Tactics with the new Han Solo (TFA/HOTR)

By IG88E, in X-Wing

So what builds and ideas come to your mind? (Beside making (psychological) pressure)

* Reach Omega Leader before he has both, target Lock and evade token

* Dropping Cargo token at enemies initial moves

* Hindering aces to Push the limit in the first turn using black market slicer tools

Ideas?

Ew. Rigged cargo bay, Chopper crew, and starting far enough back to k-turn in the opponent's face on the starting line. And here I was just thinking about putting Han in the opponent's starting area on the far corner... Thanks for dropping your trash..

Sabine crew and a proton Bomb/Connor Net/Cluster mine on the opening round.

Tactician and stress Manaroo or Soontir immediately. Shut down Dengaroo by blocking Manaroo's ability to run away.

Force a TIE swarm to deploy spread; pick the pieces apart.

Set up close to the Palp Shuttle so that if it stalls, it gets splattered.

hunt for manaroo

swiggtyswooty and all that (Hyperspacin' for that booty)

so engine for sure

honestly, I don't think the typical falcon build will change much (it's still a ludicrously expensive ship)

except Rey, who is glued to Finn and vice versa

lone wolf han deploying to kill the palp shuttle/get in on the jumpies would be fun. either they start out wide or they deal with The Pursuer all game

I wouldn't say Rey is glued to Finn (though he does appear to work best on her). I was perfectly happy with her ability being more useful offensively, using Kanan and Kyle to keep her focused up and maneuverable. Add in the new title and/or PTL, and she's got some tricks.

I too thought of Kanan and Kyle with new sloop MF and PTL. Seems like fun.

Just not sure I can spend that much on a single ship in this meta.

that's where Finn comes in

not sure how it stacks v gunner, but it is a sorta extra die (objectively worse since it's blank, but it can be +1 damage) which is huge on a ship that expensive and struggling to make its mark in the current meta game

You can have all kinds of fun with various Round 1 missile shots: Assault Missiles into a swarm before its had a chance to really do much, Advanced Homing Missiles for an early crit, Ion Pulse Missiles to slow a ship down right out of the gate...

How does it force a Tie swarm to deploy spread? vs Resistance Han i would for sure group my ships, if he wants to come at me i would love to take my entire list vs the falcon solo.

Deploy to the side of your swarm. If you turn to face him, he SLAMs away to safety, leaving you positioned badly against the rest of the list. If not, he picks you off one by one.

He probably wont be using slam very often. If he does, great. Now he has no engine

using the -1 side of adaptability lets him place before/at other ps8

In fact he can only use it once (one use card)

Rest of what list? Falcon takes up 60pts. I dont think a crack swarm sweats a few naked Z's or two Rookies.

Han basically just forces players to not setup how they want, which is a nice advantage. They cant flank with Whisper, especially if Han shoots first.

The bad is after that, he is a plain ole PS9 Falcon with nothing going for him.

Good news is, we all have a Falcon and can easily proxy just how powerful this ability may be.

Technically, New Han is gimped in tournaments, because you're not allowed to use anything to measure outside of the R1 starting area.

... Technically.

Or, as Greywolf pointed out, it makes him ultra-powerful, since nobody's allowed to measure to prove you're closer than R3.

Edited by Jeff Wilder

Since the card is breaking the "must set up within Range 1 of your side" rule, I think it's a given that, by necessity, it breaks the "can't measure outside the starting area" rule.

Not technically! (Note that I used the word "technically" in my post twice. There really was a reason!)

Less tongue in cheek, I will note that New Han really does open the door to abuse the "necessity of measurement" to collect a large amount of data about the obstacle layout distances.

Mostly this won't be a problem. Most players are decent people who don't abuse rules. (Although it can be surprising to see how many "decent people" are quite willing to abuse the "measure for TL" rule.) And when non-decent players are encountered, some TOs will have the balls to call shenanigans.

... but some won't.

This will end up being a little bit of a brouhaha.

Well, considering obstacles have to be 2 away from the edge and one away from each other, there's already plenty of measuring of obstacle distance going on.

This doesnt work. You place at stated pilot skill then declare adaptability plus or minus.

If you're going to let Han hang out with you at the start of the match, be sure to pick his seat for him.

han2.png

Don't give him options on either side or you won't be able to properly plan for your guest.

han3.png

Roughly 2 1/2 - 2 3/4 (depending on ship size) range apart, centered on the map, will keep him out of your unmentionables.

han4.png

But he may still come knocking at the door

Just... avoid eye contact.
