New base for my LEGO X-Wing good luck charm.

I received a LEGO Microfighter for a prize at a small tournament.

I use it as a mascot/good luck charm when I go to tournaments. I figured it was about time to make a proper X-Wing style base to mount it on. So I went to the LEGO site and found that you can order individual bricks. I ordered the bits and here's what I came up with.

The base is 8 x 8 and consists of two layers. The bottom layer consists of two 4 x 6 plates and a single 2 x 8 plate, set up in an 8 x 8 configuration. The upper layer starts with a 2 x 2 circular plate in the center. This is for attaching the stem to the base and ship. The circular plate is surrounded by 8 2 x 2 tiles (the ones without the nubs on top). On the outer edge, I used 2 1 x 8 tiles on the sides of the base and 2 1 x 4 tiles on the center of the base edge, front and back. To make the nubs where a maneuvering template would go, I used 4 1 x 2 tiles, placed in the space between the 1 x 8 and 1 x 4 tiles, pointing out from the front and back of the base. I then used 1 x 1 plates to make the nubs flush with the bottom of the base. The stem consists of 4 2 x 2 clear circular bricks.

And, yes, I did Kragle the base so it will not come apart. :D

I'd post a picture or two but I can't figure out how to get the photos from my phone to my computer. If I can, I will do it later.

Figured it out. Here's what it looks like....

Think it came out pretty good. I am thinking about painting the base part black and adding a fire arc.

If you're looking for loose bricks, try Bricklink.com- you can order pieces in most available colors so you don't have to paint. Also, 5 Lego studs is very close to the width of a small base; 10 Lego studs is very close to the width of a large base. And yes, I built a fully-functional (firing arcs, maneuver selection boards, bases, and ships) set of X-Wing ships a few years back (2 TIE Fighters, a Y-Wing, a HWK-290, and a Firespray).

Pics or it didn't happen! :P

I have two kids- nothing Lego survives for long.

Instead of painting LEGO parts, you could use clever building techniques to build up the firing arc. ;)

Should. never paint, saw or glue LEGO.
