Scum &Villainy 39: Scum &Villainy Invitational Special

By Kelvan, in X-Wing

Kelvan, Blair, Alex and Sable discuss the S&V Invitational, a 6 team draft tournament. We’re then joined by Starslinger72 and Ryan Fleming (Rinehart) to get their take on the format and how they thought the draft went. For more details on the format, teams and each team’s lists, please check out KDubb’s excellent thread on the FFG forums.

So, apparently my attempt to mute my microphone failed. Sorry about that.

Latts Razzi (crew) is tough since she has so many triggering conditions and taking away stress has anti-synergy with Black Market Slicer Tools, which most Scum lists are going to want to be finding a way to squeeze in.

I'm not sure she's worth the 2 points and giving up your crew slot, particularly with so many other great Scum crew options out there.

That said, I think she might work OK on a HWK where your alternative defensive crew of Gonk struggles since you can't run away and you only have one shield to regen. It might be the upgrade you need to keep Torkil Mux alive for one more turn.

Good cast, thanks fellows, sorry I missed this one! Kelvan is threatening to jettison me out the airlock if I don't make the next one :-)

I thought it was Kelvan.

Ah....so that's why I wasn't invited on..........I got confused with the more important Ryan. Much sadness.

Glad you liked my "Three Token Monte" list. What'd I win? I'll accept the eternal glory of the X-wing Famous if no lesser prizes are available.

Some thoughts on the list after the discussion:

1. Why not IG88B? Well, because obviously that means to use his ability you need a cannon-armed, crew-bearing ship, which equals Firespray or YV-666 (the tractor beam on the Mist Hunter being somewhat uninspiring), which likely would have resulted in a two-ship list to maximize performance (because IggyB would then have to have a cannon). I found trying to exploit Manaroo's evade passing to be more interesting.

2. Why no cannon on the IG? Well, as you note, the IG can still be pretty effective if kept cheap, and the cannon is most valuable if it is either an HLC or you have IG88B (or both), and the concept didn't fit the more expensive cannon well, but see below.

3. Why Kad Solus, of all pilots? Two reasons. Most important, he can get a Focus (or two) no matter what he does, which supports the list concept. Second, with the highest PS on the list, he can still execute a red maneuver without impairing the overall function of the list.

4. What if I don't like the implications of Attanni Mindlink, like passing stress? You could substitute Crackshot for AM in some or all spots and most of what the list does still works, but you'll have to pick one of your two strikers to get the extra tokens and you leave Manaroo barren in the process.

5. Isn't the Fang a bit too squishy? Maybe -- hard to tell since it isn't released, but if you want to run the list now, there are a lot of ships that can substitute.

Here's a version of the list that preserves the intent of the token-passing shenanigans and gives IG88 a cannon if you prefer ... though I think the original version will be more effective in play:

===================

Three Token Monte 2

===================

100 points

Manaroo (34)

JumpMaster 5000 (27), Attanni Mindlink (1), IG-88D (1), Unhinged Astromech (1), Engine Upgrade (4)

IG88-C (49)

Aggressor (36), Attanni Mindlink (1), Fire-Control System (2), Heavy Laser Cannon (7), Inertial Dampeners (1), IG-2000 (0), Autothrusters (2)

Kaa’to Leeachos (17)

Z-95 Headhunter (15), Black Market Slicer Tools (1), Attanni Mindlink (1)

Execution sequence changes slightly with this version. Manaroo moves first and boosts, picking up the Evade. Kaato then moves and can TL, BMST, or Focus (if the latter, pass the Focus to everyone). IggyC then moves, and Focuses if Kaato did not; otherwise TL or Boost. At the start of Combat Manaroo passes her Focus and Evade tokens, picks up a Focus, then Kaato may steal a Focus or Evade (you can do Kaato then Manaroo but it's not as effective). If IggyC decides to dump the dampeners, as he is last his stress has minimal effect on the list's function (much like Kad in the original version).

@sozin

I tried to send you a PM, but I think your message box might be full. Fantastic job on that spreadsheet for the S&V Invitational! Do you happen to have a blank copy of it that I would be able to use for a local league?
