Roark is your friend

By JimbonX, in X-Wing

Yep that's that. Not really. Roark is probably the only useful rebelpilot among HWKs. Kyle can transfer focus and Jan adds 1 dice but needs to take 1 stresstoken for that - green maneuvers are not that great on HWK.

Roark gives PS 12. Tha means that 1 ship will always shoot first. That's awesome. In 100p match it can be hard to use Roark in any list. Latest was Roark, Poe, Z-95 and Y-Wing with TLT and stressbot.

I came 3rd place in a small tournament, by having a T-70 veteran with swarm tactics, blue squadron, Gold Squadron with dorsal turret and stressbot and Roark with dorsal turret. Two ships that always attacks first. Roark gives out PS 12 on T-70. Then T-70 copy pasted it on Y-Wing or B-Wing.

In epic I often use Roark and swarm tactics. Havin 4-5 ships with PS12 is amazing.

Roark can be great. I used him at Gencon back in 2013 during W4 to great success. Given that was back in the dark days, the days of the empire (and Whisper). My team had a Blackmoon w/ R3-A2 + FCS (people still call me crazy for running a blackmoon) and a Dagger w/ HLC, and Roark w/ ICT (plus a blocking Z95). Roark was very important to the list - allowing me to spread my arcs out between the E and B to ensure one of them would have a shot on the Phantom, allow the Phantom to do her stuff, and then swarm one of them to 12. If it was the B, Whisper would eat a 4 dice HLC shot. If it was the Blackmoon, she would have to deal with the Stressbot and lose the ability to cloak (and subsequently would die the next turn). I ended up in 7th after 7 rounds of swiss.

But these days high PS activation is just an important skill. I almost wish there was a Roark crew that would be "during activation, treat this pilot's skill level as 12" to go along with his ship ability. It would be a similar way that they handled Dash and Kyle (though Jan's, Han's and Luke's crew abilities are rather different from their pilot abilities).

Back when interceptors where nigh invincible and all the rage, I had the chance to watch a guy take Roark, and 3 green squad a-wings with swarm tactics and PTL. Roark would throw the ps12 to the farthest a-wing, and then chain it to each other a-wing for 4 ships firing at Ps12.

It was truly a thing to behold. Absolutely wrecked the interceptors.

Roark is only useful in

1. getting Dash to murder Whipster

2. in Epic. missile Corvett with PS12, Han crew and Norra support is not hilarious, it's brutal.

Interceptors, or Phantoms? I hate to be nitpicky, but I have trouble comprehending why Interceptors care about A-wings shooting first. ;)

I've seen a store champs won by Jake & Tycho both running PTL, VI, Autothrusters and Proton Rockets... backed up by Jan Ors. Because the ability to move last then shove 6 dice (and very nearly guaranteed 5-6 hits) down enemy aces throats is a little bit hilarious.

And Poe, Jake and Kyle was a staple for a while, even if it never quite made it to the big leagues - too easy/obvious to kill the HWK, as usual.

Roark is always in my Rebel Epic list. Always.

Have had middle success on 100 pt lists but always shooting first is a really nice attribute.

Because even soontir can't stand up to 3 a-wings firing first, especially if any of them are at range one.

Back in the dark days of Whisper, I used Roark with Rex spec and blaster turret, Jan with blaster turret and Rec spec and a Wild Space Fringer w/HLC. (Possibly more, can't remember) point is, I could throw 5 dice at whisper in arc, or 4 dice out of arc with one of my three turrets. That amount of turret coming at PS 12 burned whisper every time.

He really, really can/ He has 4 dice, they have a maximum of 3, and they probably only have a single modification. Soontir can laugh off three 2-dice shots trivially unless they have crack. 3 Prockets are tougher, sure, but he will ever end up in range 1 of an A-wing with Prockets if he's being flown remotely sensibly.

had great success with this list:

Miranda Doni (29)
Twin Laser Turret (6)

Prototype Pilot (17)
Chardaan Refit (-2)

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)
Advanced Sensors (3)

Roark Garnet (19)
Twin Laser Turret (6)

Total: 100

Realy, Roark is heart of this list.

In a friendly game vs 3 Imperial Aces, I had Roark, Cracken, Blount and a Tala. Cracken with cluster missiles and Swarm Tactics, Blount with Assault Missiles and swarm. My opponent wasn't familiar with the Rebels and was shocked when the 3 Zs shot first, Cracken gave two actions and Blount killed a stealth device. It's a fun list but, as they say, a one trick pony. But what a trick!

My real life evidence trumps your shoulds and shouldn'ts. You have no idea how many times I got to see soontir eat it from a single tie fighter this year.

i love Jan Ors ability in her HWK but its just so expensive. Roark is the only one that gets used because hes the only one thats priced fairly :P

I feel a bit stupid to ask (but this seems awesome), but how do you then "chain it" so that 4 ships fire at PS 12?

Swarm Tactics.

Swarm Tactics stacks. They even faq'd it to say it was intended to do that.
