So now that we got pivot wings, How about some S-foils dual card actions?

By Marinealver, in X-Wing

Throwing out something real quick.

Dual Card X-wing, B-wing, Star Viper, ARC-170 only

S-foils Attack Position

Action: Flip this card over

When this side is flipped face up you may perform a free target lock action

S-foils: Closed

Action: Flip this card over

while this side is up treat your Firepower as 1 and add 1 to your agility. When you reveal a straight maneuver treat it as 1 speed higher. You cannot fire secondary weapons while this side is face up.

Comments, or do you got a better design?

NO.

The Viper's s-foils only close when landing, and the ARC's... are just there to look cool (Or possibly to diffuse heat during atmospheric combat). The B-wing's so-foils are also mostly for storage by the looks of things.

Lore aside, your idea doesn't really help the X-wing with what it actually needs (Better efficiency or a way to keep targets in arc).

The Viper's 'wings' are not the same idea as s-foils. The books describe each one as having a thruster on the tip (where autothrusters comes from), and each is constantly moving while in flight to get the ideal angles of thrust. Dash Rendar describes it as one of the most unsettling sights he's ever seen.

To my mind, it needs something like giving the SLAM action with the wings closed, and one free reroll while attacking with them open (four cannons with s-foil cooling is supposed to have a very fast cycle rate). They are already action-starved, so maybe you can flip it at the beginning of the activation phase. After moving seems like it would be too strong, so that might be the compromise without taking the actions.
