Calling all new forum posters!

By Flengin, in Star Wars: Armada

I'm not new, but I've seen a lot of our locals or people in our area join the forums over the past few months, and I want to encourage them to step forward:

Location: California, San Francisco Bay Area
Started Collecting: May 4th, 2015 (2 core sets)
First Game: Memorial Day Weekend, 2015
First tournament game: Massing at Sullust, 2015
How long on the forums: Approximately October 2015

As a kid, I got hooked on the X-Wing book series. I tried getting into X-Wing, but perversely there weren't any players in my area for a prolonged period after the game launched. When I heard that there was an upcoming Star Wars game that focused on the big ships, I was immediately sold, but I didn't realize how well.

I used to play Warhammer 40k with a group of players that mostly focused on competitive events. This taught me the critical importance of upgrade selection, cost-efficiency, and how to make the most out of "sub-par" units with unique and highly dangerous abilities. My game style in many systems focuses on trick plays and careful positioning to suddenly reverse the fortunes of opponents. Oh, and in 40k? Yeah, i was handily the worst player in the group for years.

Likes: Friendly games where both players are trying to win by any means necessary. Players who play to win, even when they've lost. Players who think "I could have won that if only I'd done X instead." Players who ask honest questions and give honest opinions.

Dislikes: Players who have lost without putting up a fight. Players who don't at least try to play for the moral victory when they realize they are not going to win the game. Players without a sense of humor.

City and country you play in: Windsor Canada

When you played your first game: April 2017

When you started collecting: April 2017

How long you've been reading these forums: 6 months (been on the X-wing Forums)

What drew you in: X-wing

Bumping this because there's a lot of new faces around lately thought they might like to introduce themselves. This is the thread that got me started posting on here. Now anybody who wishes I'd just shut up sometimes knows it's really all @Flengin 's fault. Welcome to Armada and these forums hope you all have as much fun being adults playing with toys as I do.

A few friendly pointers

1. Admiral Nelson is a legend if you haven't read his posts they are SOOOOO good.

2. Crutches.

3. Never trust Ben.

4. RuneWars reigns supreme.

5. AT-DP is not as dirty here as it is elsewhere on the internet.

Location: North Eastern Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire Boston suburbs.

First game: Playing my daughter in August 2016, my first game VS an adult was July 2017.

Started Collecting: August 2016

How Long reading the forums: Since August 2016 although I did get into SW Destiny too and was pretty focused on that for a bit.

What drew me in: I have been a SW fan since 1977 when I was 8 years old, seeing SW on the big screen durring the furvor of the original release made a huge impression on me. I cannot say I am a "Gamer". I never played many games more complicated then Risk or Monopoly before getting into Armada. I did pick Armada over X-Wing primarily because of the ISD. I just couldn't go for a starfighter game after seeing it. I love everything about Armada.

I played in my first tournament about a week ago, I didn't do great but I had a blast and can't wait to find more games. Unfortunately there are not any regular play groups in the area but I do have 2 friends that play and we play casually when we can. I also have 2 other friends that are interested in trying it out and I am trying to set up times to play with them.

I do own at least 1 of everything and multiples of most Squad packs and a few Ships. I thought Armada was expensive (and it is) until I got into Destiny. I love Destiny too but you can't put a bunch of dice on display in your game room.

City and country you play in: St. Louis Mo United States

When you played your first game: January 2017, probably the 9th ish(right after that wave and the campaign came out)

When you started collecting: January 2016. I was collecting the ships for nearly a year beforehand because i was interested in playing but never found a group

How long you've been reading these forums: April or mayish

What drew you in: I've played tabletop war games since 2003(40k). in 2014 7th edition dropped and that killed 40k for me so i went to WMH. the community in STL is all based around 1 store, go outside of that and it's pretty meh. i started playing xwing in 2016 but was eyeing armada so i started collecting ships for it the same time and i burned out hard on xwing with the near constant releases and, what i view as, insane power creep so i finally tried armada out. I've loved it since.

Location: San Antonio, Texas

First game: July 2017

Started collecting: August 2017

Began reading the forums: around May or June 2017

The thing that drew me in was actually playing X-wing. I loved it, so I thought I would look into some of FFG's other games. Now I'm here.

Seen SOO many new faces lately, especially in fleet builds. Been a lot of new folks on vassal as well, there's been a crowd every day during the European evening hours.

Hopefully lots of those people make it here to say hey!

We don't bite, we promise

Location: Hamburg, Germany + Vassal

First game: Tuesday

Started collecting: This month

Began reading the forums: September 2016 (X-Wing), last month (Armada)

What drew me in: X-Wing fatigue and the need for more Star Wars. I read four of the newer books recently and that left me with a burning hunger for more pew pew. Then I saw that nice Battle of Scarif again... and what can I say, X-Wing wasn't the solution so here I am.

I guess I haven't officially done this yet.

Location: Orange County, California. I play at Dice House Games in Fullerton mostly.

First game: February 2017

Started collecting: January 2016 (I got the base game very cheap that Christmas, but didn't find dependable people to play with until much later)

Began reading the forums: February 2017

The thing that drew me in: I used to play Warhammer Fantasy, especially 6th edition, and I love the big battles of huge armies, and epic fleet engagements are a pretty good substitute. That and my favorite part of any Star Wars movie is the Battle of Endor.

Ha! I'd been thinking the same thing but didn't want to necro my own thread (more than once every 6 months :P ). So thanks for doing it for me!

Chance of us knowing each other extremely high as that (and realm) are my normal go to's! ... Are you in the dice house private facebook message?

Location: Nuremberg, Germany + Vassal

First game: long time ago ... somewhere 2015

Started collecting: around that time (Rebs only)

Began reading the forums: sometime in 2016

What drew me in: my former X-Wing group being to competition focused, it was all about maxing out the odds. Armada (wave 2) was fresh and new and all fun ... which did not change much :-)
Since I do not find enough time for real life games, I can be found often on vassal during the evening hours.

Okay, I think it's time I did that

Location: Uk, only play on Vassal tho :(

First game: Not quite sure but I believe it was 2 months before the Vassal Freshman tournament ( @Green Knight when was that?). First real game was on the Freshman tournament

Started collecting: Haven't yet... thus why I'm only on Vassal... missing the money...

Began reading the forums: January, although wanted to play armada since it came out

What drew me in: I love space engagements in Star Wars, and this offered this aspect as well as a game of strategic warfare, it was love at first sight

Speak for yourself. Biting, scratching, hair pulling. Nothing is beneath me.

It took me forever to find it. The search tool on here is so bad. I eventually googled FFG Flengin calling and it popped right up.

Location: Metro Detroit

First game: December 2016

Started collecting: November 2016

Began reading the forums: Maybe March 2017? I started on Reddit and that may have been a mistake.

What drew me in: I got burnt out on X wing after regionals and was looking for a change and found a great and active community and have been playing ever since.

Not new, but think I haven't done this.

location, Ft. Myers, Florida

first game, around a week after original release

started collecting, right after first game (two core sets)

first tourney, a bit after release at the local store (Louisville KY at the time)

been in forums since shortly after starting, I think. Used to be a GW outrider, played 40k, Warhammer, Battlefleet Gothic, Warmachine....ditched it all for Xwing and Armada, altough I stopped Xwing once it started getting a bit silly.

I played WHFB 2nd and 3rd edition. Now runewars scratches that itch for me. FFG owns my wallet.

Ha! I definitely am. This is Eric C, and who are you?

I never saw this until today even though I've been into Armada and this section of the forums for a few months. I guess my turn

Location: Metro Detroit Area, MI.

First game: January/February 2017

Started collecting: February 2017

How long reading the forums: February 2017

What drew me in: It's Star Wars mainly. I was already into X-Wing and there were a few people in my local area that wanted to grow their community of players which sounded like fun. Plus it's with Capital Ships and X-Wing didn't scratch that space ship itch I have. I'm a sucker for spaceships......SPACESHIPS!

Matt M! Hah awesome!

Started Reading Forums: July 2017 (I'm oblivious apparently. But active on r/StarWarsArmada since Fettbruary 2017)

What got me into it: Star Wars + capital ship combat + being an admiral = I NEED THIS GAME
