Monster Movement vs Flavor

By any2cards, in Mansions of Madness

I am going to keep this fairly general in nature, so as not to have to rely on Spoiler tags.

We were playing a scenario which resulted in a Mythos Event having us place a monster on the board in room X. In the text of this placement (what I would call flavor), it said that the monster moved into room Y, scaring a character that was already in room Y, and thus resulting in the character fleeing into room Z.

It then actually gives you a specific order to move the character into room Z, and afterwords shows the character in room Z. It never specifically tells you to move the monster into room Y, nor does it ever show the monster in room Y.

So, are you suppose to leave the monster in the original room X (where it was originally placed), or are you suppose to follow the "flavor" and move it into room Y, so it actually "scares" the character in room Y, causing it to flee to room Z.

I hope the above makes sense. :P

If the app says the monster moves to room Y, the monster moves to room Y. Flavor is some fluff add to explain actual changes in the game, so, I'd not consider flavor and instructions to follow separated.

PM me if you want to avoid spoilers the details, I'll do what possible to help better

I think I know the particular situation... the monster was, if I recall correctly, in the next room, so the character got scared and ran. You place the monster in the location where the app tells you to, and move it when the app tells you to. If the app didn't explicitly say the monster moves, then it didn't.

This is PRECISELY the point. Again, it says as FLAVOR (not as an instruction - I know the difference) that the monster moved into the room, resulting in the character to get scared and run.

The app explicitly tells you to move the character into the adjacent room, and actually shows him in the adjacent room. It never does the same for the monster.

It just seems odd that you wouldn't also move the monster into the room it stated it moved into, as if you don't, how the hell is the character suppose to get scared and run?

It wouldn't be the first time that one of FFG's games didn't make sense ... still, it is amazingly enjoyable to play.

If it says the monster moves into the room, then it probably does. Once a monster is placed, the app doesn't show it anymore and will only describe movements. Whereas NPCs stay put and are always shown like other tokens.
