Venting Frustration

By GreenLantern1138, in X-Wing

This habit that ffg have of announcing a pack three or four months in advance, and before already upcoming products have even been fully 'spoiled', is actually starting to irritate me a bit. It really feels to me that they care more about generating hype than delivering anything at this point. I realise that I am likely to be in the minority, and I am happy to wait for each update to come out, but I'm getting tired of being told what will come out way in the future while imminent updates have a tendency to be delayed.

I sorta agree that the wait times are long between announcement and release, but I guess I'm OK to know what's in the pipeline months in advance. And since I play for fun, I still have a lot of ships to try out for fun. For example, I still have yet to fly the Rebels much, and have decided that when HotR comes out, I'm going to defect to the Rebellion.

Consider it Jedi training. . .you must learn patience, my Padawan (and venting frustration is a whole lot better than venting to space). :D

These announcements are fun for players, but they're really to help build hype for the distributors who place the orders.

and the only thing they've compelled me to do is to stop making pre-orders with their products. -shrugs- maybe I'm an outlier or not part of their target market or whatever but if you want me to get excited about something 6 months in advance (and then finally deliver it 8 or 9 months instead) the delay is going to impact my level of enthusiasm and will be guaranteed to engage my cynical sarcasm generator involving any discussions of 'deadlines', 'shipping dates', or 'on-the-boat' statuses. Waiting nearly a year for the Imperial Raider was the worst. Right now there are so many ships up in the air between two anticipated waves I can't remember what they are, and I can hardly find the motivation to care. They'll get here when they get here.

I rather like how the recent wave of Armada was handled though. The flotillas were previewed like 6 months ago for 'wave 3' and the two large ships didn't preview until June/July for 'wave 4' and both waves hit the streets in August at the same time.

Video games. That is all.
