Dashing Dameron

By Karhedron, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I have been trying out various pairings to go with Super Dash. I really like a cheap Lothal Rebel but the list struggles against high PS opponents like Palp aces who can easily dodge the Ghost's arc or get into Dash's doughnut hole so I want to try a high PS Ace instead. I have looked at Coran but I really don't love the E-Wing and at PS8 he needs VI to tangle with enemy aces which cuts down for more combat-orientated EPTs.

Enter the new PS9 version of Poe! I know that 2 points is a bit steep for +1PS compared to his older incarnation but it makes an important difference as the step from PS8 to 9 is significant. He is now ahead of all the PS8 meta staples like OL, Inquisitor, VI Vess etc. He also has a chance of getting initiative over PS9 Aces like Soontir with an appropriate PS bid. So here is my planned list.

41 Poe Dameron (PS9 version) (33), Lone Wolf (2), R5-P9 (3), Autothrusters (2), Black One (1)

58 Dash Rendar (36), HLC (7), Outrider (5), EU (4), PTL (3), Kanan (3)

99 Total

Between Lone Wolf, his Pilot ability and Autothrusters, there is a lot of potential for both offensive and defensive dice modification while still retaining his Focus for end-of-turn regen. With only 2 ships, keeping him distant from Dash should not be too much of a problem, especially as Dash has 2 possible repositioning moves if it becomes necessary.

I am not convinced about the Black One title on this build. Without BB-8 it will not be triggering that often and only on Poe himself since he will want to stay further from Dash to keep Lone Wolf active. Should I ditch Black One in order to improve my initiative bid against other PS9 opponents? Any criticisms or suggestions?

For the same points you can run PTL/BB8 Poe. Much more action economy and synergises better with Black One. If you are running regen you're likely to take a focus action on a turn, meaning you aren't boosting and removing a lock.

Personally, regen Poe has fallen quite hard and BB8 Poe is way more fun.

As for dropping Black One, maybe? With Super Dash going all over the place he's unlikely to be at range 1 of Poe often. Meaning the title is only really going to work for Poe himself. I don't think you need an initiative bid with Poe though. (Not sure on Dash as I've not flown him)

Try it with Black one and see how often it triggers.

I have the same list (minus Black One) in my list "que" to play sometime soon.

I call it "Dashing thru the Poe"

Will hopefully try it out next week.

Other option I was looking at was Sensor Cluster, to help with defense even more, but that dosent work well with R5-P9, but could fit with the BB8/PTL combo
