Second Chances

By Comrade Cosmonaut, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

The armored goat man rests his hand on Ze'nemon's shoulder for a moment. "That works for me, and I appreciate the help. Go with haste and caution, friend."

The red eyes of the helmet turn and lock onto Aanu for a moment, "Yes, the Force." There's a pause of just a few seconds, but it hangs awkwardly in the air for what feels like whole minutes. "We can discuss it at length. Later. Right now, you just put that together again and let's get moving.

"What about you three?" His gaze is now set to Kolah, DLMA, and Kalira. "How about we get out of here before they realize the full force attack is just a bunch of worker droids and wonder why we cut power to the cell block?"

I will leave the decision of Lore or Mechanics up to you, but the difficulty is 2 Purples for Mechanics, and 3 Purples for Lore.

Ignoring everything else around her as unimportant, Kalira continues her search, finally finding a sealed evidence bag containing near a dozen pieces of fine jewelry. "They better not have scratched the mother-of-pearl..." she threatened under her breath, ripping the bag open and inspecting each piece before putting it on.

All told, she placed two large, glittering earrings, four wristbands, one with a thin gold chain that wound its way all the up her forearm to near her elbow, three rings, and a large, ostentatious necklace dripping with diamonds and emeralds.

After donning her entirely unnecessary decoration, she gathered herself, not turning. "I believe I've made my position clear. I would suggest you leave before reinforcements arrive. I've taken a dislike to you all, and will be requesting that my father make your lives uncomfortable should you still remain once he arrives."

Kalira freakout happens when the saber ignites; she didn't really hear much of what you guys were saying about the Force - she was too busy with the "important" stuff :P !

Aanu kneels and sets the parts out in front of her. She narrows her eyes, recalling as best she can the page in her notes where she recorded the lightsaber's design. White paper, with the saber's inner workings sketched in a strange muddy-green ink that had been meant for dyeing. She holds the image within her mind, then opens herself to the Force.

Her senses are indistinct, though that's hardly new. The saber has seen more use in meditation than in battle. But she has an idea of how it should work.

"This goes here," she mumbles as she works. "And this should be here. Now..." She continues on like that until the saber is once again whole, at which point she ends with a satisfied, "There."

She stands up and holds the saber pointing out, away from her and everybody else. "Stand clear," she warns the others. And, as it would be rather awkward to find out it hadn't worked in the middle of combat, she presses her thumb onto the button.

Skill check for Ze'nemon's thing?

"I'm not familiar with the Force" he says to the gotal. "But that's a concern for another day I suppose. You are right, let's get moving." He then glances over at Kalira as she rambles about her father making them suffer, as if the man isn't already getting his revenge in that moment.

But instead of pointing that out he merely states "Look I'm pretty sure if you weren't guilty of something you wouldn't be here like the rest of us. But I'll be more than happy to leave you to your fate" He then takes up a position close to the exit to the room as he waits for the others to be ready to move on to their next objective.

Ze'nemon ignores all the others as he heads in the direction the gotal directed him, quickly moving down the hallway to the first left, pausing to look for danger.

Check?

The pieces of Aanu's saber slot together seemingly perfectly -- seemingly. There's a physical sensation one gets when they are a part of a job well done, and that sense is present here and now, right up until the moment Aanu's thumb depresses the button on the now reassembled hilt.

There is a popping sound, followed by a fwoosh of the blade activating. The purple beam telescopes outward and the room floods with its bright glow. The whole of the room is bathed in luminescent purple, too bright to look at directly, and it casts stark shadows from objects within a few feet that block its radiance.

It's too bright to look at, too bright to be considered normal for a space laser blade. Until it can be properly tended to, it's going to draw a lot of extra attention should the blade be activated.

Further away from the novasaber Aanu wields, Ze'nemon is faced with the emergency lighting of the long hallway before him.

It's choose your own adventure time, Blackbird. Do you proceed with caution and care, making a Stealth check against two purples and two blacks (boy is this empty hallway dark and echoey)? Do you rush to down the hall minimizing the time in which you could be spotted and being aware of your environment, making a Vigilance check against two purples and one black (still pretty dark in there)? Or do you turn back and wait for a guard to relock your cell?)

If Sleight of Mind is not applicable, I still succeed. Spend Advantage to recover 1 strain.

Well, that's not right. Aanu hastily clicks it back off again, not wanting to call any more attention than it already did. At least it's not unusably broken. She'll fix it later. Once she's back somewhere where secrecy is important again.

"Well," she says, "that's that sorted." She clips the hilt onto her belt.

"Novasaber?" That's great. XD

As the room floods with purple light and the crackling hum of the saber rings out, Kalira nearly jumps out of her skin, whirling around to watch the zabrak with her weapon.

When the humming blade disappears, she finally finds her voice. "They put me. In a cell. With some crazed...JEDI?!"

Oh. Right. Her. Aanu looks over at Kalira and says, voice dripping with sarcasm, "Crazed archaeologist, thank you."

Aanu's train of thought: 'We're all traitors, it's not like keeping it a secret from each other matters.'

Aanu forgot about Kalira. Mostly because she was doing her best to ignore Kalira.

"Seems an odd choice of weapon for an archaeologist," the socialite retorted. "You do realize, of course, the last group of people who used those things were power-mad charlatans, don't you?"

She rolled her eyes. "Although, I suppose I can't blame you your ignorance. I'm sure having those spikes shoved through your brain makes rational thought difficult."

Oh, Kalira...stop making your own life difficult! Just stop, already... >_<

...She can't stop...

Aanu bares her teeth in what could charitably be called a grin. "There's a lot about history you haven't learned. You're not a good little Imperial girl anymore—not if you're here. So perhaps you should close your mouth, take what allies you've got, and do what the nice Rebel says."

It's not like Aanu is helping. Only in her mind do "archaeologist" and "disciple of the Force" have an obvious connection.

Aanu's sense of humor is definitely not helping.

"Hmm," Kalira mused, tapping her chin as she feigned consideration. "Take the advice of an alien with a Jedi weapon and brand myself a seditious fugitive, or wait here until someone with actual sense stops by and call my father..."

She arched a brow, staring the zabrak in the eyes. "No, I think I'll wait here; if I wanted to get myself executed for treason, there are plenty of more enjoyable ways to do so. But thank you for your generous offer!"

She gave a smile and a tiny, mocking wave. "Bye bye now! I know doors can be tricky, but do try not to hit your head on the way out!"

Hooo boy! Kalira may need a cybernetic arm after this encounter is over. And not because of the enemies...

Or a cybernetic head...

Do keep in mind that this entire exchange is predicated on my assumption that DLMA will eventually get tired of the BS and forcibly drag Kalira along with her. If that becomes unlikely, I'll go back and edit in some way to get her moving with the party...

"Humans." Aanu snorts and turns to the gotal, shrugging. "There goes our lost cause. Shall we continue?"

Aww, Aanu wouldn't cut off the irritating human's arm! Just... let her wander off into the ship alone. Not Aanu's problem if the human wants to go get killed. :P

DLMA abides the cattiness and the insults directed at the zabrak. When the human woman makes it utterly clear that there is no progress with her, the masked gank in the armored robes shrugs. She is still standing nearer to the woman than she would probably like, and now DLMA moves, lashes out one thick leg to sweep out the human's. She catches the woman, hefts her over her shoulder.

"Try not to hit your head on the way out," she tells the human. DLMA moves after the others with her burden.

The bright purple hue of the lightsabre catches Kolah attention. He marvels at the weapon for a moment before it's shut off "What is that?"

As the conversation between the Zabrak and human devolves Kolah lets out a long sigh. "Leave her. If she wants to remain here and die that's her business but we can't fight both Imperial troops and drag her around". The louder she gets the more certain Kolah is that he should have taken that shot when he had the chance.

He then lifts his rifle into a ready position and begins down the corridor.

Kalira screeched as her legs were swept from beneath her, then continued her tirade from earlier as she was forcibly removed from the supply room by the cyborg.

"Unhand me this instant, you graceless oaf! I said unhand me! Let me...!" As the gank left the contraband store and returned to the hallway, the woman, entirely through the efforts of her own thrashing, struck the back of her head against the frame of the door with a sharp crack. "Uuuuhhhh..." she moaned, going limp on her captor's shoulder. "Ow..."

A dazed hand felt the back of her skull, looking for signs of blood. While she seemed to be only stunned, at least for now she was (mostly) quiet and still.

Reasons Why Kalira Actually Did Hit Her Head!

1. It's hilarious! And she really does deserve it;

2. In-character, there was no way she would stop her harping as she was evacuated down he hallway, but out-of-character that would really mess up our sneaky people, and I didn't want to do that;

3. This gives a plausible reason why she can be set down in the event of an..."incident," without running or messing people up;

4. Unless one of you is stupid enough to put a blaster in her hands, Kalira's best asset in a fight is getting out of people's way, anyway;

5. Her antics have taken up a lot of the spotlight up until now, and it's time to let other people get some action!

Comrade, if you want to deal a couple of wounds to make mechanics match the narrative, I'm perfectly okay with that!

Also, during her "chat" with Aanu and the short time she was yelling at DLMA, Kalira was using the Force to add to her social checks. While that is a more subtle ability that might not register, she is fairly strong in the Force (FR 2), and she doesn't know she's doing it, and so doesn't know that she might need to hide it. Some people present may have sensed her doing so. ;)

Kolah and Ze'nemon traverse the length of the hallway nearly silently, and with the noisy human temporarily out of commission, the rest of the party is free to follow, at a distance, in relative silence as well.

Gentlemen, you reach the end of the corridor, approaching the ninety degree bend and you hear boots pacing slowly not too far around the corner. You're both aware of how careful and quiet you've been, so it's a safe assumption that whomever is there doesn't know you are also there.

The womenfolk should have no trouble getting within a safe distance to the stealthy types that lead the way, and Kalira, while seeing stars, should make a full recovery within a short time. I leave it to you all to determine if this is good news or not.

As promised, bringing up the rear is the gotal; he's got his hand on a blaster at his hip as he moves.

So, Ze, Kolah, you two managed to sneak up successfully, and so I leave the ball in your court. There is at least one person up ahead. What would you lime to do?

Edited by Comrade Cosmonaut

As they get to the end of the corridor Kolah holds up a fist to indicate to the others that they should pause. He then looks over at Ze'nemon. He walks his fingers across the air and then shows the butt of his gun to indicate that he thinks they should try to knock the guard out.

Ze'nemon considers the green ones suggestion for a moment, then nods, then slowly creeps toward the guard.

Check to attempt to knock them out?

Just pick a skill. You successfully crept up on them, so I'd allow Ze'nemon and Kolah to perform one action as a surprise or preparation. Do you want to punch, kick, throw, stab, shack, shoot, drill, poison? Or do you want to roll Knowledge Lore so they fall asleep in boredom?)

In any case, it's against two purples.

Ze'nemon creeps up to the corner in the hallway, suddenly rounding it quickly. There is a guard in a drab grey uniform standing in three quarter profile toward the Kyuzo sneak.

He spots Ze at the last second, quickly his hands pull up in a futile attempt to block the attack, and a cry for help begins to escape his lips before being cut short.

"Hey wh -"

With a thud he lands on the ground, his limbs splayed outward away from the core of his body. From one of his hands escapes a comm, which rolls slowly across the floor.

"Come in? Lieutenant, say again? . . . Do you require assistance?

Sorry folks, my hours at work affords me two days off, but they aren't back to back, so I get caught up with, you know, a lot of things. I'll try and get back to replying faster.

Edited by Comrade Cosmonaut

Kolah sweeps in behind Ze'nemon, providing cover and making sure the coast is clear. Seeing no other Imperials he waves the others forward. As the comm rolls away Kolah reaches down and picks it up. He clears his throat briefly before he answers the comm, hoping to forestall reinforcements.

"All clear, nothing to report here"

Granted Imperial codes were not his thing and he does have a bit more bass in his voice than the average human .......
