I got to Speak to Frank Brooks at the NOVA Open

By KrisSherriff, in X-Wing

Frank seemed to be politely waiting through the stories for a question. It didn't seem like disinterest in X-Wing to me.

By that, I mean through the majority of the interview Kris reminded me of the Chris Farley interviews from SNL.

When Frank finally got the question about pilots at the end he was full of energy and excitement describing the process. It was a thorough and animated answer to a good question.

I enjoyed listening to the chat, thanks for posting Kris.

If you get an oppurtunity to do this again in the future, don't let the negativity put you off. Loads more people will have enjoyed it.

Your enthusiasm for Runewars has got me interested too. Definately going to check it out when it arrives.

Is it just me or does Frank seem really disinterested in X-wing talk? Maybe it was a good thing Kris didn't really make this an "interview" per se, because I'm not sure Frank really cares about the game much anymore and is happy for time away from it.

Based on his constantly reversed email decisions and the ships packs he designed, so am I.

I can give some insight in to the process for this "Interview"

I decided that I had no interest sitting down with Frank asking him such gems as:

"What are you doing to fix the T-65" - "I can't talk about that"

"Why are u-boats broken and what are you doing to fix them" - "I think they but ordinance in a healthy place but maybe have some interactions that are extra my efficient, and I can't talk about what has not been announced."

From my point of view, Frank had been bombarded with the same questions all weekend, the X-Wing stuff I chose as talking points (not questions) was designed to give insight in to the processes of game design which Frank obviously enjoys talking about and I think his passion comes through on those subjects.

You guys also missed the stuff on Max Brook being the lead now, Frank still had involvement but is working on other projects (RuneWars being one of them)

I tried not to miss lead people in to expecting a hard hitting interview as I am fully capable of hosting that type of show but given the circumstances of the recording didn't think that would be the most entertaining video.

For the sound, the only quiet space I could find was a class room style theatre so the acoustics were off, I set up so you can hear Frank primarily. I like to think that I am making improvements and am trying to inject more energy in to my "performances" but if it's not for you I understand.

Whilst I appreciate all the support in the thread, I do actually need negative feedback to help target my improvements.

I hope I addressed some issues in this post,

Thanks

Kris

But, but, but what of the gunboat?

But, but, but what of the gunboat?

As a Huge fan of X-Wing vs TIE Fighter, I feel your pain.

But, in truth I honestly think that its design space has been taken up by the TIE Punisher. I don't know how I would make it different enough to be worth doing now.

If they think up something cool that is not too much of an overlap than I am fine with it but I really don't want to see FFG releasing ships that add little to the actual game.

Think of the "outrage" about the rebel TIE Fighter when that could add lots of cool things to the faction we are not seeing.

I would rather not see a Starwing then get one Phoned in.

Except most new lineups add little to the game. At this point you're cherry picking preferences and aesthetics when most ships are literally an add-on to League or Overwatch.

I'd actually be impressed if FFG stopped and re-upped the old ships and went on a spree to add campaigns and missions, but it's clear the game departure falls behind miniature sales, which is what ruined 40k.

I would rather not see a Starwing then get one Phoned in...

I think Boba was looking for Frank's opinion on the ship when he asked, not yours ;)

Wave 9 and 10 are certainly going to add little to the game for me... I understand why those ships are coming out,I'm just not personally invested or interested in them.
