Would it be better if this product was an LCG? Yes.

Would it have been confusing having two different SW LCGs? Yes

Would it have been hard to market LCG packs that included tons of dice and therefore been more expensive? Yes

Would it have been impossible to sell an LCG product with tons of SKUs in mass market stores? Yes

There's tons of legitimate reasons why this game is collectible - it's just different - it doesn't mean that we should wish for it to be a flop

The QQ is real. Yo listen, your experience was that you didn't realize it was TCG you thought it was LCG. Well GET OVER IT. You are the exception not the rule and coming on a forum thats filled with people have genuine interest in the game to express your ODD perception is not going to get you any sympathy. Your are now complaining for the sake of complaining.

And LCG's aren't cheap ... my buddies jumping in would not be doing so if it was released in that format. They are their own animal which also put a unique lid on casual play. Decision is made, so it is laughable that people resist and personalize what is basic reality.

LCG's are definitely not cheap. Its a great model, but you have to keep up with all the expansions. Collectable, you can buy what you are comfortable with and not be handicapped.

Collectible games are just more fun and interesting to me. I would not have given this game a second look if it were another LCG. The act of collecting is a huge part of my enjoyment of these things. Now if only they came up with premium holographic dice...

Personally, i only currently play X-wing. I just recently got back into tabletop gaming after a decade being removed from the hobby. I also have kids. My oldest Daughter is just old enough to play x-wing, and while she enjoys it, she is really drawn to the characters in SW more than she is to the ships etc so the immersion is not fully there for her.

I have been looking for a second game to buy into to pair with x-wing, and we both have been eyeballing Dicemasters just prior to this announcement. While dicemasters did interest us, it just didn't do enough to convince me of a buy in at his point in that game. I wasn't happy with the quality after seeing a few packs opened, and i am not a huge personal fan of the company that produces the game.

FFG on the other hand has done nothing but solidly impress me since buying into x-wing, and i had been looking for another game to buy into from them, but had not settled on anything up to this point. I love the concept of Armada, but didnt want another toy space ship game, and while the star wars LCG game interested me, it is not popular locally. I was most sold on imperial assault, buy after spending my teenage years painting 40k minis, i didnt really want to get back into that aspect of mini gaming, and TBH really didnt want to get into another miniature game at all. X-wing fills my need there.

I grew up collecting comic cards and movie cards and sticker books etc, so the ccg format did not bother me, and actually interests both me and my daughter as a different collecting experience than x-wing offers. When explaining the format to her, she was actually really excited most for the collectible and trading aspect it can offer her. She was also excited by the fact that she could potentially pair up leia with padme, or Rey with sabine etc. It hits the right notes for her.

Me personally, im a collector, so i will likely approach the game with a "gotta catch em all" mentality( yes i spent $40 for a pair of promo cards). I try to collect all of the promo cards for x-wing, and i will continue to do so for Destiny because ultimately im a collector, and i enjoy collecting. At this point in my life, i have learned that all hobbies are money pits. Its just a matter of whether or not those money pits are justifiable on a personal level.

My daughter on the other hand, will likely approach this game as i did when i collected cards as a child. Buy a pack here and there with her allowance money, and trade what she doesn't want/need with other kids at school or FLGS.

Judging on the success of dicemasters in my area, the high interest in FFG games locally, the rejuvenation of the star wars cannon, and the meshing of characters from various timelines, I think this game is going to do really well.

Wow. ANOTHER topic from someone who just wants to crap all over the game. And when called on his nonsense, becomes belligerent.

I seriously do not understand the need for people to come to a forum like this, just to crap all over everything. If you don't like the game or concept or whatever, just don't buy it and for the love of god shut up about it.

I'm tired of hear the game is a money pit justification for disliking CCG's. It's not radically different than a LCG as far as I can tell. You now pay a much lower price for a random card assortment instead of having a higher pay wall for a guarantee for certain cards. For some people $5 here and there for random packs is much more accessible than spending $30-$40 for the core sets and $10-$15 for each cycle pack when they come out. I'm not saying that CCG's aren't money pits, just saying that both CCG's and LCG's are money pits.

THIS. As an investment, the LCG asked you to buy so many cards at a time that it was tough to really play all of them, to mix and match the new cards without a lot of work and card-sorting, as you were playing them six at a time. Each Force Pack had 60 or so cards (many of them doubles), and so it was somewhat difficult to manage the cards, even if was substantially easier--if not more costly at each expansion's release--to collect all of them. You're out hundred of dollars either way--it's just the distribution that changes.

I will also weigh in with this: opening booster packs can be really exciting. Not every pack will be a treasure chest of rare cards, but for $3--less than a cup of coffee-shop coffee, or a pint of beer at a pub--you'll get the chance to add to your collection, or get a card your buddy has been after for a while, or just have the thrill of going for it. It'll make playing urgent and exciting --you'll be rushing to get home and swapping out for a new card and finding the first person you can play with. That's at least as satisfying as a cup of coffee.

I don't like the CCG model, so I won't be buying this game. I wonder why more people aren't just following suit with a similar mind set. I hope it is fun and those interested in it have a good time with it though.
