Devastator timing

By Red Castle, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

I need a rule confirmation here:

Let's say I have Needa, TRC and Devastator title on my ISD.

Let's say that my Evade token is currently exhausted.

Let's say I use my spend my Evade token to change one die to a hit face (losing the token since it was already exhausted). Can I then add a blue die to my attack pool thanks to the title, or must the token already be lost when I call the attack to use the title?

I think that it all happens during the modify step, so I can effectively use them in the order I want (use TRC to lose the Evade to trigger the title), but I would like to get a confirmation here.

Thanks!

Yep, nothing wrong with that.

Its all under the heading of "While Attacking".

Spending is (effectively) Immediate.

interesting never though of that. Can this work with Vaders re-roll also. Use an exhausted defense token to re-roll and be able to add a blue dice to that re-roll?

So, this is generally applicable:

Check the card text. If the timing specified on both effects is the same ("while attacking...", "before you reveal...", etc.), the two effects happen simultaneously, and the below timing rules apply:

• If two or more of a player’s effects have the same timing,
that player can resolve those effects in any order.
• If both players have effects with the same timing, the first
player resolves all of his effects with that timing first.

This applies in all cases. If the effect timing is simultaneous, use those rules to determine if the combo works. Remember, though:

• A “when” effect occurs at the moment that the specified
event occurs and cannot occur again for that instance of
the event.
• A “while” effect can be resolved during the specified
event and cannot occur again during that instance of the
event.
• A “before” effect occurs immediately before the
specified event and cannot occur again for that instance
of the event.
• An “after” effect occurs immediately after the specified
event and cannot occur again for that instance of the
event.

So, in this case, that means you can add the dice for Devastator only once. So if you're going to Needa/TRC, and then also Vader a spent token away, you have to wait until you've done both of those things if you want to maximize your Devastator additional dice because you can only invoke that effect once during that attack ("... while attacking...").

and another thing to think about.. I did not even think about doing the two together because I never use Needa. But this makes me even more interested in this combo now

So one thing to keep in mind is that with Devastator, you can use those spend token effects once per attack, and you get 2 attacks with Devastator.

So you could spend TRC and also spend Vader on one attack, then do it again for your second attack or the front, then add the die, add the dice, then reroll any misses.

I know you know this, but just so anyone else reading is clear: don't forget you only get to add Devastator dice once per turn. So if you're trying to maximize it, burn your tokens off and then add Devastator.
