One ship, 29 points, no named pilots or large based ships. Help me decide between a few options?

By joyrock, in X-Wing

These are what I'm thinking:

http://geordanr.github.io/xwing/?f=Galactic%20Empire&d=v4!s!165:18,73:27:1:;58:18:5:17:M.1;68:-1,-1:33:17:;191:98,-1,-1,-1,-1,-1:35:17:u.46,u.102&sn=Possible%20ships

I'm thinking the TAP is the best option, though the Bomber sounds stupidly fun. The Bomber can also run Juke, which would give it much more offensive potential, but that leaves it much more frail against incoming attacks. Really not a huge fan of the Interceptor build, but didn't see another worthwhile option, although IIRC 6 is the highest pilot skill of any generic pilot available.

Tie Defender. In limited match-ups, you will be hard pressed to beat 6 health behind 3 Agility and near-permanent Evade + Focus.

Personally, I'd go with the RGP. I might consider AT+TC over SD+Mk2 though. At PS6, you're almost guaranteed to be the last one moving, only if someone slaps VI on a Bomber or something could they surpass you... Without knowing the format (is it a furball, one on one, etc) that could change my choice. One on one, I'd probably go with ATs and a 2 point init bid to ensure you move last. Furball, I might go with the Defender instead since there are going to be lots of ships shooting.

This type of format is best with a couple additional rules:

1) All unique cards are banned. (Otherwise we end up seeing Lone Wolf, R2D2, etc. Incidentally, this rule covers "generic pilots only").

2) Any pilot of PS3 or higher may purchase an EPT slot for 1 pt if they do not already have an EPT slot.

3) Any pilot can spend 2pts to increase their PS by 1. This PS increase may be purchased multiple times.

By doing this, there is no "PS Cap", so all those Royal Guard pilots who expect to be Soontir at the top of the food chain will have to think again. It opens up a ton of interesting options, 'cause that one guy is gonna bring a PS7 Y-Wing with an autoblaster turret and smack all those imperials out of the sky. Now suddenly you have to decide how much you're going to invest in your pilot skill versus being a well rounded ship and pilot.

tie-interceptor

Delta fo sho.

29 Royal Guard Pilot

Storm — TIE Advanced 23, Expert Handling 2, Accuracy Corrector 0, Engine Upgrade 4,TIE/x1 0
Ship Total: 29

(Expert is if you can use a EPT FYI, if not take some tracer threads)

Delta or RGP are the dominant options here.

Delta x7!

Delta x7 with TIE Mk II. definitely. Can easily hold its own in a 1v1.

Tie Defender. In limited match-ups, you will be hard pressed to beat 6 health behind 3 Agility and near-permanent Evade + Focus.

Yep he's right 28 point delta x7 is where it's at.

And don't forget that white K-turn for 1v1 matchups. As much as I want to say the RGP Interceptor, the Defender wins it both for furballs (highest defense) and 1v1.

Still gonna be Palp Shuttle.

Deathfire

Extra munitions

Proton torps

Conner nets

Guidance chips

2 points spare

I have had so much fun with this build.

Rules stipulated no named pilots.

Good times.

Ooopps

Thug, ABT, Painbot, vectored thrusters, bomb load out, Conner net

Still gonna be Palp Shuttle.

NO large based ships.

The idea is interesting.

But: I would maybe allow some of the titles, like e.g. Moldy Crow and MistHunter. Otherwise ships like these probably will not turn up.

I have been in something like this before, but pretty much to makes things clear the rules stated no contracted scouts, because we all know they are BS.

Was No named pilots, no unique cards

No Contracted scouts, they were going to say no big based ships, but that cut out some of the fun ships that arent under costed and over upgradeable.

I liked this idea for a tournament, pretty much you can run 2 TIE/D's plus a support shuttle if you are that way inclined. 4x TIE Bombers. There were the 4x Novice T 70's. I liked it because it got away from ace wing, and generics dont have pilot abilities, so it is skill vs skill, not some crazy list synergy between pilot abilities. PS 8 Royal Guards made things interesting, there wasnt the AB turreted Y, so maybe that would have been a great counter.

To be fair the HWK is a support ship anyway. Taking one on its own with nothing to support would always be a challenge. Only faced the Mist Hunter a couple of times so not sure about that one.

Hwk is a challenge, but with vectored thrusters or expert handling (if EPT enabled for uniques) could be a funny and unexpected dark horse.

G1A is fun to fly. But the title would help in a 1v1.

Apart from that, what are thoughts on Arc170 or TIE sf in such a setting?

A bit boring, that everone will turn up wuth Tie Def.

Well yeah, but that's FFG's fault for not being able to balance the game for ****.

There was that huge 'battle of Endor' as a side event at the UK Nats which featured all 30pt ships, with like 20 on each side of the table, and the Imperials crushed the entire rebel fleet for the loss of only one ship.

:(

Tie/sf could be interesting. I am in the UK and they don't arrive here for another 3 weeks so I haven't had a chance to play around with them yet.
