Cracken: the neglected stepchild of the rebellion

By Parkdaddy, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

So going through the most recent builds on this forum, I feel like Cracken has been completely neglected. I completely and entirely blame the Interdictor and Konstantine. So this fleet incorporates a lot of veteran captains to generate extra nav tokens in order to counter their speed slowing effects and give Cracken a fighting chance against the interdictors. I feel as though token generation and transfer (Tantive, comms net, etc) are the way to keep Cracken's fleet Cracking on. Thoughts, comments, questions, indiscriminately pointing out inefficiencies and the like are all requested. And because the question always arises, I put engine techs on Dodonna's Pride because that's what I do.

I haven't cracked the Cracken yet either.

I wouldn't put Salvation in a Cracken list, that ship should only go speeds 1-2. I also think this isn't a good moment to be playing CR90 B, I'd rather just play CR90 A's and try not to trigger Konstantine as much as possible.

Speed 3 salvation?

How is the flotilla going to sustain speed 3 and activate squads?

Why vet captains on the two ships that go speed 4 anyway, so can keep cracken activated just by going overspeed

Yavaaris would actually probably be the only Neb I'd run with the intent of using Cracken's ability. Nebs are just too spindly otherwise.

That said, I was thinking of using Salvation to fix the enemy. So no, he wouldn't be going fast, but it would be intentional—until a surprise Nav command with Raymus jumps him up to speed 3 and out of the enemy's main arc.

The reason I'm including a ship that won't really benefit (but still has the option to) is because swarms are hard to control at high speeds. In the Army, we'd say it's all METT-TC dependent. Is it an inefficienc, yes. Does mon Mothma works better with salvation, yes, but I still think it's an option worth exploring, and it's cost fits to the other components of the list.

Besides for a TRC90, what would you suggest replacing it with? I don't want just another version of the TRC90 swarm. I don't think the developers said "hey, let's give them another excuse to run TRC90 swarms" as though they weren't already a viable option. Would it work? Yeah, but that's old news and I'm trying to experiment.

I feel like Cracken doesn't work well with fighter heavy lists, unless you're running a transport swarm and Yavaaris. Maybe that'll be my next stab at him.

Good point. The flagship will probably stay out of dodge for the most part anyways. Though I chose vet captain for DP so that I can take a CF dial and a Nav Token at an opportune moment. CF with DP is not to be underestimated.

As far as the transport...yeah that's a kink. I really want it to have Toryn, but I think a veteran captain would help with maintaining speed and functionality. Though, it really only needs to activate them once to get the alpha strike. After that, the fighters should be fine on their own. Alternately, I originally had 2 YT2400s and an X with Jan. That reduces the need for commands, but it also reduces the bid.
