Defection of the Kuma [IC]

Raising his gaze from the datapad, Steneri looks at the Chief Engineer. "How about we do this right the first time and leave the jury-rigging for combat situations? I very much do not want to explode on my first trip on this 'lovely' vessel."

Shaking his head as he glances back down, Steneri sighs as he processes the conversation. These Hutts better be worth it. Going in half blind with limited functionality is not going to leave a good impression. Heck, it might even make trouble worse for us.

Sensing some potential tension between these two senior members of his crew Jack moves to quell any issues before they have a chance to come to head. "Elator, this guy is good, lets see what he finds... In the mean time tell me about our other major systems, Life Support, Engines, Power, Shields, Weapons. Are there any other 'rushed' jobs to fix those as well? Can the Pilots and I do anything to reduce the risk for further major faults like this one? and 'Docking for overhaul' is not an appropriate answer."

"At the moment, it looks like it's just the computer having problems and glitching, so expect some lag until we get this worked out. If we get this worked out. My biggest worry is that I don't have enough engineers to spot a problem if it does crop up. I've put everyone in engineering on longer shifts out of necessity, but it's taking its toll. Any help you can put on that front would be most appreciated," Elator answers.

As he finishes speaking, Morson's comlink chimes. It's Turandi: "Captain, we're ready to make the jump to hyperspace. Do you want me to start, or should we wait for you?"

"Make the jump." [hopefully] Jack thinks to himself, this ship just needs to get them through the next few weeks, then hopefully the Admiral will set things straight.

Turning to the Chief Engineer Jack softens his tone slightly "Ibindaro, the entire ship is on double duty at the moment, don't feel alone in your predicament. I'll look over the rosters and see if we can't spare a few more hands for you, after all none of us go anywhere if the Kuma breaks down."

With that Jack turns, calling over his shoulder as he departed "You know how to reach me" to both the boffins he was leaving to their job. But with Turandi having the piloting under control Jack felt no rush to return to the Bridge. [seems like a good time to have a look around, check these new crew are following protocol. But mostly I need to check in with Quimm, we have a decent assessment ahead of us, and running out of supplies would be embarrassing to say the least.] So Jack made his way through the ship, heading to the Quartermasters office via the scenic route, looking for sings of bad habits the new crew may have.

The recent hiccup with the power seemed to have thrown the crew into a flurry of activity. Several are startled by the sight of their Captain, but none seem to be doing anything they shouldn't be doing.

The quartermaster's office is relatively bland, just a small room attached to the much larger storage rooms and weapons depot. Other than a simple droid, Quimm is alone, and working at his terminal. "Captain!" He says with a salute, sounding as friendly as ever. "What can I do for you?"

Standing in the door Jack scans the room as he speaks "We have a bit of leg work ahead of us Quimm, a fair bit of jumping around, and probably a fight or two. We are short staffed and under repaired... How bad are supplies?"

Quimm rolls his shoulders. "I've heard all the horror stories on how little we've been given, Captain. You might be surprised to hear this, but we've been stocked to full standard capacity. Not as many specialty items for the crew, but Captain Giesse wasn't in the habit of authorizing much of that anyway, and I wasn't able to get a list for your approval in time. But no, they stocked us up as if we had a full complement. I guess guns and food supplies are cheaper to replace than other things."

Quimm looks sideways for a moment, the leans in, whispering conspiratorially: "To be honest, they could have shorted us on those E-11 rifles. Just about anything in the galaxy is more reliable and accurate than those things. Spitballers, for instance. Or bags of rocks."

He straightens up. "We can keep the crew well fed and healthy, if nothing else."

It's been about 18 hours since slipping into hyperspace, and the Kuma is now in the Teth system, quickly approaching the orbit of the planet with the same name. The bridge display shows the planet growing gradually closer, and soon a ship can be seen, moving into an intercept course. It's a Gladiator Star Destroyer.

"Incoming message," Midshipman Hax says.

"Unidentified vessel, this is Imperial GSD Hoplite, please identify yourself," a person says over the communicator.

"Transmitting IFF codes," Hax responds. A moment passes.

"Confirmed. Welcome to Teth, Kuma," the other person says. "Captain D'ambrosio would like to open communications with your captain, Kuma."

"Open the coms Hax, lets get this mission started properly."
