Triple Bees for Casual/League Play

By swammeyjoe, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I like the B-Wing. I'm aware it's not considered tourney worthy, but I don't play tourneys. Most of my games are a weekly league. You get a mixture of people trying out all sorts of lists, and while I'm sure it'll get more meta focused as Regionals nears, from what I can tell it isn't right now. I also don't tend to care if I win or lose as long as the game itself is fun. So with that context, how does this list sound. Are there things that will utterly destroy it? What is it good at? I've played a few games on the X-Wing Benchmark but that AI is not exactly a challenge.

  • Ten Numb (38) - Fire Control System, "Mangler" Cannon, Veteran Instincts
  • Blue Squadron Pilot (31) - Fire Control System, Ion Cannon, B-Wing E/2, Recon Specialist
  • Blue Squadron Pilot (31) - Fire Control System, Ion Cannon, B-Wing E/2, Recon Specialist

FCS on everybody so there are target locks aplenty. Rec Spec lets the Blues have a focus for both attack and defense. The main "trick" of the list would be using Ten Numb and the Mangler Cannon to guarantee 1 damage as long as I roll at least 1 hit (which the target lock can help with). The Ion Cannons I just tossed on figuring they could help set up better shots. Would dropping them and adding Engine Upgrade to Ten (to turn him into a semi-arc dodger - Boost and BR at PS 10 is not terrible, even with his dial) be worth it?

Seems to me that the Ion Cannon makes more sense on Ten Numb. if the 'trick' is to push through 1 damage at a minimum, you may as well do 1 damage and dish out an ion token. Further, you'll want to consider running Calculation on Ten (or Marksmanship, if you can spare the points) to max your chances at forcing 1 damage through.

Or you can really play silly buggers like this:

Maximum Effort: 99 points
Keyan Farlander (39)
B-Wing (29), Ion Torpedoes (5), Extra Munitions (2), Push the Limit (3), Guidance Chips (0)
Ten Numb (33)
B-Wing (31), Tractor beam (1), Calculation (1)
Blue Squadron Pilot (27)
B-Wing (22), Flechette Cannon (2), B-Wing/E2 (1), Tactician (2)
Fly in formation, then use Ten to push through a crit and tractor one target. You can boost him into range 2 for Blue's Tactician to work, park him on an asteroid to drop his shot, or move him closer to a ship you want the ion torpedoes to 'splash' onto – he loses an agility regardless. After that, bludgeon your opponent to death with two other B-Wings.

Advanced sensors is pretty much the best thing ever on B-wings.

I call this "Tres Reyes":

  • Ten Numb (39) B-Wing (31), Advanced Sensors (3), “Mangler” Cannon (4), Veteran Instincts (1)
  • Keyan Farlander (35) B-Wing (29), Advanced Sensors (3), Push the Limit (3)
  • Dagger Squadron Pilot (26) B-Wing (24), Fire-Control System (2)

Keyan's maneuverability with this build is awesome, he doesnt need any upgrade more.

Ten with PS10 is an Ace Hunter, you force a crit in your attack, and due to PS10 and AS you can place where you want to hit.

Dagger is the meat.

Enjoy it :P
