Converted Starviper

By Gearlok, in X-Wing Painting and Modification

So a friend of mine was saying that he doesn't like the look of the Starviper, and thought it would look better if it had been more "flower-like". I told him I had an idea or two, he offered to let me mangle his Starviper, and this happened. :)

Figured I would share as I am pretty happy with the end result. Tempted to do this to my existing ones now too. :P

That's really neat, I like it. Great work.

It looks good!

It makes the ship look a lot more sturdy/mean.

Any shots of the rear available?

The before looks like it's ready to jump and the conversion looks like it's ready brawl. Well done

Thanks! I did not take any pictures of the rear unfortunately. :(

I agree though, it certainly looks sturdier and more brawlier (that's totally a word, right?). :P

What a different, neat idea (and great execution)!

Agreed! This looks so much better than the stock model.

Ohh, very neat conversion. :D

Wow, amazing what a little bit of modification can do for the looks of a ship!

Agreed! This looks so much better than the stock model.

+1 on that opinion

Thats looking great...

I just did both of mine this way today. I think it looks a lot better than the original version.

Pics?

Nice! Looks like you kept the full wings on there and didn't trim anything extra off?

I did a couple of these a couple weeks back in prep for painting, i did a slightly more "beetle" take on them though. Ill try to get a pic posted today.

Greta work!

Here is the basic pose i am going for on my "beetle" themed vipers. I too wasnt happy with the standard s foils on the starviper.

Nope. Just cut the extensions off, sanded things smooth and glued them to the back of the main panels at a slightly steeper angle. Since they are supposed to move, I think this makes them look more like they can.

It is pretty cool how such simple conversions can make such significant changes to the "personality" of the ships.

Those ships look lovely, nice jobs.

I'd like to adjust the wings on mine. Can they be separated from the body with gentle persuasion, or do they need to be cut off? Thanks

This looks wonderful and like it naturally fits the ship. In my opinion, it looks far better than the original design.

The wing tips like my conversion need to be cut off. If you mean the entire wing, I'm not 100% sure, but I believe they are glued on and could therefore be "persuaded" off. Cutting and pinning would likely be easier or more efficient though.

Great idea! I just did mine like that and it turned out great!
