I'm somewhat new to competitive play and only own one IG-2000, which one should I take? I haven't flown D before to see how he plays. I need answers before 5:00PM Chicago/ Saint Louis/ Dallas/ Mexico City time tomorrow. Please help!
Edited by GLEXORWhich is REALLY better, IG-88C or D?
If you only own 1, the answer is always B.
If you only own 1, the answer is always B.
But I always fly him, I want dirty tricks that they won't see coming, like slooping out of arc, or getting 3 actions including a reposition.
Killing your opponent is always the better option. If you don't do damage, you don't win.
Flying one IG-88 by itself? B is by far the most powerful, especially with a Heavy Laser Cannon card on him.
If you can't afford the card, you probably can't afford the Aggressor in general.
A good baseline setup:
IG-88B, HLC, Autothrusters
Then pick your upgrades based on your points:
On a budget? VI or Crackshot + Fire Control Systems will get you absolute maximum bang for your buck, at 3pts extra.
Got plenty of firepower already? Predator + Advanced Sensors will let your IG-88 dance like a madman.
Never flown it before?
IG-88B, HLC, Autothrusters, Crackshot, FCS.
And you shall know glory.
What're you flying it with?
I'm flying it with two 3ps bug zappers

if you want dirty tricks, you want the shadowcaster
the aggressor's just an aggressive bastard
Personal preference. I prefer IGD because you can be more aggressive. With IGC you tend to flee and come back into the fight.
I decided to go with B

The build that you want is IG-88 B & D, each with:
Atanni Mindlink, FCS, HLC, Feedback Array, Autothrusters, IG-2000.
Since you often only get one action between the both of them because of the way Mindlink and red maneuvers work, you'll be focusing. You won't be boosting very often, so you won't be able to use boosts in order to change your angle very often, and the extra 45 degrees D's Super Segnor provides is very useful.
The thing with B is that its ability only works if something doesn't happen, and I have no control over that not happening. And honestly, the times I've used B, its ability has very rarely triggered; it's nice insurance, but most of the time, I'm not making attacks that don't hit. I prefer C & D because they're abilities whose activation I control. I love doing Advanced Sensors to boost, evade, then S-loop, with the flexibility of using the bank or the hard turn. Those are things I can use every single turn of every single game, not just only when I miss.

Have you played against a 3 Defender List? Or Palp Aces?
Those ships are typically very tough to hit and B's ability with FCS is usually absolutely necessary.
I have seen many games where someone tried to run D instead of B and got run off the table.
I ran B the other day in a list and was absolutely glad to have him when I rolled 1 hit and 3 blanks in my first attack.
The thing with B is that its ability only works if something doesn't happen, and I have no control over that not happening.
you have no control over it happening either
hence why IG88B stands for IG88-BEST
In fairness to the OP, IG-88C is better than IG-88D based on the evade granted after boosting.
D offers some interesting positioning opportunity, but C tends to be tougher to kill and the reshot ability when combined with B gives you a ship that modifies rolls on offense and defense with effectiveness.
Depends on your pilot abilities and/or needs I'd wager. But they're close...."in a fair fight."
I don't really like C actually, expecially when you run HLC. Thing is that you have to engage in range 2-3 most of the time, so you don't really need that boost. Yeah it can be value when you have to run away, but I lost the count about so many times I used the special's D hard's loop. More than a boost+evade.
When I need evade I just do an evade action. No need to boost either, most of the time.
With Mindlink I was thinking about Advanced Sensors more than FCS. Keep in mind that Attanni Mindlink is actually a
save
against stressfull fleets (a lot of people still think that stress is a clue for mindlink: totally wrong), when you have to do a S-Loops/Koiogram you stress both. Then, second IG
needs
to destress with a green, and then do a Focus actions.
So you're actually doing just 1 action.
With ADV, you can do a focus action before the Loops, then do the Loops and the second IG still do a green but is now free to do the action he want.
Yeah, with FCS you still keep an auto TL to both the IG's but the thing is that.....you really want Glitterstim.
I saw people run Feedback Array on it, just to bring 1 dmg to an ace. I can't understand it. Glitterstim save your ships against multiple shots that is the difference between life and death. In a lot of games, Glitterstim saved me from lost IGs, expecially vs a 3 UBoats.
Glitterstim really improves you survavibily
a lot
! If you're runnig vs aces, try to bump those. I actually won just 1 game by FeedbackArray, and getting saved a lot of times by Glitterstim.
But into a Mindlink build, you can't run Glitterstim. So....I guess, I prefer be free to bring Focus+Evade when needed, instead of FCS. Just because I need that those IGs staying alive as much as needed to bring out damage.
And IG-B helps a lot if you miss FCS.
just my thoughts.
I love D and use him and B all the time in my list.

I like them in this order:
B
C
A
D
I have been running brobots for a few months. I mostly run B&C but I have practiced with D. The extra maneuverability is cool but more often than not the free evade on the boost is better.
On approach you can boost into Range 3 and have an evade, if you are already in range then take a focus, you have it for offense and defense and their is a fair chance that you will roll an eyeball one way or the other.
After the first approach one of your Iggy's is going to get hurt and it will need to bug out and reposition. Good players focus down one at a time so they will likely give chase. Without boost the Aggressors aren't that fast. Being able to boost out of range 1 and hopefully into range 3 or beyond while gaining a fee evade is just gravy.
The amount of damage that the free evade blocks is tremendous.
Edited by Burius1981I currently like C with PtL as his EPT. Though I fully intend to pair B with a Morelo Eval, Bossk, Zuckuss, IG-D party bus.

These are the droids you are looking for: IG-88A and IG-88D crew on a HWK.
