Kayn Somos and Advance Comms

def targeting computer over RBF if your running e- heavies. reroll on heavy out ways the extra card. crap rolls lose games much faster then that extra cmd card.

if no heavies after zillo you only have RBF. The rest ain't even really an option for 1 point or jus run 39points and always go second. lol

I've noticed a heap of Imp players swear by Rule by fear? I don't get that choice at all, to me a whole point for an extra card just isn't great. What am i missing with this one?

Xilo technique I totally get, it can allow you to save a trooper etc. but the rest?

What you might be missing is the fact that you're not only getting an extra card. You're also going through five cards, a third of your deck, before the game even starts. If you pull Planning in that five, you can go through seven as soon as your first activation and that's almost half of your deck. Suddenly, the odds of getting exactly the card you need at the moment - a Timely Take Initiative, Negation, Reinforcements, Grenadier, etc - just shot up tremendously. It's not just the card draw, it's the cycling through the deck that makes it powerful.

In the Trooper list I built recently I have Rule by Fear, Planning, Strategic Shift and Espionage Mastery with Blaise. I usually go through most of my cards in a game and regularly finish matches with just 1-2 cards left in the deck. The card advantage is really, really powerful. Even more so when combined with Zillo.

Ugh I need to check this forum more often, I decided that I was going to attempt to win the Kayn Somos Alt art card today by playing Kayn Somos, and didn't look here for ideas. I spent the past 3 days building lists with Somos and Advanced Comms. I got 2nd place which was just good enough to get the card, but I feel like the list could have done a little bit better. I ended up playing:

Kayn Somos
Advanced Comms
2x Elite Stormtroopers
1x Cross Training
Agent Blaise
2 Officers

Rally the troops
New Orders
2x Reinforcements
Comms Disruption
Intelligence Leak
Negation
Change of Plans

Element of Surprise
Planning

Urgency
Take Initiative
Of no Importance
Harsh Environment

Espionage Mastery

Pros:
+6 activations

+Lots of ways to reactivate the storm troopers
+3 Traits that all stack well together Trooper/Leader/Spy
+2 Officers to get people into position

Cons:

-No Zillo/Rule by Fear
-I constantly felt that I didn't have enough figures for fighting, despite having 8 fighters on the board.
-In order to effectively use Blaise for an interrogate discard I had to drop something amazing.
-Didn't end up fighting many white dice so Harsh Environment wasn't great.
-No grenade, especially since my opponents kept giving me wonderful bunches of figures.

Overall I chose this list vs other variations because it had 2 officers instead of 1 and 6 activations with 2 spies. I could see dropping Blaise for some regular Stormies(I actually love these guys), and dropping an officer to get zillo and another Cross Training.


As for the rest of the Thread:
Don has the idea behind using Rule by fear in competitive games. Especially since most games only go 3-4 rounds before time. I used to be firmly in the camp that 2 E.Officers were always better than Kayn, but Advanced Comms now lets him be more flexible. Today's games really changed my mind on that point, especially with the long range shots that were hitting people. His command card and the long range focusing shots, almost offset the 1 extra cost and 1 less activation.
