Bombs: Are they competitve?

My list is currently:

Miranda/TLT/Sabine/ExtraMun/Thermal/Seismic

2x Gold with TLT/BombLoad/Seismic/ExtraMun

The idea is to play it like a conventional 4x TLT list, but instead of the 4th TLT you have late game regen with Miranda and the bombs to hurt Autothruster ships that wreck TLTs. The second damage through Sabine really makes a difference for those seismics.

It's cool, I drop the TLT on Miranda, drop her to Warden, add Conner / Cluster / adv slam and bring Cluster on the Golds. When you pepper the whole board with 18 Cluster tokens it's madness.

Gold (18) + TLT (6) + bomb loadout + Extra Munitions (2) + Cluster Mines (4) makes 30 , then you need 40 for Warden. Cluster is absolutely hilarious because there's so much tokens on the board. You can also trigger a bomb with your own ship but use Sabine to deal 1 damage to an enemy, so just because he avoided 1 of the 3 tokens doesn't mean he's safe.

Going to try this list when wave 9 finally drops, it's a modification of a list I have used to good effect before, beaten dual IGs, palp aces, mini swarm with soontir

Are bombs competitive?

Really, it depends entirely on your match-up. A Dash+Miranda list with Sabine and a bunch of Conner Nets is really good against Palp Aces and can beat them, but it will almost auto-lose to Triple Torp Scouts or Dengaroo.

So, bombs are competitive in the sense that are some competitive list archetypes they can do well against. However, bombs are not competitive in the sense that they have very bad match-ups against large portions of the the top of the meta and thus aren't generally flexible enough to survive deep into a cut.

Totally non-competitive, but when I first played the game I often flew

Academy Pilot (x4)

Scimitar Squadron Pilot (x2)

Proton Bombs

Homing Missiles

That was before extra munitions, guidance chips, long-range scanners or anything like that. But I remember when E-Wings first came out, I killed two E-Wings and two Z-95s with one bomb. Luckiest thing I've ever seen in this game, and I apologized profusely to my opponent for such appalling luck. But it was still the best use of 5 points I've ever seen.

Sabine and K-wings, yes.

Everything else, no unless you have a couple of points left over to add one to a list that does something else.

My biggest complaint with bombs to date is that Sabine is Rebel only.

Had her mechanics been slapped on a card called 'Bombardier' or something? Heck yes. It can even remain unique!

and I guess sabine's technically worth zero points, but I'll make the honorable sacrifice of paying 2 points to get that extra damage in :lol:

You're paying 2 points for the damage buff; the extra slot is a freebie to make sure you can use the damage buff.

While it doesn't do anything by itself, neither does Krallus's ability - and that would most certainly be worth points if it were a standalone upgrade card.

And no, I just wish that Bombardier had been the card that provided damage boosts. Even if she was unique, or somehow restricted so you didn't get to triple-stack the damage bounty. (Not that this wouldn't be hilarious...)

As it stands, they finally properly fixed bombs... but only Rebels get to enjoy the fix. :(

Punisher doesn't need crew, it needs to be cheaper

Cheaper is a type of errata that FFG has never done.

Otherwise the best support they have are shuttles.

Never errata'd but titled twice with awings and defenders. Someday the punisher will get attention but the line is long. Better idea is stop making short sighted garbage or over powered skat. Ya know put some thought into these things instead of shoving them out the door as fast as possible.

You might be the first person ever to suggest that FFG are too quick with their releases

ehh........Wave 9 really isn't changing much

nothing wrecks palp aces as bad as bombs already do, and nothing in Wave 9 challenges torp scouts

If we are able to see fewer Imp Aces, we can see more ships to challenge U-boats. I already know you don't think it will have much of an impact on things at all, but I'd like to see the evidence myself.

unless you can put said things that challenge palp aces in the squad that can challenge uboats, you don't have to wait that long to have an idea of what the meta will look like

If there can be a thing that beats both Uboats (TEH ULTIMATE ALPHA JOUST) and Palp aces (TEH ULTIMATE DAMAGE MITIGATORS) at the same time

Not much mention of Emon here. I was thinking of loading him up this week and flinging some bombs.

I like the idea of using Sabine to fly over a cluster mine token to do damage to a Soontir or someone else within range 1, that is sneaky!
