Beginner fleet - advice/critisme wanted

By Messi22, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hi

So I'm new to Star Wars Armada and I've only been playing the Core Set with my older Brother. But now we have also bought one more Victory-class Star Destroyer, CR90 Corellian Corvette and Nebulon-B Frigate plus Rebel and Imperial Fighter Squadrons.

We are running some 300 point games against each other where our last game was Mine Fields. My Fleet was as follows:

Admiral Motti (24)

Ships:

Victory II-class Star Destroyer (85)

- Flight Controllers (6)

- Overload Pulse (8)

- Expanded Hangar Bay (5)

- Gunnery Team (7)

- H9 Turbolasers (8)

Victory I-class Star Destroyer (73)

Squadrons:

TIE Fighter Squadron (8*3)

TIE Bomber Squadron (9*2)

TIE Advanced Squadron (12*1)

Soontier Fel (18)

Howlrunner (16)

Total: 297

What I really want to know is how do you place your ships as empire on the large map? This is what really bothers me, because I had a slim victory where I rushed the x and y wings with my squadrons hoping that I could lure the rebel ships. Instead the rebel scum went full speed on both his Corvettes and Nebulons to get behind me where I ended up losing one of my victory classes.

Please tell me what are basic empire strategies, how do we use our ships to crush the rebels and furthermore what would be the most optimal setup for me?

Basic empire tactics with victories either use Rhymer ball to hit the enemy from far away, use an interdictor cruiser to restrict enemy movement, or make healthy use of navigation commands to keep the enemy in your front arc.

Running just Victories, you're probably going to get outmaneuvered a lot. If you play minefields again, try to block off a large section of the board to limit the rebels ability to maneuver. Try setting up in a corner so they don't have a ton of space to get around you and move forward veeery slowly, letting them come to you rather than try to chase them around. Give Major Rhymer a try too, and use him to create a large area that you threaten.

So you have a flanking issue due to your lack of maneuvrrability.

Combine Rhymer, boosted comms and as many bombers/squads as you can muster. Now you have a mobile medium range flanking threat of your own. OMnomnom

For most empire builds you want to be going speed 2 at first, then drop to speed 1 once you are in range of the enemy. That is the best way to ensure several turns in the front arc.

ESPECIALLY in victories navigate commands are your friend for the extra yaw value.

Thanks for all the advice guys it was really good!!
