Why you should join the X-Wing Vassal League.

Can I sign up if I have only been on Vassal for a month? Will people be pissed off if I dont remember all the hotekeys and have to right click to decloak or barrell roll? I have about 6 games under my belt.

I would think so. Most people are more than friendly. My second Vassal game was a tourney game and it was a great experience.

This is the reason I won't play Vassel. Too confident I'd be terrible with the controls and wouldn't be able to enjoy games.

And no one would want to play me lol

See above. Just give it a go.

Krynn - I wonder if a $5 entry fee (used for prize support) would help address that "oh its free why not" mentality. Buying into a tournament or league isn't crazy -- I pay 10$ a month for my local XWing league.

Right now the good fellas at the S&V Podcast and Team Covenant are paying for the prize support, which won't stop.

Make it mandatory to switch ON email notifications on challonge.

I would encourage everyone to join. Yes it takes longer but it's great fun and I've had some brilliant games on vassal. It's very cool meeting xwing players from around the world that hopefully I can meet in person at an event someday

With regards drops... What seems interesting is that there are a lot of regular players who haven't played many games this year. Which suggests to me it's a time issue. Maybe a summer season just won't work? Or even needs a shorter deadline to dissuade the people who think they may have enough time

I tried it a few times but playing on vassal is to much of a chore, takes far to long and does not feel like the boardgame it is IRL to me.

I am rather curious, is there a page with more general information?

How much time do you need to commit, when does the season start? How long does it run?

I suck at Vassal, but thats easily fixable with the excellent tutorials out there. I long for more competetive X-Wing and a wide variety of players.

look at the reddit sub group to find the info about season 1 & 2 which will give you the info

If your playing just casual on vassal most players don't mind if you don't want to play with unreleased stuff.

Imo it's polite to ask if a player minds. I've asked and been asked, and in one case I didn't want to play against unreleased stuff as I was practicing for tournament, and that was something I wasn't going to run into, and he was quite okay with that

I get that, but ...

(1) Shouldn't it really be the other way around, that people should expect to have to ask if they do want to play with un-released stuff?

The way I see it: vassal X-wing module is a piece of software which Mu0n develops. The fact that he includes new stuff as soon as it's spoiled is a feature, not a bug.

When somebody uses a piece of software I for one would expect he/she uses all the features that are in there. If you'd rather your opponent doesn't use all the features available to him (including but not limited to unreleased content) it's you that should ask him.

I organise tournaments for Age of Empires II, and we have public scheduling forums ( example ) where you basically make a post saying robo vs bobo then list what times you can play, they list what times you can play, then you work out which ones overlap.

Makes it easier on the Admins to decide which player is not being serious, which don't schedule, and which deserve Admin Wins.

Then other players can also see when matches are scheduled for so they can come spectate, streamers (idk if vassal gets much streaming attention) can plan to stream them etc.

The league has open scheduling so you can play any of your opponents at anytime during the time frame of the tournament. This is both good and bad as it gives players a very flexible opportunity to play. On the other hand, there's no sense of urgency or individual responsibility to schedule games until a player wants. Whereas a weekly schedule (not saying that's feasible) can make it clear when people aren't communicating. I think that ejudicating something like that is just too big for the Vassal League with the size it is even if you made scheduling public.

I signed up. Haven't done anything competitive on vassal since the World Cup almost a year ago I think.

I signed up too. Have yet to play any X-Wing on Vassal, but looking forward to trying it out.
