Are PbP Eating Forums?

Has F+D forum now the placeholder for PbPs?

Can we have another header for PbPs?

I'll bite the click bait on new replies/topics in any given forum, but when I see very little beyond PbP...

meh.

It has caused me to spend more time at other venues.

Even though I'm participating in a PbP, I'd appreciate a dedicated forum.

I'm playing in and running a PbP. I wouldn't mind moving to another header, because I don't want to feel like I'm clogging the forum or driving people away

I think there should be a dedicated place for pbp's it only makes sense. No reason to clutter F&D forum.

I really really really wish there was a dedicated forum for PBP. I think it's super important to have them here on the official game forum for new players to get more of a feel of the possibilities of the system. But even a Sub Thread like the GM thread would solve the problem of the PBP flood.

Any ideas on a way to petition the moderators?

Edit: And I'm partly or fully responsible for 4 of the current flood, so I do feel sorry for the other forum members.

One option would be to take over the Begginer Game forums, but that brings the problem of confusion for the very newest of players.

Perhaps with enough complaints here we could contact the support group with a link to the thread.

Meh, Mercury is in retro-grade, so this may explain my lack of effective communication. I'm burnt out from a lack of news content (someone on an X-Wing forum complained that they haven't had product news for 24 days...I don't think he plays EotE), seeing PbP others join that has very little impact to me beyond situational experiences and GM determinations, and not feeling like an effective contributor...

I'm takin' a break from this place.

Be well,

Dave

To be honest the entire forum needs an overhaul. There should be a GM's section and a general forum that covers all three games at once and then a PbP forum. This entire setup is messy and backwards.

When the first one began, we had contacted one of the webmaster's to create a subforum for PbP, but I don't recall ever getting a response.

Well then let's try making this as post as big as possible to attract their attention. Maybe that'll work?

I see at least 9 current PBP between the 3 forums, multiplied by 2 that's a heap of space that really should be in a single place.

To be honest ...... on some of the forums (I'm looking at you AoR) there really isn't much to talk about it seems other than the PbP.

True. The only thing that can really go into the AoR forum and FaD forum are setting-specific comments and questions. Anything about the system in general is handled over on the EotE side. With FaD, at least there's a lot of Force mysticism and weirdness to talk about, as well as "Force Power" this and "Force Rating" that... But the only thing I see over at the AoR forums are repetitive threads on "Credits in the Alliance" and PbPs.

Granted, I could also use a Subforum for Autofire threads. :P

But yes, PbPs need their own space, to organize and grow and not get in the way of things. So long as it's easily seen to expose new members to the idea of PbPs - running into them constantly is the only reason I realized they're a thing. Now I'm in four over at RPG.net and find myself much happier than when I could only GM with a handful of people I know over on roll20 every other week or so.

I will agree wholeheartedly with this. As I am not a PbP player and I forum on my phone, trying to see past the PbPs for that 1 thread I read yesterday takes a little time. I was going to start a thread like this but did not know how to pull PbPs from all 3 forums together. I feel that would be better than separate subforums.

As I write this is think is there not an extra forum for the card decks? Is that used? maybe move em over there for now. I don't object to PbP, and I might join one eventually, but the do distract from information and discussion about the games and supplements.

I agree 100%. I play in PbP games on this forum and think they should be separated. I think Kael has the correct idea, in fact. One general forum for all 3 systems, one GM forum and one PbP forum would be perfect.

I don't think combining the EotE, AoR and F&D forums as one is a good idea. Each of the three lines will have people new to both the system and RPGs. Coming to these forums they should see the name of the game they just purchased so as not to confuse them slightly.

Now may be a combined forum with all 3 names in the title. But I think that would be too wordy.

I don't think this is a concern, to be honest. The reason is that FFG have a insanely strong brand they can use for the forums. Everybody who buys the EotE, AoR or FaD knows they are buying a Star Wars role playing book. If they find a forum on the FFG site with "Star Wars" and "Role Playing" in the title they will know they are in the right place. If the header references each of the three games it's certain.

I certainly agree, it could look like this:

Star Wars Role Playing Games; general game discussion can go in the main thread, hopefully it would become the default by virtue of being most accessible. Then have sub threads for more specific line focused discussion:

- Edge of the Empire (move the entire current EotE thread here)

- Age of Rebellion (current AoR thread)

- Force and Destiny (current FaD thread)

- GM (Current GM thread in the EotE section)

- Play By Post (New thread)

They could keep a separate main category in the RPG area for the Beginner games too, or even leave them as they are.

The only reason I can think of for the current layout is Google. By having it the way it is now Google may rank each forum higher and also with more signicance to the FFG name, rather than "Star Wars RPG" which has other companies attached to it.

This would not be a big concern, at least if they have a decent web-guy. They would likely quickly rise to the top in relevant Google searches. And if takes a little while, there's always Adwords until they do.

To be honest ...... on some of the forums (I'm looking at you AoR) there really isn't much to talk about it seems other than the PbP.

I feel like these rpg forums are dictated by the release of product, which is a ridiculous concept. Where are the threads about play sessions? Character ideas? Mind blowing twists your GMs have thrown at you? Incredible antagonists? Player's actions that upset you?

Pretty much the usual rpg things. I don't see much, if any, of that here, and that's a shame.

It's a far different environment than I've seen on other rpg forums. Makes it seem like this game doesn't have much to offer, which is nonsense.

In other words: the play by post deserves its own section, but YOU can make these forums what you want. Don't rely on FFG's release schedule to do it for you

I think there is plenty to talk about, just no one does it.

I should throw out that there's more of that to be found on the Edge forum than the others, and the Game Master sub in particular.

Well, not to mention that EotE forum is pretty much the catch-all for SW RPG question threads and mechanics discussion. I just went there and saw like a quarter of the threads were related to AoR or F&D

Edit: okay, so not really that many, but there are more than a few threads there you'd expect to see in the AoR forum or here in F&D

We already get confused players though. Combining them into one would cut down on people posting the exact same topic across three forums hoping one of those threads get an answer. And at least one of the forums (AoR) doesn't really do enough business to really justify being around. Honestly if people didn't have Force based questions I think F&D would be a dead forum (save for PbP games) too. EotE is where most people go and I see people asking AoR or F&D questions there because it has higher traffic.
