The Dark Side...

By Darth Hatred, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

recently started creating a campaign... A Thought-to-be-vanquished sith lord returns from his imprisonment from a strange and ancientsarcophagus and begins to unleash his terror upon the world, there's just one problem, How do I start it off? How do the players get introduced to this ridiculous threat?

Where is his sarcophagus? Why is he returning now? How is he awakening? These answers may lead to some logical introduction points.

Couple questions:

1. Are you going to have them reveal him? Like in the movie "The Mummy"? If so, let them uncover the Big Bad themselves, and then have to deal with the aftermath of what they unleashed. I ran a game with this exact scenario and it worked great. The trick, is to play with their expectations, so the players don't metagame the situation and say "nuh uh, don't touch that, it's trapped. Or we'll unleash a great evil or something. " Make them think they are doing something positive, and then reveal it's actually negative when it happens.

2. Are they going to run into the situation after the Big Bad has already been released? If so, then I would use their support structure (assuming they aren't all PC's with zero ties and background plot hooks, you know the kind of player I mean). Have one of them call and mention they are part of some new and exciting excavation of a new planet! It's their first time on such a job. Or they just got promoted to a new position that requires them to relocate to this new planet, recently acquired by some exploration company, and they are there to help oversee the mining operations. Then, let several sessions pass without any mention of it. Then, have some holonet news vid mention about the total loss of all communication with the *insert place name here* outpost, currently under excavation by *insert company name here*. Then you're player can be like *gasp* "My sister is on that planet! We have to go figure out what's happening!" *screenwipe to the party heading to the planet, to find it turned into a hellish wasteland by the Darkside*

That's my 2 cents on the subject. Either one is viable, but one might be better for your group based on their party makeup.

It could be cargo on a ship the PC's are on. Whether the PC's are transporting it when the Sith lord wakens or if they're on a much bigger ship and are along for the ride.

thanks for the help everyone it really helped!

Stay clear of him and let Vader deal with him?

I had a similar campaign that the beginning was a Cult moving to obtain all the necessary objects (including the Sith Lord) to then resurrect him. Had the players cross their path at certain junctions. Sadly, they never caught on until too late and only started chasing them down after they had all the parts, ultimately the Sith was awakened and they left to pursue their new plans.
