What kind of color for spray-painting bases?

By Darth Veggie, in Star Wars: Armada Painting and Modification

Hi everybody,

I want to spray-paint my ship and squad bases in black. What kind of color is used? Can I use my citadel primer spray? Or is something else recommended? Thank you in advance!

Citadel black spray will work fine. 2 light coats to prevent overdoing it and getting drip marks.

Magenta

Paisley. Nothing works better!

Just about any spray paint should be fine. I painted my x-wing bases (same plastic) with some cheap rustoleum from Walmart.

Some spray paints react badly to plastic. Check your labels and always test on something first. I use the Army painter range of sprays to prime as it offers a wide range of color options.

Krylon matte black (Lowe's/Home Depot) works for the bases just fine. Wipe down with some rubbing alcohol or at least a damp rag and let dry before spraying.

Spray with a few layers- better than too thick of a layer.

Yep, seconding Stasy on this one completely: Krylon matte black works great. Same prep method or at least some soapy water and air dry, and you tend to get good results.

You can tell us old Modelling Vets, because we clean everything before painting.

Any tips for squadron pegs? Do you guys spray them as one thing or individually.

I'm about ready to glue the trees onto the base pegs as them seem to fall out almost every time I activate them now.

The krylon is great, I never bothered prepping anything and had no issues.

Don't use enamel because you won't be able to squeeze in the pilot token.

Rustolem makes a mirror finish that isn't bad.

I stick the two parts into cardboard from a leftover Amazon shipment or a pizza box. I keep them separate for no specific reason... I guess I did that from the beginning and kept the habit.

If you leave the pegs separate and spray them they fit nice and tight. I also assist them when I spray for who knows why

If you're having issues with them staying together, then I would paint them separate. Otherwise, I paint mine as a unit.

Yep, Krylon flat black for plastics. Cheap and effective.

This. It bonds nicely with the plastic and you don't have to worry as much about it.
