I run squadronless list. Most of my ships have 2 black dices. I decimate Rhymerball in two rounds. My coleague move his all squadrons (3 vic list) on the outskirs of boosted comms. I lost one Raider but parked my 4 raiders in front of it. In 4th activation all his squadrons where dead.

It is possible to play without sqadrons and be able to defeat them.

Three points:

1.) If you are able to fire back with your black anti squadron dice against Rhymer, he made an error.

2.) If he moved his squadrons out of his control range, he made an error.

3.) The only ships with two black anti squadron dice are the new MC80 Battle Cruiser and the Raider I (really limited choice).

So dont say it is possible to play without squadrons, when you only fought against someone who made some serrious errors playing with these.

You are not flying the bombers in, when there are ships left that can activate and get in range of the bombers. And especially not when there 4 Raiders left that can fly in range.

This is like saying: i can win with only one CR90 against a 1000 point list (when the opponent is flying his ships of the board).

While I certainly believe that squadronless fleets are viable (even against skilled players), I don't think that black-dice only fleet will cut it (and it certainly will not decimate a bomber fleet in two rounds unless opponent made a serious mistake and ended up in a range of at least two double-black-dice ships).

I finally got to see PT play and talked to him at length.

1) He plays very cleanly and clearly... meaning he tells you exactly what he is doing... he'd be great for giving demos or teaching folks how to play.

2) You may think he just aims pizzas to shove down your throat but there is a lot of thought behind his choices and he's willing to experiment with new things.

My list is for knife fight. Usually I lurk outside of blue range going on position to strike. To defend my fleet I use evade and brace tokens. This is hard to play like that but it pay off. For now I play 8 times wit this list scoring 2 loses and 6 wins

Use Ackbar and gunnery teams on AFs?

Therein lies the biggest flaw with ruthless strategist, no gunny teams.

I flew against a list before that had Jan and a bunch of MKIIs with Ruthless Strategist and Gallant Haven. It was the most pain my squadrons ever felt.

I ran a GSD with Ruthless, it was fantastic in the squadron matucups and terrible against screens. I opted for OE because that's good in every mathcup...

It might be worth trying a GSD II with Kallus as your extra AA. You add the Black at Medium for a 2 Blue 1 Black point defense against Rhymer/Imp hero Fireballs/Jan and if use Demo you can get another arc in. The advantage here is you can reroll the Black with OE.

Raiders are good against Rebel bombers but hard to work against a Fireball if you are not first player. And Goz/Demo MSU Fireballs can bid high.
