Fleet Officer: Can the ship give the focus to himself?

By Randito, in X-Wing Rules Questions

An Imperial ship with a "Fleet Officer" takes the action to give 2 friendly ships at range 1-2 a free focus token. Can the ship with the Fleet Officer give himself one of those tokens? Does "friendly ships" include the ship doing the action?

(dumb question, i know).

Yes, you may.

It only specifies up to 2 friendly ships at range 1 and 2.

A ship is friendly to itself.

A ship is at range 1 to itself. (FAQ page 19)

If the card had said "up to 2 other friendly ships" then it would not have been possible.

It's not a dumb question. It's better to ask the question and get an answer, than to play at a disadvantage because you were unsure of a certain rule or phrase.

And as Dagonet has pointed out, you can be at Range 1 of yourself and friendly to yourself. With abilities like these, the key words you need to look for are "another ship" or "other ship". If it doesn't tell you to choose "another" ship, you can choose yourself (the active ship).

Yep you're within range one of yourself so it's all good.
