Need help building an Army.

By talimore, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hello Everyone,

I'm fairly new to the game and brand-new to the community but I was wondering if people could help me build an army. I'm doing ok in the several games that I have played but would like help.

These are the units I have:

--Force Awakens Starter Set

--Rebel Aces

--An A Wing (none of the cards that come with it other then the pilots (traded a tie fighter for it).

--Just ordered the Ghost expansion (looked really fun)

I'm willing to buy some expansion cards off ebay if I need to in order to build a good team.

I would like something that utilizes the ghost and it's shuttle because I think It's cool that the shuttle can shoot (twice) when inside of the Ghost but I'm willing to use try a bunch of things if people got recommendations.

If this isn't the right place to post this I apologize and feel free to move my post where it should be.

Also, thank you to everyone who helps in advance.

I think you will have fun with the following, and I think you will have everything you need to fly it.

Lothal Rebel [VCX-100] (35)

+ Ghost [title] (0)

+ Hera Syndulla [crew] (1)

+ Zeb Orrelios [crew] (1)

+ Reinforced Deflectors (3)

+ Dorsal Turret (3)

Ezra Bridger [Attack Shuttle] (20)

+ Wired (1)

+ Chopper (0)

+ Phantom (0)

Poe Dameron (31)

+ BB-8 (2)

+ Predator (3)

Just a note: it isn't the shuttle that shoots twice—it's the ghost. The ghost makes a turret attack at the end of the round while the shuttle is docked.

Recommended future expansions:

1. A second Core set is invaluable. The original Core set has Biggs Darklighter and R2-D2, two of the stronger cards in the game for Rebels (many ghost builds include Biggs). Plus you get more asteroids, dice, maneuver templates, and another damage deck (though the FA damage deck is better for most squads, the original damage deck is still good for TIE swarms). You can find these on sale at a pretty decent price from time to time, but even the MSRP is a good value for what you get, IMO.

2. If you like the ghost, you will probably want to pick up a B-Wing or TIE Phantom for the Fire Control System.

3. The K-Wing has a Twin Laser Turret, and the Most Wanted expansion has the Autoblaster Turret. Both of these are great upgrades to consider for the ghost or attack shuttle. I would probably recommend the K-Wing first unless you are thinking you want to get into the Scum and Villany faction.

Have fun! :)

Yup, that is some solid advice stonestokes.

However, note that the Poe build is somewhat suboptimal. BB8 has some really nice synergy with PTL, a card you do not have right now, allowing Poe 3 actions a turn without stress. The other meta-way to deck Poe out is with veteran instincs or adaptability and either r2d2 or r5p9. Poe would also really like autothrusters, but they unfortunately only come in the star viper. Don't get me wrong, in a casual setting predator and bb8 should be just fine. But maybe a more competative option would be to swap Poe out for 2x Prototype A-wings with chardan refits (30 pts).

Yeah, I was just trying to get the kid started.

My favorite way to run Poe is with R5-P9, but that is a lot of $$$ to recommend (requires the Rebel Transport). My second favorite way is with R2-D2 and Predator or Veteran Instincts, but that requires the original Core set. Of course, BB-8 and Push the Limit is great, but he doesn't have that from his A-Wing expansion, only the model. And Poe with BB-8 and Predator seemed more fun than Poe with Predator only.

I don't think I would recommend 2x Prototype Pilot with Chardaan Refit just because they don't pack much punch. They are good at blocking, but new players struggle a bit with blocking. And your opponent can pretty much just ignore them until after the ghost and shuttle are both destroyed. Predator Poe is a bigger threat, I think.

To the OP: if you enjoy flying the T-70, then I also recommend the T-70 expansion pack. It comes with two copies of Integrated Astromech, which is very good for those ships, and has a couple of decent pilots that aren't in the Core set.

The T-70 expansion pack only comes with 1 copy of Integrated astromech. I found out the hard way.

First of all, get the X-wing Companion Card Viewer for google chrome, as it really helps when you don't know what every card does yet. As for building your army, there are a few cards that really take it to the next level:

Autothrusters: Gives you huge protection at range 3 and outside of firing arc.

Push The Limit: Double actions each turn is a great boon.

Predator: Almost a free target lock, but requires no action to use.

Twin Laser Turret (TLT): Anything with a turret slot (such as the ghost) loves this card.

R2-D2: Single-handedly makes the rebel faction playable. Regenerates shields.

Others: I'd say there are about 20 total super heavily used cards in the game overall.

In terms of what you should purchase to boost your ability, I'd go with the following order:

Imperial Aces: Push the limit, shield upgrade and opportunist are all in this pack. It goes hand in hand with Rebel Aces.

E-wing: Corran Horn is a truly great pilot in a solid ship.

K-wing: Comes with two twin laser turrets. They shoot twice per attack, so your ghost can potentially shoot four times in a turn.

Whatever takes your fancy: By this point you should know what you want, and sites such as X-wing Wiki will show you what comes in each pack so you can get exactly what you want.
