[HotAC] 3D printable terrain files now available!

By Herowannabe, in X-Wing

I, like many of you, have become a huge fan of Josh Derksen's Heroes of the Aturi Cluster co-op campaign . Well when I was getting ready to start printing out all the terrain and cards and such, I thought it would be fun to use my new 3D printer to make a little Turret terrain piece with swiveling guns. So I designed one.

And then I designed EVERYTHING else needed to play the game. Why? Because I apparently hate having leisure time.

Anyway, it took me a few months to complete everything, but its all done now and I've printed it all and it works great. Here's the link to the files:

http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1757441

I made files for all of the terrain pieces in the v0.7 campaign kit. I also made files for some accessories I have found to be useful, including some base overlays for marking the AI maneuver selection octants, a deployment guide for quickly and easily setting up imperial squadrons in formation, and tokens for tracking XP and assists.

So fire up your 3D printer, settle in for a long wait (seriously, there are a LOT of files), and enjoy!

WOW!! Nice job: thanks!

yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaa you rock

This is awesome!!!! Nice job!

Thanks everyone! If anyone has any suggestions for improvements and/or new pieces that would be worth designing, let me know and I'll take it under consideration. ;)

will start printing tonight...... made the mistake of telling my gaming group now every one wants some :(

has any one printed yet.... i have a scale problem in cura and im new to 3d printing

Do you have any interest in printing and selling these? I'm okay with my ion clouds and minefields, but the cardboard base stations don't seem to interlock very well, and the pivoting gun turrets sound awesome.

That looks really cool! I especially like the space station pieces. They can be re-used for so many things, even beyond HotAC. I'd love to be able to get a set of those. Too bad I'm broke and can't pay a friend. I'd love to paint them up nice and have them fit together.

I've posted to the Shuttle Tyrdirium FB page, so you should see some love on there.

:D

The station pieces do interlock, and they have recessed areas that the emplacements fit inside. ;)

We should get a list as to how many of each piece do we need to print out to do the campaign. That would be very useful.

Way ahead of you. ;)

Scroll down to the "summary" section.

Awesome stuff. +1 one piece counts.

ok i didn't have a scaling problem.... the had a brain problem. first part printed :)

Congrats! :D

Any idea what the cost would be for the base pieces and minefield only? Unfortunately I don't know anyone with a printer yet, I have seen a local college has a lab you can pay to use though, not sure what kind of cost this would b ethough.

Is there any interest in someone printing these for sale? I don't have access to a printer. I like my ion clouds and minefields, but would really like to have the printed base stations and gun placements. Thanks!

My 3D printer isn't the greatest as far as quality and resolution go, but I have debated setting up an Etsy shop for these pieces (if I did, I would donate half of my profits to Josh Derksen, the HotAC creator). If there is enough interest in this I might just do that.

Or, I believe Thingiverse.com has a feature where you can order prints through a third party. From what I've seen its a little pricey though, and none of the money goes to me (or Josh). :(

Think i will have to would on my settings...... as to print all of it will take me for ever

Do you mind sharing what you have (as far as your printer setup)? Christmas is coming up, maybe this could be a different form of "plastic crack" instead of buying more ships... ;)

I just picked up a prusa 13 kit set for 170€ several hours of tinkering and it worked.

3 or 4 test prints and fine tuning and i'm happy with my first real print

Sure. I have a Da Vinci Jr. 1.0 by XYZ printing. It's a decent little 3D-printer if you're looking to get started on 3D printing, and one of the cheapest on the market. Christmas is a good time to buy one if you're thinking about it, because they typically go on sale right before Christmas (mine was $250 last year).

It can only do PLA filament, and only the XYZ brand, which is the only real downside to it so far.

Did we get a tally of what needs to be printed to fit the campaign?

It's listed on Thingiverse.com, under the "Summary" section:

http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1757441

But if for some reason you're still having trouble locating it, here you go:

TERRAIN LIST

File Name / Quantity Needed / Special Instructions

Fuel Tank / 9 needed / -

Sensor Array / 3 needed / -

Cargo Container / 12 needed / -

Shield Generator / 4 needed / -

Command Center / 2 needed / -

Turret Bottom / 6 needed / -

Turret Top / 6 needed / attaches to spindle on Turret Bottom. Should spin freely.

Station1 / 2 needed / -

Station2 / 6 needed / -

Station-docking bay 1 / 2 needed / -

Station-docking bay 2 / 2 needed / Glue or tape part 1 & 2 together to form a complete piece.

Station 6-hub / 1 needed / This piece is too large for most print beds. I have included a file for printing it in smaller sections (station 6-hub split v3- print out 3 copies and tape/glue together to form a complete piece)

Station 3-hub / 3 needed / -

Minefield / 18 needed / I have included 2 versions of the minefield. The "filled" minefields have a solid background for stability. The "open" minefields do not have a background filled in, so they require less filament to print and they match the design of the ion clouds (I prefer the "open" minefields personally, but they are a little flimsy).

ion clouds / 1 of each file needed / Most of the ion clouds are too large to print out in 1 piece, and have been divided into smaller sections (ie: 1a and 1b). Tape and glue these together to form 1 piece.

ACCESSORIES: These are not part of the v0.7 campaign kit, but I have found them to be useful (especially the base overlays). Print out however many you so desire.

File Name / Description

Small Base Overlay / Place over AI-controlled ships to give you guidelines for determining which maneuver table to use. Very handy.

Large Base Overlay / Same as the small base overlays, but for large ships.

Deployment Guide / Use to quickly and easily set up imperial squadrons in formation. Pretty straight forward to use: place the end of the guide with the arrow against the edge of the board, and then place the squadrons in the respective slots (the ship with the highest squad number goes in the spot with 4 nubs, and so on down to the spot with 1 nub).

1XP token / I thought it would be handy to have tokens for tracking XP earned.

5XP token / Same as the 1XP token, but worth 5 XP each

Assist Token / Used for tracking assists (as per the assist rules that Josh outlines in the comment section of the v0.7 faq)

I would buy these if I saw them on etsy. . . . .ijs
