuvrability to abuse it. B-Wings suck too much in the damage-heavy environment to reliably survive for a second shot at PS5. Sure, you could VI for PS7, but that's limiting her effectiveness at delivering the torps in the first place. I'd pick both Keyan Farlander and Ten Numb over Nera in a heartbeat. One can PTL for TL+Barrel Roll+stress (focus) on both shots; the other can force 1 damage through with Guidance Chips so that you always get your ion tokens.

Push comes to shove, though? You probably don't want to be using a B-Wing at all...

I like Nera; she's fun -- but like all the B-wings at here PS and above, suffers from the too-many-points-too-little-survivability problem.

I've run them on corran for funsies. With FCS, your first shot sets the lock, and then you get to vaporize something in the end phase, and screw with everybody else. Not competitive due to points, but man it's fun.

Raider with tubes + target lock tittle.

That is a barrel of laughs

That sounds like a fun set-up; I love flying Horn.....but it would cost a butt ton; sadly....

I liked the one time I had Nera hit a decimator with ion torps whiel a whisper was near by. Flechette torpedoes and stress hog was even better. Hi ionized whisper take 3 stress tokens.

I love flying Nera. For some who just forget about her because they never see her get that surprised look when a Torpedo hits them and she is flying away in the opposite direction. She doesn't seem to last long unless there is something scarier than her like a Huge ship about to run you over....or Biggs. Good ole Biggs.

I also user her pilot skill in HotAC.
