How long does it take you to play now?

By Marshallmanna, in Star Wars: Rebellion

A friend and I have played 14 times now. We just played this last saturday and sunday. We complete a game in about 2.5 hours not including set up time. Rebel have won 8 of 14.

I've played about 10+ games, and we still take about 3 hours....the game gets really intense as we try not to fudge it up.

We've had many games where we misplay terribly and end up losing the game because of it, so we try to think things through and end up still taking 3 hours to play.

It is a 3 hour game for me every time. Generally, we call it at the 2 and a half hour mark because by then we "know" who is going to win.

Kind of like how we see the Rebels win the Battle of Endor, and while we don't actually witness the occupation of Coruscant and liberation of the galaxy, we're able to assume pretty much what happens.

Every game I've played ends (or will end) between the 6th and the 8th round. I think we've only played out the last round once. If the Rebels only need a point or two and the Empire has no way of getting to the base.... game over. If the Rebels are not within 3 points of winning and the Empire is about to smash the base... Game over. This tends to be what the last round looks like.

This is not to say the game was not close up to the second to last round. Generally, some event happens the seals victory (or defeat) for one of the teams in that second to last round. Perhaps the Rebels lost the battle of Yavin or the Empire did not crush the Rebellion at Hoth. No mater what, the game always feels like a re-telling of the original trilogy.

Our first 2 plays took forever. Like days, but only because we started late in the evening. I think the refresh phase isn't that all intuitive. We kept having to constantly look stuff up trying to play flawless as possible. The third time we played right after our second time and the game was 3 or 4 hours and I expect it to improve if we can play again soon. It was a lot of fun and I do see that the only problem I can see with this game is that the empire can't possibly find the rebel base before time is up. Then again... maybe the empire player needs to be more aggressive.
