The start of the NoVA Open Final Armada Narrative Battle

By Englishpete, in Star Wars: Armada

The NoVA Open occurred over the weekend and as well as the Armada Championship, we ran a narrative campaign. There were 4 battles prior to this that were 1-1 battles between players. This was a picture of the start of the final Battle Royale today.

Does that Super Star Destroyer fight or is just for the Imperial Navy officers sightseeing... er... I mean to learn?

It fights :-)

I'm very much curious as to what the the actual narrative was. I imagine we're going to see a full on battle-report at some point?

It fights :-)

It can fight. Most of the time it's crew is just sightseeing the galaxy. ;)

But yes, it's a awesome ship and very awesome model, so kudos to EnglishPete (and everyone else involved) for making this battle happen.

It was an awesome narrative! Thank you!

Mike and I are just happy you all enjoyed it and had fun.

Batrep or it didn't happen!

I'm not really sure what the rebels are supposed to do there.

I'm not really sure what the rebels are supposed to do there.

Die, and it be a cheap funeral.

Rebels were winning most of the games, so good job there. Btw, is there anything on the Imperial side to cancel/counter/minimize Dodonna's abilities to cause crits so effectively? Or repair faster after another crit that results with: "forget the shields, let me choose one of the four face up crits that will hurt the most". In retrospective, I think the solution was to put most of the command dials on engineering, and attempt to repair myself faster than I am being kicked, but not sure if this is the optimal.

8 ISDs!!!

Heaven! :D

The only thing missing is the 30+ TIE squadrons :)

I was in the XWing narrative, and looked over, saw that table, and immediately heard the Imperial March in my head.

Strangely, the Rebellion was winning when the time ran out........

I had no idea. I was too busy getting my butt handed to me in my game lol

This was the end of turn 3

If we had been able to complete a 5th turn, I think the Empire would have been ahead, but time ran out and the aggressive Rebel approach paid off.

Great Quigon's Ghost that is a big ole hunka death!

It's a triple Liberty sandwich! SSD on one side, double ISD on the other.....3 Liberties in between.

How the heck did that happen?

May I ask what the game objective was?

@Maturin, the first two turns folks could Hyperspace a fleet out to help with the X-wing narrative and then randomly hyperspace back in. That is how certain Rebel and Imperial ships ended up where they were, it also stopped the 'walk the line' approach the battle might otherwise have taken.

@the cactusman17, the objective of the Rebels was was destroy or drive off the SSD. The Imperials objective was to cripple the rebel fleet (Have killed more ships than the Rebels, when time was called.) There had been 4 previous battles leading up to this one.

In the end, it was a draw.

Here is the epilogue of the combined Armada/X-wing narratives.

EPILOGUE:

The night sky above UR-9535 is a riot of color, light and activity. The red twin ion engines of the imperial craft trace across the night sky before fading from view or flaring with a brief, white-hot intensity before dimming into a delicate shower of glittering orange and yellow debris. The last of the Rebel craft dock unopposed aboard their new vessel. They have emerged, finally victorious, aboard the object of their hard-fought endeavor. The Imperial Star Destroyer Astrabellum is theirs.

With a shudder and an intense glare of blue-white light from the massive ship’s blue/white engines, the starship moves into low orbit, into a position better suited to locate and recover the hundreds of wounded, downed pilots, pirate captives and stragglers awaiting rescue on the planet below.

Just as the crew sets to the task of preparing for the massive search and rescue mission, proximity alarms wail to life. The bridge immediately becomes a cyclone of activity as sensors confirm what many feared. The Rebel fleet at Fondor was not able to finish its task. The Imperial Fleet, led by the titanic Super Star Destroyer Ravager had arrived.

With no hope of mounting any effective resistance to this newly arrived threat, the Rebels, moments ago filled with the jubilation of a hard-won victory, could do nothing but turn their new prize into high orbit and immediately prepare to flee the system into hyperspace. They would have to cling to the small hope that their stranded comrades on the surface below could somehow evade capture or worse.

As the Astrabellum streaks into hyperspace and disappears in a distant flash, the command bridge on board the Ravager carries on in nearly indifferent, mechanical efficiency. A severe looking, crisply dressed officer approaches the imposing, black-armored form in the center of the viewing deck and quickly asks if the new Emperor would like to begin operations to both recover the stranded Imperials on the planet’s surface and to root out the Rebel survivors. Vader responds that there will be no recovery operation. The fleet is to immediately move into position and begin full-scale bombardment of the surface. Nothing is to be left alive on UR-9535.

Far below in the hot, jungle night, a wounded pilot looks skyward as the deploying fleet glitters in formation around a single massive wedge. In his survival gear it is impossible to identify for whom he flew. As he looks, tiny glints of flickering green fill the sky. One in particular catches his eye as it quickly grows in intensity as if growing larger ever nearer. By the time he comprehends what it is he is seeing, all around him is fire and noise…and then silence. The silence of Death…..

How the heck did that happen?

Those three Libertys had already accounted for two ISD-II's that were in front of them...

It was awesome.

Where were all the squdrons

We limited squadrons to three per fleet of 250 points for speed of rounds.

In hindsight we should have said you must bring exactly 3, as all but 1 Imperial player brought zero :-)

Because otherwise people would not be able to bring 2 ISDs! (Although only few ISD's on the table had ECM's or Gunnery teams I think)
