Calling all new forum posters!

By Flengin, in Star Wars: Armada

Look around, we're lookin' round, see a lot of new faces.

Which means a lot of people have been breaking the first two rules of Armada!

Anyway, if you're new to these forums (read: made your first post in the last month), here's a chance to introduce yourself and let us know a little about yourselves.

Things to include:

City and country you play in.

When you played your first game.

When you started collecting.

How long you've been reading these forums.

What drew you in.

Anything else pertinent.

I'll start.

Location: Lismore, Australia.

First game: January 2016

Started collecting: March (my birthday)

How long reading the forums: February

What drew me in: I'm a Warhammer Fantasy Refugee. It plays very similar without WHF's weaknesses.

Then I broke that rule, I honestly think putting something the scale of an SSD in the game would break it. Unless the Rebels get a special rule allowing them to ram an A-wing squadron into the bridge to defeat it.

First game was October 2015

Started collection April(?) 2015

Started reading the forums shortly after.

What drew me in was it's Star Wars, and I'm big fan of space combat games (BFG Never Forget!)

I believe both rules are "never tell me the odds"

We still don't have Piett. So...

Well this topic devolved rapidly.

First game: may 2015

Just as long on the forums but finally started posting this year.

Reasons: it's star wars.

Long live the empire

Location: Quebec City

First game: July 2016

Started collecting in may, but my stupid work schedule kept me from playing games until this summer.

I've been checking the forums since in April when I first thought of playing the game

I had this game in my radar as soon as it got announced, but I already backed Golem Arcana and Cthulhu Wars back then, and both games combined for a total of what, 1500$? That was already a crap ton of money.

Golem Arcana failed to deliver (well, HBS failed to support their product, because the game was very decent) and Cthulhu Wars, while being excellent, was just not a minis game per say, more of a deluxe boardgame with awesome figurines. Warhammer 40k looked very interesting, but required painting and probably even more money than I wanted to spend. Plus the whole Star Wars theme reminiscence me of the old Tie-Fighter game on PC.

First game: TBD

Been collecting since wave 1 but there isn't a whole lot of people at my FLGS that play. More of an x-wing crowd. Got a couple guys interested but working nights makes it hard to get to game nights.

Reasons: Love space combat in general and star wars just makes it sweeter.

Location -Bristol uk

First game - around March time

When started collecting - bought everything available after first game had played xwing and enjoyed the game play, I already knew I would buy as I'm a massive fan of Babylon wars and battle fleet gothic although very limited play of both.

How long have I been reading the forums - a couple of weeks

Plus the whole Star Wars theme reminiscence me of the old Tie-Fighter game on PC.

Oh, yeah! That was a big one for me as well. TIE fighter was a great game. And every time the capitals duked it out, it just felt that much more epic. I guess remembering that feeling was another thing that got me into this game.

Location: Budapest, Hungary

First game: July 2016

Started collecting: July 2016 - went back to the store next week I first tried it

How long reading the forums: July 2016 - I always was an internet-community guy :P

What drew me in: 1. Star Wars. 2. Board game. 3. Can direct an ISD around :D

Anything else: My favorite Armada moment was when I went to the local store to purchase the wave 3 ships. The seller saw from my membership card how much I spent on Armada recently and sold me the two wave 4 ships from under the table - which were then still unavailable in the store (in any retail shop in Hungary I think) for the next two more weeks.

Szia!

I lived in Budapest for a couple years but, sadly, all I learned of Hungarian was how to order beer and a few other things. :D

Anywho,

I'm from Croatia, Opatija to be exact. Got the Core from my brother for Xmas and started collecting from there.

There's no real community in my neck of the woods, just a buddy of mine and I who play plus another two players in the neighboring city.

But, we play regularly and with luuutz of points to spare. Our typical game is 600-700 points, but I think we'll up it to a thousand after Wave 5.

We don't do tournaments so we like the cinematic feel. I never leave home without at least two ISDs + a dozen fighters :)

That's awesome! The store owners here are also big Armada fans as well. They organize tournaments on a pretty regular basis and there's always 8-10 people showing up. Not bad for a city not yet reaching a million persons.

Age 50

Saw the first Starwars May 1977, and been hooked since. Collect and play both X-wing and Armada

Not into tournament scene but love huge games. Avid modeler since age 8. Currently building items for Armada

And an active board gamer.( historical and sci-fi since) age 8 when I learned to play chess.

Since I am in college now little time to get a FTF game but check out the forums to see what is going on.

War games designed around large scale battles are my bread and butter, and I really enjoy the challenge they bring

Location: Guthrie, Oklahoma, USA

First game: February 2016

Started collecting: August 2015

Started reading the forums (anonymously): January 2016

What drew me in: My love for both Star Wars and battlefield tactics

I have never enjoyed a game, whether it be tabletop or PC, as much as I enjoy Armada. My dreams usually consist of tactical and/or strategic simulations, and I have loved Star Wars since I saw Episode IV at age 6. Armada puts the two together so beautifully that I find it hard to look away! As the Rebel Alliance, I have suffered two very informative defeats and one decisive victory; I intend to keep learning, and master the Rebel fleet before switching to the Empire.

Good lord, I must be the biggest nerd in this town.

I've been posting for a while, but have never introduced myself. And I don't have a fancy picture next to my name...

Location: wherever the army sends me. Currently Missouri. Georgia, New York, and North Carolina in years past, and Texas to come.

Age: in my 20s

Started collecting: Christmas, 2015, where I also played my first, very disorderly game with nowhere near the actual conception of the rules I have now, and I'm still learning about stuff I've been doing wrong, little by little. But I really appreciate the nuances of the game.

Started reading forums: January, with first post probably around February.

The draw: I've never played miniatures games like this before, so really it's just my love of Star Wars that got me to swallow the huge buy in (or rather to ask someone else to swallow it for a Christmas gift). But now that I've taken the gateway drug, I've realized that I've been missing out on miniatures. I've got at least one of everything, doubles of most smaller ships and squadrons. And close to 50 lists on Warlords. So yeah, gateway drug. Thinking about starting to paint.

Viva la Rebellion!

What drew me in: Started FFG games when descent 1st edition came out. Star Wars since 1981.

Hi all

I have been lurking around for a while now reading threads, and looking at your awesome paint jobs. I am a lifelong Star Wars fan, love to paint/model, and so was naturally drawn to this game. I am from Manchester in the UK, and only recently acquired the game (plus most of waves 1 & 2 as I just couldn't wait to paint them!). Not yet played a game, but looking to get stuck in soon hopefully.
