Calling all new forum posters!

By Flengin, in Star Wars: Armada

I've been posting for a while, but have never introduced myself. And I don't have a fancy picture next to my name...

Location: wherever the army sends me. Currently Missouri. Georgia, New York, and North Carolina in years past, and Texas to come.

Age: in my 20s

Started collecting: Christmas, 2015, where I also played my first, very disorderly game with nowhere near the actual conception of the rules I have now, and I'm still learning about stuff I've been doing wrong, little by little. But I really appreciate the nuances of the game.

Started reading forums: January, with first post probably around February.

The draw: I've never played miniatures games like this before, so really it's just my love of Star Wars that got me to swallow the huge buy in (or rather to ask someone else to swallow it for a Christmas gift). But now that I've taken the gateway drug, I've realized that I've been missing out on miniatures. I've got at least one of everything, doubles of most smaller ships and squadrons. And close to 50 lists on Warlords. So yeah, gateway drug. Thinking about starting to paint.

Viva la Rebellion!

Hi all

I have been lurking around for a while now reading threads, and looking at your awesome paint jobs. I am a lifelong Star Wars fan, love to paint/model, and so was naturally drawn to this game. I am from Manchester in the UK, and only recently acquired the game (plus most of waves 1 & 2 as I just couldn't wait to paint them!). Not yet played a game, but looking to get stuck in soon hopefully.

Regards, Dedz

Looking forward to some awesome new repaint stuff to come!

First game: Uh, I don't remember. March 2016?
Started collecting: Also don't remember. March 2016?
How long reading the forums: Been reading since I got into the game
What drew me in: Always loved Star Wars and the fleet scale. My friend said he'd jump in with me and away we went

I wasn't aware that there was an "introduce yourself" thread.

Hi. I'm FoaS. In my real life I'm a programmer living in central nj, soon to be northern nj. I'm a craft beer and mead snob, but definitely not a hipster. i also do some 3D design as a hobby, but I've only started getting halfway decent.

in the Armada world, I built and continue to run Kuat Drive Yards, your friendly custom card creator, with the help of some other folks on here.

we're always looking for more members and fan made content should you be inclined to stop by.

My first game was at a local gaming con.

I started collecting about 10 minutes after i lost my first game and I've not looked back.

I got hooked because this was the first game i felt was tactically engaging enough for me since Star Fleet Battles.

I've been lurking for maybe a year, so figure I should give this a go:

City and country you play in: Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
When you played your first game: About a year ago, after buying the core set
When you started collecting: Same week as my first game. It's been a slow and steady approach to adding ships.
How long you've been reading these forums: Since July 2015 maybe. Daily.
What drew you in: The Star Wars theme and beautiful minis. Never played a miniatures game before, but decided to get into Armada as it was newer and therefore less intimidating. And the maneuver tool was just so neat.
Anything else pertinent: I went months without playing late in 2015 and early 2016--so frustrating (this was before I realized that the FLGS was a good place to find people to play with...). I finally decided to create an opponent, and taught my buddy to play. He loved it, and soon had a larger collection than me. We play about once a week now, and keep track of our matches in a Google spreadsheet. Turns out we both play Imperials better than Rebs.

I wasn't aware that I need to introduce myself, but hi, I'm Stacey!

Things to include:

City and country you play in: Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

When you played your first game: About a month ago

When you started collecting: About a month ago

How long you've been reading these forums: Since April 2016. I have been lurking on the forums, and watching some of the games on Vassal. Mostly the ones where my friend played.

What drew you in: My friend in real time (PT106) who talks a lot about Armada, and who was sure that I would love it, so eventually I decided to try. Then he persuaded me to participate in a narrative last week as an imperial, gave me ships, built my fleets, and now I am hooked. :)

Anything else pertinent: I play an Imperial, as strange as it seems for me. Apparently, cookies work. :) Also, I love board games, and have a lot of them at home.

Hi Stacey! It was great meeting you and seeing PT again in Nova!

I saw some ships in a store some months ago and wanted to know more about this game so I looked videos on youtube and read a lot about Armada to see if I would like it and it seemed to be a very fun game with a lot of strategy, which is something I like very much. And also I love the models, I had them decorating my room :P

Played my first game sometime in March

Started collecting shortly after that. Got some great swag from a store championship right off the bat to start with my collection.

Been reading the forums since....February 2016? Or so?

Honestly, what started me down this path was SU&SD's Let's Play of Armada. I religiously follow them for board game news and stumbled across their lets play from a few years ago and became very interested....reading the rules and an intro game later, I became absolutely addicted to the game. I love playing just to play, win or lose, but I also love playing competitively for the alt art, which I absolutely love as well. And plus its Star Wars. Which drew me in. And its extremely tactical. Which drew me in. And the models look great. Which drew me in.....

Also, as someone in their early 20's, I feel extremely young in the community for this game....So yes Dras, I am a young Whippersnapper! And proud of it!

Well this wouldn't be a problem if people WOULD JUST OBEY THE FIRST TWO RULES OF ARMADA CLUB....I mean fight ships...I mean...ah whatever...

In the current flavour of necro threads....actually, this may be relevant as I've seen a lot more new faces around recently.

When you played your first game: June 2015.

When you started collecting. June 2015. I got the game for Father's day. Fund it for $67 on eBay.

How long you've been reading these forums. 3 or 4 months I think.

What drew you in: I had star wars starship battles back when Wizards of the coast put that of the shelves. As everyone thought, the rules were horribly simple and I made my own. I got into xwings after playing the core set with a friend. It was so fun, I sold my starships battle stuff for more xwings stuff. When I heard about armada I wanted it. I love the fleet combat.

Anything else pertinent. I like long flights in the astroid fields and my favorite food is roasted gundarks.

Start of Wave 2 (can't remember when) for collecting and playing (which I don't get to do a lot)

Reading the forums since I started.

Star Wars, come on do you need another reason (plus needed to get away from GW, made my Wood Elves of 20 years collection useless overnight)

Joensuu, Finland.

I'd been eyeing the game for most of last autumn and finally bought into it in December 2016. That must've been around the time I started reading the forums as well.

I'm actually not the biggest Star Wars fan in the world – I enjoy it, but I didn't happen to grow up with it so I don't have the nostalgia. I got more into it in the past two years thanks to Imperial Assault and the new movies, but I don't think I even really knew any of the ship names (apart from the words 'star destroyer') before getting into Armada. What really drew me in was the mechanics, particularly how movement works, and how cool it looked on the table. Now I've spent the past few months obsessing over it, even though I don't actually get to play very much.
