By Flengin, in Star Wars: Armada

City and country you play in: Fairfield/Bay Area, CA

When you played your first game: March 2017

When you started collecting: May 2016

How long you've been reading these forums: March 2017

What drew you in: Star Wars and big ships. I had a good friend who introduced me and I was hooked.

City and country you play in: Stafford, VA (just close enough to those NoVa peoples)

When you played your first game: As soon as it arrived in March 2015

When you started collecting: See above answer (I buy at least two of everything)

How long you've been reading these forums: Long enough

What drew you in: Saw an ad on BGG and liked the idea of the game (plus I like Star Wars). I knew nothing of FFG except Tide of Iron, saw an X-Wing Tie Fighter in the store once, thought "How cool, gotta buy a bunch of these!", then saw the price.

I currently own over 100 X-Wing ships...along with the huge Armada collection and Imperial Assault pile...I have issues...

City and country you play in: Ann Arbor, Mi (or close enough)

When you played your first game: July 2017

When you started collecting: June 2017

How long you've been reading these forums: August 2017

What drew you in: 1) Star Wars. 2) I would pass the ISD on my FLGS shelf about once a week and think "man, that thing would look awesome all lit up as a display piece" until one day I decided to buy one just to light it up. And then it DID look awesome. And then I decided I needed to get it on the table. So then I went and bought a core set and have half a dozen games.

City and country you play in: I live in Willard OH in the US, but when I play (any game really) it's in nearby Mansfield OH

When you played your first game: Of Armada, I haven't YET. In general, D&D at age 11 (I'm 39 now)

When you started collecting: Started collecting Star Wars in general in 1991. Started with FFG products in 2007-ish with the WoW board game

How long you've been reading these forums: Not long at all.

What drew you in: In between X-Wing, Imperial Assault, AND Rebellion (and working on Armada), it was time.

Anything else pertinent: That isn't already on my Facebook page, or my Instagram or Twitter, not really!

Speak for yourself! :D

I've been on the forums for a little bit over three months, so I should have done introductions earlier. So, here goes.

From Colstrip, MT (Little town in the middle of nowhere USA), but do regularly travel to the nearest city (Billings) to play Armada every so often. Missed the store championship, which was a little saddening...

Anyway, I started playing about a year ago. I wanted to get into the game when it first came out, but X-wing was taking up my gaming budget at the time (About 4-1 X-wing to Armada players in my area), but finally set aside a few hundred and jumped right in. First game was a bit interesting, being a 400 point battle on a 3x3 board. My opponent, who was fielding an Imp II and Vic II, won the engagement due to board control. Still, it was fun enough to keep playing. My collection now has a minimum 2x of each expansion, with the exception being Wave 6. The problem with having to supply everything for a gaming group...

I was drawn to Armada the first time I saw its announcement. I grew up watching the Star Wars films, and reading the Legends novels so I wanted a game that could represent the big fight. I like X-wing, but each loss being just a single fighter didn't have the same impact of losing a massive starship representing an investment of millions of credits and thousands of lives. Each game tells a story, which can either end in victory or defeat. That's why Armada is fun to me. It's a game about trying to make the best decision when dozens are presented. Plus, it doesn't have those fickle green defense dice haha.

Started Summer of 2016

Browsed the forums before hand to get a feel for what to buy

Was drawn in by the dark age of X-wing, and by the scale of Armada

City and country you play in: Southern West Virginia (Beckley)

When you played your first game: August 9th

When you started collecting: July 2017

How long you've been reading these forums: Since roughly May 2017, first post was today 8/15/17.

What drew you in: A friend from highschool sent me a link to the 2016 World Championships, I never knew the game existed. I've always been a huge Star Wars fan, and love any sort of strategy.

I've only played 2 games so far. Sadly the nearest LGS that hosts is over an hour away and with work, wife with twins on the way, I can't really afford to spend 10 hours a week to go gaming. I'm trying to get the nearest LGS to pick up on SW:A and there are a few people interested but most are scared away by the cost investment to keep up to date. I've looked into Vassal and actually contacted someone on the forums today for help in getting it up and running. Hoping I can get going on that to keep me playing and then hopefully next year get into the store championships.

Well, I've been away for a while.

Now I'm back.

I see a lot of new faces I don't recognize (people have been breaking the first two rules of Fight Ships!!!)

Soooo.....

NECRO POWERS!!!!!

Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.

First game: Late 2016

Started collecting: Bought the Core Set last year so that I could play in a store tourney.

How long reading the forums: Early 2017

What drew me in: I knew that it was a game my friends were playing, and I felt left out. One day as I was hanging out with my friend who owned the game, I asked if he could teach me, and he did. We played about half the game that day, and half the game another day. A few months later, after my friend had gotten the CC for Christmas, he and another friend asked if I wanted to join their six-person campaign. I did, and that's when I started reading the forums and the blogs in order to really learn the game.

I've always liked the Star Wars movies, but I'm definitely not as much of a fan as many of the people here. Had no idea what an AFMKII or GSD was, or who Thrawn or Toryn Farr were, before playing this game. I still don't know much, actually.

I love the game mainly for how it good it is to play, not because "I've always wanted to play this character."
