DAT EPIC LAND WAR... YEAH IT KINDA FEELS LIKE IT'S COMING.

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

As has been said (many, many times, if people would just READ posts) very few people are advocating for an addition or expansion to x-wing itself. Merely a ground based wargame in a compatible scale that uses mechanics similar enough that the 2 (again, completely separate and independent) game lines could be crossed over by an industrious fan base.

I read all of it, I usually read all the posts before replying to help minimalist the same things said. I'm still stating what I said period though. I don't like the idea, I don't feel even if Incorporated by fans, it wouldn't be true to lore and would feel very off. You would basically need mini sonic the hedgehogs as infantry to make it feel right.

Couldn't you just not play though, while many others went on to enjoy it?

so how come that hurt it but blasters from the snow speeders had no effect...

If you look close that rocket just blasts the canon off the head canopy. That thing ain't hurt and hitting a canon while going 300 mph with a fixed energy blaster while being shot at is almost impossible. I think it fits just fine into established lore.

YUP... but missiles and other heavy boom-stuff does hurt AT-AT's.

;)

I'm sure the next few seconds is it's head swinging back, and just shooting them with the cannon's still left.

So you don't like something that no one is really suggesting FFG do and that wasn't really being discussed. Got it.

While were on the subject, I think it would be a terrible idea if FFG released a My Little Pony expansion for x-wing as the scale would be all wrong and pinkie pie would clearly have to be massively overpowered.

Now, if the did an x-whiny style game of transformers, a MLP expansion would totally work there.

PS, I have never seen so much as a minute of the MLP show, did I use everything correctly?

Your use of PONY scars the shucks outtah Boss...

:o

As others have stated... is this a practice run last year; for the real thing this year?

at first I thought those fighters were from Armada. I don't think anything else comes close to X-wing scale.

THE PARTISANS ARE COMING TOO!

They're quite a bit larger than Armada Fighters...

But the Transports are Smaller...

Forgotten, you say you want something, then when I disagree, then tell me to read what others say, I say I did, you still say I'm wrong, then tell me it's ideas that aren't what this thread are about? That logic doesn't follow. But carry on.

Couldn't you just not play though, while many others went on to enjoy it?

If they do a ground war tabletop, it has to be 15mm scale. If it is bigger, you can't accomodate vehicles, if you make it smaller, the all important Jedis will be hardly recognizable.

You are right, how dare I voice an opinion. Only other opinions matter. I'm sorry, but can I excuse myself, master?

Don't let it bug you man, he likes to argue his crazy points.

I showed him pictures from THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK to clearly present the huge size of the AT-AT's and he said the images are not right. Neither are the Battle Front images which are official cannon and match the films also.

Patently the only source for the scale is some thirty year old technical journal... that is no longer cannon, and never matched what was presented in the films to begin with.

UHH... DAM-BRAH!

No, you showed pictures from ESB showing the huge size of AT-ATs and then claimed that the action fleet AT-ATs you have been using were in scale with the x-wing miniatures because the action fleet AT-ATs looked correct next to Dropzone Commander 10 mm scale infantry.

I'm all for an X-wing ground/atmospheric battle expansion, but I think it should be treated like Epic, and not playable in standard tournament play. A campaign set like they're doing in Armada could work.

The idea has been done already in Wizkids' D&D Attack Wing. Have any of you tried it yet? I haven't but I was interested in trying to adapt their rules for X-wing when it was first announced. I know Wizkids are a bit of a joke, but there may be some thing useable there.

PS: Could we try to keep thing civil here, please. I've barely been on the forums for a couple months, and I return and the first post that really interests me gets side-railed by dredging up one of the very same arguments that turned me away. The three of us are some of the longest standing members of this forum, and we've had or clashes, but we all love the same game.

Stay Classy Coruscant.

I LOVE the Auralnuats Star Wars Saga. Especially the sociopathic Creepio.

Can't wait to send out Rebel Wookie Squadrons to kick around stormtroopers who have a BS of 1.

If there are no Wookies in the ground combat game I'm claiming this is true.

Or cannibal Ewoks, we got to have cannibal Ewoks in our ground star wars game.

I think an epic style expansion ground war for x-wing would be a bad idea.

I think a stand alone ground based skirmish game that is compatible is a better option.

There is no reason to shoe horn ground based units to the very same model base style and movement templates that x-wing follows. A new system could be developed. After all, Armada came later, and while similar to x-wing in many ways, is different. A ground based game that, while fully operational in its own, that acknowledges that the spaceship and ground units move differently could very well work.

As could a campaign style box. For those that have played Heroes of the Aturi Cluster, we know that a ground component can be done that is compatible. There are countless ways to make it work

If they do a ground war tabletop, it has to be 15mm scale. If it is bigger, you can't accomodate vehicles, if you make it smaller, the all important Jedis will be hardly recognizable.

If GW can do titans in 28mm, FFG can do AT-ATs in 28mm.

This was a fun topic too. Good pictures and suches... in scale.

:D

You can make them, but they can't maneuver on a normal size table. May be not a problem with AT-AT as they hardly move at all, but think about AT-STs, let alone jetbikes.

Well, FFG is using the same system for the upcoming Runewars miniature game...

AT STs would only have a 4" or 5" footprint on the table, less than many tanks or other vehicles which routinely operate at 28mm.

Eh, Runewars looks to be taking all the good bits out of tabletop wargames, and replacing them with all the things I don't like about FFG games.

I'm not exactly excited about it.

So, there's this really cool game that already does squad based warfare and can easily be converted to full-blown epic tabletop battles..... Imperial Assault.

Yeah, I'd be sad if ground-based X-Wing came out. I spent forever coming up with rules for my friends and I to combine Imperial Assault and X-Wing into one big campaign!
