Jabbas card

By Beard, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I keep seeing ppl talking about his abilities being awsome, but they don't list them. And I've seen the preview pics where his card is displayed but I just can't make out the words. Is there like a high res blown up picture of his card somewhere that I'm not seeing or what?

People are good at guessing and the cards are fairly readable in these when viewed at their correct resolution.

His abilities are:

Action to put 3 strain on a figure within 3 spaces

Action to draw a card

Action to Focus a friendly Merc figure anywhere on the map

Double action & pay 2VPs to make a Merc anywhere on the map interrupt to attack and then gain 2 movement

Passive ability that awards you 1VP every time you defeat an opposing figure

His campaign abilities are a bit different, but similar in scope.

I have a question. I don't play IA skirmish, so I could be completely wrong about this, is there strain in skirmish? I didn't think there was. I thought all strain was translated to damage, but since they are making a campaign card and a skirmish card, why list strain on a card specific to skirmish?

In skirmish, strain is a sort of conditional damage. Strain converts to equal points of damage automatically, but that damage can be prevented by discarding Command Cards off the top of the player's deck, one card per point of damage suffered.

Ah, so that is the condition. Ok, that makes sense. Choose to discard command cards or just eat the damage. Still 3, that's a lot of unblockable damage per turn.

There is strain in skirmish, but there is no Endurance in skirmish (only heroes in the campaign have Endurance), so strain is handled like said above.

It makes him risky to engage in combat as he can Bully for unblockable damage and can then use his second action to attack, it should help to compensate for his very low speed.

I'd risk saying that if your opponent manages to engage Jabba, you have made a mistake in your play.

a risk indeed, you mean to say you don't have Cruel Strike and Urgency and To the Limit in all your Jabba lists, so Jabba can go on the rampage?

My Jabba will eat you like that little toad snack he munches on.

Your Jabba is indeed bigger than my Jabba. But then... I have a Bantha.

You can have your Bantha.... I'll take the Rancor.

When's this coming out already ? Octoberish?

When's this coming out already ? Octoberish?

Possibly just before Worlds in early November. So yeah October is a good guess.

If not then it won't be till after Worlds, which may just be the holiday season in December.

That last several waves have had 2 months between announcement and release so...

Wow, Jabba's passive 1vp after killing a figure is really good and makes a trooper list a vulnerability against him.

Yep, the slug might prove to be the biggest metagame shaker since the RG/Off errata.

Yes, it's very interesting how suddenly you might want to take less figures in your army.

Yes and No.

I do think he's going to shake things up a bit. But that passive 1VP ability is only worth 2-3 points.

If 3 or 4 of your troopers are dying, you're probably getting beaten anyway.

I'm sure there will be games were those few points make a difference, but I don't think he's going to kill trooper lists completely.

He might scare some players away from troopers but the experienced ones know how to keep troopers alive.

Also, in most cases, I'd happily give you 1VP in exchange for bringing my trooper back with reinforcements

The virtue of troopers is the safety off points by keeping one away from the others and denying points. While this didn't prevent that strategy it reduces its effectiveness, and more importantly increases the value of a squad when it's been taken out. You spent 6 points but your opponent gains 9.

That said, the same idea is true of any three figure group

My sweet group:

Bossk (8 pts)

eTrandoshan Hunter x2 (20 pts)

Jabba the Hutt (6 pts)

Temp Alliance (1 pt)

Gideon Argus (3 pts)

C-3PO (2 pts)

Focused trandoshans EVERYWHERE!!!!

This could potentially be really good. Stall by focusing, send in the wrecking crews end of rounds. If it can destroy whole deployments every turn that will snowball :)

Might consider dropping 3P0 for Under Duress? Could be worth the trade off. Worth trying to figure out if it's worth it.

It could, but my intentions were for C-3P0 to stay near Bossk so he's getting the +1 evade and being the focused target and it gives you that 6th "desired" activation. While Under Duress is nice, most people don't discard their deck and choose the damage anyways (which is always going to be 1 damage). If in your meta they choose the discard, then perhaps it would be worth it more. I feel if I designed the squad to be more rTrandoshan Hunter and you were getting more attacks off with the possible strain, then I would.

Bossk (8 pts)

Trandoshan Hunter x4 (28 pts)

Under Duress (2 pts)

Devious Scheme (2 pts)

OR

Jabba the Hutt (6 pts)

Greedo (4 pts)

Trandoshan Hunter x4 (28 pts)

Under Duress (2 pts)

eTrandos aren't really worth it. Very expensive. You're power falls very quickly once one or two die... and then it snowballs.

They can already easily self focus so don't really need Jabba's help.

Like the other two lists more.... but I've found Under Duress to be very disappointing. Yes it's basically free damage. But a good shot form a trando is gonna do some serious damage anyway, no one is going to sacrifice lots of cards to keep one trooper alive.

I love the card in theory, but in practice I've always found it incredibly disappoint. It's just not worth the points. Devious scheme is better value.
