A clue to the quantity/quality of RWM background

By player1750031, in Runewars Miniatures Game

Hi guys, a bit of curious news/trivia regarding RWM.

There's been a lot of discussion regarding the amount of Terrinoth/Runiverse background that is currently avaialble and what is "needed" (you can't see me now, but I'm doing serious air-quote action) for a miniature game like Runewars Miniatures.

I came across an interesting bit of info today. After the game was unveiled at GenCon, Craig Gallant has revealed that he has been doing contracted writing specifically for Runewars Miniatures.

For those of you who are not familiar with the gentleman, Craig Gallant is a co-host of a long-running and popular general gaming podcast, The D6 Generation. Professionally, he's a teacher, but he also does part-time writing, having done several sci-fi novels, lots of short stories and a comicbook series. He has also done large chunks of commisioned fiction and background writing for FFG in the past, most notably for the Warhammer 40k RPG series.

You can check his stuff out on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Craig-Gallant/e/B00J3NJBXW

The significance of this being: the amount of background and/or fiction that's to accompany Runewars Miniatures is significant enough for FFG to commision an established, tried-and-true and tested outside author to write it.

Doesn't surprise me. Fully expecting a Worlds of book for Terrinoth

Indeed, they have said as much at the In-Flight Report and it will be awesome to get a huge hardback companion book.

However, my hope is that Mr. Gallant's involvement means a significant background content in the release box itself - either the rulebook having a relatively extensive background section a'la Games Workshop books or RPG manuals, or a separate, say 32-ish page, softback story booklet. Something more than a two-page introduction we got so far in Terrinoth games, to get the ball rolling before the Worlds book lands.

What a great bit of news! I've read some of Craig's novels based upon another game system and really enjoyed them. I'm hoping this means full length novels!

I have my doubts on an in box fluff book but maybe a simultaneous release or close on the heels.

The effort to develop a setting is understandable. You need a theme for players to find themselves in & it gives you the possibility to develop other games in the setting (at a later point...maybe). If they hired him for writing then we can be sure that there will be some fluff accompanying the rules. I mean that's the norm for any wargame today. Factions, background, rules, missions/scenarios, reff. table and supplements are a must in these kind of games.

That would be nice, maybe we will get to see some story lines finish up from Descent(I.E. Syndreal and Ashrian) or just a clear timeline of events.
