Are Resistance and Rebel Han base inserts interchangeable?

By digitalbusker, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So, I never got around to buying an original Millennium Falcon expansion pack, but I do have an alternate art Han Solo from a promo event. As far as I can tell, the ship base inserts don't indicate faction in any way other than the color of the lasers in the firing arc, and don't indicate subfaction at all.

So if there's no difference* between the base insert for Resistance Han and Rebel Han, and we are allowed to use any dial as long as it's for the right ship type, is there any reason I couldn't use my alt-art Han to run Rebel Han in a tournament, without ever buying the original Falcon pack?

*: Alternately, what if there's a difference, but not a substantive one? E.g. I can't check right now, but there might be a product code on the bases somewhere in tiny print. Does that matter? Or does the fact that the underside of the base is a different pilot matter?

I know which way I'd rule if this came up right now in a tournament I was judging, but I'm curious whether there's any actual rules guidance on this.

Edit: Added corner cases.

I'd guess that as long as the ship type matches, like say YT-1300 and the stats match there's no reason why you couldn't.

I'm pretty sure there's nothing RAW because until the YT-1300 comes out there are no ships that exist as two subfactions of the same faction, like Rebels and Resistance, with the same named pilots.

There are cases of ships from S&V... But I don't know anything was ever said about using the S&V Boba Fett ship token with a Imperial Pilot card...

I would say it is interchangable. The ship token shows only the pilot name, ship stats and PS, so as long as these match with your pilot card, you should be OK.

The ship icon is the same. Any TY-1300 pilot card can be used with any YT-1300 model – old with new or new with old.

If they don't have a problem with people using Scum Z-95 dials for Rebel Z-95s, I can't see them making a rule against using a Rebel Han card on a Resistance Han ship, provided, as has been stated, the stats and upgrade slots are the same.

They did initially before we raised hell over it.

You can't use Imperial Boba Ship Token for a Scum Boba. Even if you have the proper ship pilot card. They don't use the same color scheme, so this could create confusion. In the Old Han versus New Han, they have the same color scheme.

Looking at the two Han pilot cards, the stats match up. If you were to place the newer token with the old pilot card on the table, I seriously doubt anyone would even notice the difference. Unless the token is labelled "Pensioner, Han Solo".

You can't use Imperial Boba Ship Token for a Scum Boba.

Does it actually say that in the rules somewhere? Because I can't find it.

Now I could see a TO making that call, although I wouldn't. The only difference is the color and that would be less confusing then if both players were using Boba in their list.

Tournament rules, page 3, "Multiple Faction Ships."

"All pilot cards and ship tokens in a player’s squad must belong to the same faction."

As long as you can point to the pilot card being original ffg product, and the stat lines match you're sweet.

Hmmmm i wonder how mismatched tokens like new Poe will be handled.....

Didn't think to look there, so thanks :)

Since the Rebel Alliance and the Resistance are part of the same faction, namely the Rebel faction that means in this case the tokens are interchangeable assuming the same stats.

Since the new Poe will have a higher PS then you'd need to use the correct PS version. I'd imagine some perhaps most people wouldn't care, but I'm sure some would so you'd be better off avoiding a possible issue.

Question: Are Resistance Han and Rebel Han base inserts interchangeable?

Answer: Only if they have the same standard size Lego fitting. Otherwise, no.
