DAT EPIC LAND WAR... YEAH IT KINDA FEELS LIKE IT'S COMING.

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

Well the AT-ACTs are actually taller than AT-ATs. 32m compared to the 22.5m.

I wonder why they did that? Surely it would make sense from a logistical point of view to use the same chassis?

Think of it this way. An AT-ACT is like these Mega Trucks that we use on Earth (Moon & Mars too...) for stripmining and such.

A regular AT-AT's head would come up to the bottom of this monsters cab. The people are AT-ST cuties... kinda.

Not to mention, given their role in the movie, I don't understand why they invented a new vehicle instead of just using at-ats. There was no sign of them hauling cargo, they were only used in a combat role, and an isolated archive would not have needed massive cargo hauling capability. Even just for a new toy doesn't make sense since at-ats would be huge sellers no matter what.

Maybe in Disney Canon the AT-ACTs are part of the standard complement of every planetary base.

One reason I am procrastinating about getting into Imperial Assault is because I'd rather have a ground/atmospheric wars prepainted, 1/270 scale miniature game. Please FFG, make it so!

But the humans would be so tiny :(

Much better to have a 28mm scaled game! That'd make an AT-AT what, 30cm tall? 35 maybe? That sounds pretty reasonable :)

Don't mind tiny troops.

IA is a big part of why they are not going to do LW. Wizzies made D&D look stupid and FFG knows it is going to be a hellah-lottah-aggravation to add the ground forces into standard mechanics for X-WING too...

Rebellion also does what a LW game should do, so in their minds they have it all covered already. If they do yet another $100 yearly STAR WARS Game on LAND WAR it will be in another scale and the troopers will be nice arty little paper tokens.

I have given up on an FFG EPIC 40K Game. I was sure with all of the Badass Land War in Rogue One it would of happened this year, but no we got a dumb little dice-card-collectible crap-fest... NAH!

I have no hope of FFG ever producing anything like that, and to be honest I don't think I'd like it if they did. I'm sure it would feature non-standard movement, probably with a special ruler of movement tool, unique dice, upgrades packed the same way as X Wing and Armada (ugh) and WAY too much emphasis on the special rules. I'd rather cook up my own rules and just use some of their models.

Then you could use awesome HUGE vehicles, and really have AT-ATs dominating the table!

AT AT dominating the table? Pffttt

Rebel players will just plop this onto the table then to counter

The Gargantuan was an Imperial Aratech Repulsor Company 520 Battle Platform that was commanded by Garm Bel Iblis after he stole it from an Imperial testing facility. It was equipped with two powerful turbolasers, four anti-infantry laser cannons, and 2 shield generators. The Gargantuan could overload its shields, resulting in a blast which created a large energy shockwave 360 degrees around the battle platform; the power of the blast was directly proportional to the shield power at the time of overload.

You should look up Dirtside II ;)

1/270 company scale.

As long as the imperials don't send the XR-85s ^^

The heavy partivle Cannon on top has the size of an AT-ATs main body.

I remember those droids being AT-PT sized in Rogue Squadron.

I remember those droids being AT-PT sized in Rogue Squadron.

Those were the prototypes.

The production model was nearly twice the size of an AT-AT.

Strikes me as more likely the giant one is a later model rather than a prototype. Normal size XR-85s were common place in Rogue Squadron, the giant ones only appear in Dark Empire while the Empire's going crazy in the head.

Well "Later models, produced right after Grand Admiral Thrawn's return and subsequent campaign, were over twice the size of a standard Imperial AT-AT and more inexpensive and practical to mass-produce."

So to get my fill of Space Battles & Ground battles, I actually went back to playing (& Modding) Empire At War. Man, its been a while and still really fun to play. Had to mod in the Venator for the Rebels when im playing the campaign, I dont feel right not having at least one or two in my fleet, even though they are slightly under powered compared to their lore.

So far my Micro Machines "model-that-just-might-work-for-xwing-ground-combat" blind bag finds:

AT-ST x5 (I use a penny glued to it's chicken feet)

AT-DP X2 (nickel, taller stand)

Imperial Transport x1

Wampa x3 ;)

I hope we get some news on a possible X-wing Ground game soon, so I stop buying these things.
