Second Chances

By Comrade Cosmonaut, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

Aanu comes up behind the two of them and looks down at the unconscious Stormtrooper. She gently prods him with the tip of one foot, then wanders back to the rest of the group. "If someone suggests stealing the armor," she says, giving the downed trooper a dubious glance, "I might have to look for a doorway myself. Onward?"

I'd say "no more Deception checks for Kolah," but it's not like Aanu wouldn't be worse.

At least you didn't shoot the comlink? ^_^

...

Oops, ignore.

There is a long, almost physical silence for a few moments after Kolah calls in his blank report. It is broken by a bit of static and finally a voice, "We're sending a team. Wait there for inspection."

The gotal rounds the corner and shakes his head slowly at the scene as it finishes playing out, "Awright, we need to get moving then. The deck plans I saw showed a turbolift only a few dozen meters away. By now the rest should be battling back toward the ships we broke in with. Hopefully they can all get away."

The hallway stretches out ahead of you with doors closed on either side every ten or so feet. There is a flashing yellow light a few dozen meters down on the left hand side just a handful of inches below to corner of the wall meeting the ceiling.

Sorry, Ringo, Kael got to the comm first.

Bumping on the Gank's shoulder as she moved, the dazed socialite began to stir fitfully again. "Put...down...father..."

She gives another weak pound on the cyborg's back, but it is barely more than a tap as she continues to recover her senses.

Uh-oh! She's waking up :D !

Edited by Absol197

Aanu nods. "Got it." She speeds her stride, not quite sprinting towards the turbolift. The 'novasaber' swings from where it's attached at her belt, clinking as it bumps against the metal canteen hung next to it.

Oh dear. Incoming Kalira—fun!

The gank snorts in muffled amusement. "Put down your father? He probably deserves it. But we'll get out before the inspection gets here. Keep your head down; no number of knots and bumps will give you horns like hers." DLMA follows Aanu and the others with Kalira over her shoulder. A faint sound on the edge of hearing is her repulsor fist awakening. Just in case.

"Roger that" Kolah says into the comm link and then tosses it aside. "Well ...... that didn't work." He turns to the gotal "Yeah the turbo lift sounds like a good idea." With that he follows the others down the corridor to the turbo lift.

Across from the flashing yellow light extends another hallway, connected to this main spine. It is dark, and eerily quiet for what seems to be a full sized Imperial ship.

A destiny token flips. 6 black to 1 white.

Everyone please roll Vigilance to see of you were able to prepare yourselves for the worst when you heard the doors open.

Any Setbacks on our checks? Either in general or for specific people?

Assuming not:

Wild Stormtroopers Appeared!: 1eP+2eA 2 successes, 2 advantage

p-s-a.pnga-a.pnga-s.png

Kalira totally knew this was going to happen, and if she were fully conscious she would be telling you guys all about it :P !

In case, her current narrative condition/position imposes a Setback (if not, please ignore!):

Wild Stormtroopers Appeared! (Redux): 1eS 0 successes, 1 threat

s-th.png

Edited by Absol197

3eA: 1 success, 2 advantage [3eA=A, A, S]

a-a.pnga-a.pnga-s.png

Vigilance Check: 1eA+1eP 1 success, 1 advantage

a--.pngp-s-a.png

Vigilance: 5eA 4 successes, 3 advantage

a--.pnga-s-a.pnga-a.pnga-s-a.pnga-s-s.png

Aanu was so kriffing ready for this, y'all.

Troopers:

: 3eP 4 successes, 2 advantage
p-s-a.pngp-s-a.pngp-s-s.png
Officer:

: 2eP+1eA 0 successes, 6 advantage
p-a-a.pngp-a-a.pnga-a-a.png
SO that's PC, NPC, PC, PC, PC, PC, NPC

The silence in the otherwise empty hallway feel solid as the troopers stare at you all with expressionless helmets. There is a shift in their weight as they grip their rifles, and the plates of their laminate armor shifts against itself while they prepare to engage.

So the plan was to throw Kalira at the enemies, yes?
Edited by Comrade Cosmonaut

Aanu looks at the Stormtroopers. It's a very speculative expression, the kind it's always a bit unnerving to be on the receiving end of. Then she gives them a thin-lipped little smile, closes her eyes, and jerks sharply upwards and back with one of her hands. The officer's blaster rifle follows suit, pulling free of its wielder's grasp to hover in the air. Aanu holds that position for a moment, then flicks her wrist. The blaster rifle returns to sender, at great speed, and hits the officer square in the gut.

She opens her eyes again, removes the novasaber from her belt, and ignites it. The far-too-bright purple blade springs, humming, from its hilt, and Aanu brings it up in what she hopes is a defensive position. She's at least eighty percent sure that it's supposed to be able to block blaster bolts.

*looks at destiny pool*

Lovely, dice. Just lovely.

As the Control upgrades don't cost Force pips, I'm going to not return the Destiny pool to full GM control. Instead, I'm going to steal the officer's blaster rifle and clobber him with it. This is assuming they're at Short range. If they're at Medium (which seems unlikely, but I must check) then I'll flip the Destiny after all so that I can pull this stunt. And I'll roll another difficulty die in the ranged attack check. (Are there any setbacks I missed?)

Move ranged attack: 3eA+2eP+1eD 4 successes, 3 advantage

a-s-a.pnga-a.pnga--.pngp-s-s.pngp-s-a.pngd--.png

I assume the Crit on a hurled blaster rifle is 5, like all improvised weapons. Given that, and the fire Aanu is about to draw, I'd like to take the option to spend 3 advantage and gain +1 melee and ranged defense until the end of my next turn—assuming I didn't miss any difficulty dice or setbacks. I guess she actually got the novasaber into exactly the right position.

...or any Adversary. Right. Here's a red die.

Does the officer have Adversary?: 1eC 0 successes, 2 threat

c-th-th.png

If he has Adversary 1, like the rival Stormtrooper in the book does, I'll pass a boost to the next PC to go instead. Aanu's attack left a good opening for whoever wants to take it.

So. Well. That's Aanu's possibly-ill-advised attempt at combat for this turn. Probably ill-advised, really.

Action: Hit Stormtrooper officer with his own blaster rifle for 9 damage minus soak.

Maneuver: Draw novasaber.

Edited by The Shy Ion

When the rifle is ripped from his hands, the officer looks down at is empty grip for a moment, turning his palms to face him in disbelief. When his rifle is returned to him he manages to catch it between his forearms and chest. The force of the impact knocks the wind from his lungs, and there's an audible noise from his helmet's microphone as he sucks wind for a moment.

Quickly the blasters of the officer's men are drawn upward and the business ends are pointed toward Aanu for having struck first. "Drop it now!" a voice calls out, but it's impossible to tell from which one the order was issued. The group of Stormtroopers take aim carefully, as though this is something they've done before.

p-a-a.pngp-s-a.pngp-a.pngd-f-f.pngd-th.pngs-f.pngs-th.png
Just two shots, careful and measured, but the handle of the novasaber is quite small. Aanu should be able to feel the heat of the blaster bolts as they rip through the air past her hand and arm.
They'll be passing a boost die to their commander, then. Yes, he does have the one rank in Adversary. Also, as the roll suggests, I don't use the stats straight from the book, as I find them, case by case, to usually be too much or not too much enough.

Kolah squints slightly as the novasaber fills the darkened halls with abundant light. Kolah levels his aim at the Stormtroopers while they are distracted by Anuu's attack. He draws in a slow breath and then exhales lightly as he begins firing rounds down the hall at the Stormtroopers, the sound of the slugs ringing into the corridor as Kolah lets loose a barrage of gunfire.

Should do 10 points of damage to the Stormtroopers. :)

Firing at Stormtroopers: 2eA+2eP+2eB+2eD 2 successes, 3 advantage

a--.pnga-a.pngp-s-a.pngp-a-a.pngb-s-a.pngb-a.pngd-th.pngd-th-th.png

With careful aim, Kolah opens fire upon the Stormtroopers. His rifle fires from steady hands and a loud, guttural grunt comes through the helmet of his target as he lurches backward, and his knees buckle underneath him. As his body falls back - and his muscles spasm - his rifle fires a few times in a large, sweeping arc. These stray blaster bolts cut through the air and impact hard on two of his comrades, one of whom gasps and is felled down to his left side, and the other takes a knee for a moment looking at his commanding officer for a moment before he drops down to a prone position, his breathing haggard and shallow.

Nice, shot, Kael. Making a man grievously wound two of his best friends.

The gank takes stock of the bodies and the amount of carnage her companions have caused. She gently lets the Imperial woman drop to the floor. Before the storm troopers can react, the gank leaps forward; the termination of her forward motion continues in her cybernetic fist. Her glowing hand punches forward to strike the officer in his laminate chest.

DLMA would feel the la.inate crack and splinter under the pressure of her punch. The blast of energy from the knuckles of her robotic hand sends him back a step, and he quickly pulls his arms in toward his core as he sucks wind to catch his breath. You all can hear him trying to speak, but he can't catch his breath enough to stop coughing.

As DLMA leapt forward with impossible strength, the dazed human tumbled from he shoulder, landing unceremoniously with a muffled clang on the cold metal floor. She slowly pushed herself up into a sitting position, although still supporting herself with one arm, blinking rapidly and squinting at the scuffle happening not far away.

"Incompetent oafs!" She berated the stormtroopers, her voice still slightly slurred. "You have them outnumbered! Where is your elite Imperial training! They're starving and weak, how can this possibly be too much for you?"

Mechanically, a Coercion check to throw the troopers off their game. It's not what she's actually trying to do, but it's the effect her comments have :P ! Kalira doesn't have any talents for that in combat, so any effects are left up to Comrade to adjudicate. The Setbacks are optional; apply as many as are applicable in the order they appear, keeping in mind she removes the first Setback applied. Go get 'em, guys!

Kalira used Berate!: 1eP+2eA+1eB+2eF+4eS 3 successes, 4 Dark Side

Well, no matter what her remarks hit close to home! The Force really is against her right now (or is at least trying to tell her that she's got things wrong), but at least her socialite "training" is paying off! The real decider here is how many Setbacks are applied. If it's three or less, she even ends up with some Advantage...

EDIT: Oh, wait, I thought that looked a little sparse! I didn't roll any difficulty! Once again, apply as many of each die type as are applicable, in the order they appear:

Stormtrooper Mental Fortitude: 3eC+3eD 2 failures, 10 threat

Edited by Absol197

Ah, Kalira. :D

That is a lot of threat. Hopefully the Stormtroopers won't have that much mental fortitude!
