Multiple Tractor Beams, One Target

By Oden Gebhac, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I did some search-fu but have yet to come across something that answers this question: What is the effect of multiple tractor beams on one target?

My initial adjudication is this: The Tractor # quality sets the difficulty of the Piloting Check to escape the tractor beam. With multiple beams on one target, the highest rating is the initial difficulty with each additional beam upgrading the difficulty once.

Is this a solid way to go or is it too much? And has anyone thought of something else?

If you're allowing multiple beams to land on a single target in the first place, this would seem a reasonable ruling. It does assume the target has already been hit/ensnared by the original beam. If you did allow two sequential tractor "hits", there would also be a case for simply requiring that each be escaped in sequence. (Normal roll to escape Tractor 1, followed by Normal Roll to escape Tractor 2.)

So, basically:

Option 1: Combined, "upgraded" difficulty roll to escape 2+ beams

Option 2: 2+ "normal" rolls (determined by tractor quality) to sequentially escape all beams

I got a related question about Tractor Beams...

So the Victory Class Star Destroyer has the Tractor 6 quality, meaning the piloting check to escape said tractor beam is 6 difficulty.

I thought I read somewhere that the max difficulty of anything is 5 purple and after that point you start upgrading the dice to reds and require the player to flip a destiny point to even attempt it.

Would that mean my pilot needs to flip a point and roll against RPPPP?

I believe Tractor 6 imposes an Impossible difficulty, which still 5 purple but the PCs are forced to spend a Destiny Point to even attempt the check and they do not get the upgrade. Page 25 of AoR, Page 18 of EotE.

I think Tractor 6 is meant to be on the level of the Death Star tractor beam in A New Hope, which required a short mission to disable said tractor beam.

Tractor 6 is a difficulty of 6 purple dice. It really is that simple, and it's one of the few cases where Difficulty can go above 5 without the funky "Impossible" rules being invoked (another is a resisted test against somebody with a Characteristic of 6).
