UHH... We CAN Battlestar Galactica... Now!!!

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

I've always wondered that if the reimagined BSG had been named anything but BSG and was a unique sci fi franchise...would anyone have cared about it at all?

This is obviously a very hypothetical situation, but I think it would have made it MORE successful. I don't think a majority of it's fans were people in love with the original, just people who loved good sci-fi and/or good drama. I know it was hard to convince people to watch it because of the name. They either associated it with the corny original, or thought it was a silly star trek type show.

It got high marks early one for its "grown-upness" but when Starbuck slept with Baltar, that was it.

Gah! I don't even remember that. I watched the entire series, but it was like watching a horrific train wreck in super slow motion. I never really "enjoyed" watching it, but I simply had to see what absurdity they did next.

My cousin liked to describe the shos as "You know all those tired, boring cliches that you find in really bad sci-fi? BSG doesn't do any of them, instead it has discovered entirely new ways to be terrible. "

Replace "DON'T WALK BACKWARDS INTO THE DARK ROOM!" with "DON'T SLEEP WITH HER!"

I don't play armada, but this I would shell out money for.

New BSG was good for 2 seasons until "everyone is Cylon". I really enjoyed the military aspect on the show, and the causalities caused by simple mistakes and human errors. Even the haters of the series do have to admit the Galactica falling through the atmosphere was pretty frackin awesome. After the writers strike, it really jumped the shark.

The Original BSG is something special, I always loved the concept and its mythos was intriguing, but there is some very bad 70's camp through out the series. The daggit was awful. It is also a very Mormon show for better or worse. (I don't mind, but I know some that do.)

I suppose because I saw the original series BSG first, that was always "the" one for me. Had some classics in it, when, trying to escape, they stopped at the casino planet, and the civil leader (Cyrus?)tried to over rule the military, the bit where Apollo comes up and shouts for eveyone to leave, and the civvy says no, stay put, then the cyclons appear firing, and the civvy points at Apollo and shouts "do what that man says". Followed by the BSG under heavy attack, and Athena reports waves of small ships coming up from the surface, and the bridge crew need clean underwear, then someone says "Colonial Vipers, they're ours" and Adama says "looks like a lot of our people disobeyed orders and skipped the party, remind me to discuss disciplie"

All the references to the Earth, planets named after the signs of the zodiac, pyramids etc, I thought good. Think it was a spin off film showed another battlestar and "Silver Spar sqn" - Lloyd Bridges as Commander?

Then go for it!

Full Thrust is a great Tabletop System and the guys from Mechworld have made very fitting BSG scenarios and rules.

The Battlestars and Basestars are revell models.

I have been following the topic, but I don't get the title of it and the first post. :(

As for the series, I have not (yet) seen the original series. The new one was interesting for the first two seasons. Then it switched from threat, worries and spece combat to tensions between humans and cylons. Who do you trust? can you trust? and such questions were everytimes. I did not know what to expect, when I watched it, but I just wanted to know will they find Earth or not in the end.

I think Joe is saying that the E-Wing and the Tie- Striker look similiar to the fighter craft from Galactica and so we can now sort of play BSG.

Too bad we don't have the T-wing...

There are going to be four STAR WARS ships by years end that look like BSG ships and we can play with them to kind of have a BSG battle.

Real EASY.
