Northen's stuff

By Northen, in X-Wing Painting and Modification

My first X-Wing minis finished. I chose for my first squadron non other than a classical TIE-swarm

Idea was to keep color scheme as classical, with some touch of the weathering. To add my personal twist, the side panels have been decorated by imperial iconography to reflect the veteran status of the pilots. They are Black squadron after all.

Glad to hear feedback.

Looking good. Very original; I don't think I've seen the Death Star, Tie Pilot or a Wampa painted on a TIE before.

10 out of 10 for originality. Very cool!

Thanks for the kind words.

I was bit worried about the Wampa painting, but glad to see people recognize it.

This is as far as I tend to go on my Imperial ships:

I usually try to keep it subtle. I just don't have the space balls that you have.

Nicely done. I really like the creativity!

Looks good still, and maybe those pilots are fans of cubism or something :)

The wampa is my favorite one. Definitely recognizable

More TIE fighters!

Following the previously done models, just wanted to make few more.

Slighty Off topic, but it's still a X-wing...
Managed to complete this earlier this fall, hope you like it

Painted this for one local scale modeling show, scale is roughly 1:41. Kit was MPC's (notice not Force Awakens but Return of the Jedi promotion :) ) form the 1980's. I acquired the kit through some random channels almost decade ago. I have tried to complete on several occasions, but always failed, part of the reason was that it was missing some pieces, most notably the hatch for the cockpit.

IMG_3132.jpg

Never the less, I was able to finish the model now, even with a scenic hangar base and with some custom built parts..

Process:
The original cockpit was bit plane so I added some details, like the seat padding and joystick

OOOHHHH VERY NICE !

Might not be ffg, but looks AWESOME all the same.

very nicely done.

The X Wing looks superb but I really like your your hanger diorama build.

Nice to see another great painter in the Painting forums.

All the best,

Barry.

Nice freehands, nice diorama :D Extra points for recreating missing parts and finishing the X-Wing, looks great.

Thanks guys, nice to hear it from you two, like both of your stuff as well.

Coming up next, managed to primer these yesterday,

IMG_3225.jpg

I always have problem with paint around the Lambda wings joints :/ Did you remove the paint and then primed?

The fangs on Night Beast look wicked. All the TIEs are nicely done.

Great diorama. I must echo Barry: it's good to have more great painters share their work here on the forums.

@ BlueFrog: What I've done in the past is prime the top as Northen shows in their pic. After that dries, raise the wings and then prime the underside, etc. There's always a little touch up with the joints, but it's minimal.

(Look at me: Here I am trying to explain to Georgia O'Keeffe or Frida Khalo how to prep their canvas... )

Yeah, but those touch ups upsets me xD And the 1st edition Lambdas are the worst : (

I mean, I'm fixing their wings before painting anyway, but in comparison to other models Lambda is hard to work with (even tho it usually looks amazing when finished)

Sorry for small offtopic :P

Force Majeure: Thanks!

BlueFrog: I did what Force Majeure explained, enough coverage for me but I can see your issue :) After the 80's X-wing the Lambda feels like a breeze, but I agree that the wings can be annoying. I will keep mine moving so I can more easily transport it to game nights.

DAT Sombrero R3(?) Unit!!!

Those TIEs of yours are really good looking. It's difficult to do much with TIEs without leaving the normally rather boring grey paint scheme but you've certainly managed it.

Also I had that exact type of X-wing kit when I was a kid. Of course, I bungled it up quite a bit, and it most certainly didn't look as good as yours.

Thanks MacrossVF1!

Got the Lambda painted, again classical scheme with bit of grim and dirt added.

CLASSIC! Now that's what the Lambda should look like.

My Lambda came though the mail, so I didn't have a say-so on what was sent to me. What arrived looked like someone had spilled a bottle of black ink on it and tried to wipe it off with a dirty nappy. Or a sea hag's merkin. (Too much?)

Enough about that. Your Lambda is terrific. Great weathering; it looks world weary and battle worn.

Thanks Force Majeure, glad to hear you liked the grim and dirt on the Lambda.

Finished the Firespray today.

Followed the Kath Scarlet scheme for this one. I did not want to make totally symmetrical red patterns as this gave me bit more freedom to balance with the amount of red and white.

Green hue and black base on the cockpit glass is there to give bit contrast for the white/red panels. Backside engine glows follow the movies yellow/orange colors of Boba's Firespray. And I painted some extra detailing on the small components (I wonder if the SW universe has warning stripes?)

Your Palp Shuttle looks mean! The Decimator is nothing to shrug at either. Excellent work!

I'm a bit late to the party, but I gotta say, that Night Beast is absolutely epic.
