VP and Favor Question?

So, I was reading today’s (12-9-2008) page on Louis Blaine and saw something that I thought was interesting.
The writers note that the Mr. Li favors could be worth as much as 16 VPs, I’m assuming this is becuase his favors can be used as any of the four favor types (corp., social, street and political) in victory point calculation. This would mean that the VPs are calculated for each different type on the NPC favor card, i.e. so Sarah’s favors would be worth extra points (if eligible) for political and social favors.
Is this right?

Correct. If an NPC favor has multiple favor markers on it, it counts as each of them. Therefore, if you link Human First, James Levy, The Mining Bosses, and Mayor Wells to the conspiracy on all 4 sides (easy to do if you use tee-intersections), then you get +4 VP in each category, for 16 VP total per Mr. Li favor.

I've only read through the rules once, but the way you said that was a little confusing, so I wanted to ask for clarification. Do you mean that all four of those need to be linked to all four sides, or just that each of the four needs to be linked to a different side?

All 4 need to connect to each of the four sides to get the full benefit. If everything's joined together with tees and cross-intersections (if they exist), then it's possible. However, as you might suspect, attempting to create more than one link by making intersections near the Eye can possibly create multiple links for anything branching out of there, so be careful.

As a contrapositive example, if you were to connect Human First to only one side, James Levy to only one side, Mining Bosses to only one side, and Mayor Wells to only one side, each Favor type would only get +1 VP, so Mr. Li favors would be worth only 4 VP.

When scoring at the end, just think of it this way: Go around each of the organizations on the edge (and Jinteki/Haas if those tiles were played), and count how many sides of the Conspiracy Eye they can trace a path to. That's the number of links they have.

Ahhh yes, I see now. Those conspiracy connections are worth +1 for that favor type for each side they connect to. Hmmm... it does say explicitly in the rulebook somewhere that Mr. Li favors are potentially worth 16 VP each, right? So connecting all four to all four sides must be theoretically possible. Probably ridiculously unlikely though. :)

Not unlikely, per se, if you end up with an inner structure that connects each side of the Eye to the others, with several paths branching off from there.

The worry with this configuration, though, it that it allows for a multitude of organizations to drink from the 4-link well, which affects the scoring of Hunches and Endings and the Corporate Secrets (if those corporation tiles enter play).

Of course, I've not played yet, so this is all speculative strategy. I'm going to try several once I get some sessions going, to see how effective certain "goals" are...

...like getting all of the Suspects except the two/one you have Hunches for, whacked.
